You looked scared to slap it, like it might strike back. A shorter player might put their eye out with that upper horn! Thanks for doing this, honestly this was a lot of fun.
I threw in 20 bucks (or whatever it was) to try and win it in a raffle on there. Whomever won it, didn’t want it. Then it swapped hands until it found a final resting place.
Just wow! There it is in all it's mystifying glory. What a great opportunity you have been given to be able to not only touch the infamous MOTHMAN, but to demo and review it. I like many others of the Low end community in the know, bow to you sir :) rtslinger from Talk Bass
It's bassically a whole tree! An angry tree, ready to lash out at those that cut it down. Out of pure diabolical arboreal energy, it has crafted itself into this form of low frequency madness. A thing of nightmares, it is far too powerful to be left alive, yet no mortal man has the power to stop it.
As someone who has built guitars and basses, with names on them other than my own, for years, often built to the designs of the client, sometimes the design is outside of our comfort zone. Aside from aesthetic preferences, and inconveniences, let's say, the only real design issue that I see as a flaw in the design is the headstock does not allow for straight string pulls from the nut to the tuning machine post following the headstock angle. I like a lot of aggressive, "pointy," shapes, but this design is a little much for my tastes. It does sound pretty good
Thanks Metalbass! I agree, this was definitely designed with looks in mind first. Others have commented on the where the tuners sit and the weird angles hahaha
That was seriously a fun video. I think you enjoyed it too. That 15lb hug is undeniable. The bottom end on that is ridiculous. That is a wide neck. You should try a 7 string. Great video. It made me laugh.
I still have my GT7 from 2000. I love the clean growl that it has. 3 years ago I took it to Conklin world headquarters and had them modify it with a 4 band equalizer, ultralight tuners, new setup, and a new preamp. Now it's just a little meaner.
I'm the low end lobster and for today I have lucifer's bass forged in the 8th circle of hell made from trees grown on the corpses of the fallen and hardware forged by Satan himself....heres some funk with a pick!

Comment to Lobster. I have an old Carvin and the PCB that runs the bass is dead. Because Carvin is gone, I was looking for a good preamp option for a 4 hole construction. Hoping for a push/pull for active/passive, and just a two band or a three band if I can find it. It’s 9V powered. Any thoughts on what I could use? You have a lot of experience shopping for preamps.
The Mothman commeth! So glad the Talkbass network paid off in getting this to you. It sounds better than expected but not so much the slap tone. Was the driver the famous lingerie lady from the original pictures?
@@noahbecker1082 it's exactly the reason why I DIDN'T like it. I hate hate HATE Warwick basses with a burning passion and while this thing doesn't sound as bad as all the Warwicks I've tried and almost all I've heard, the Thumb-ish vibe puts me off.

@@noahbecker1082 I've tried numerous Warwicks - they all sounded dead as a doornail. I borrowed a Thumb BO 5 from my friend once - I needed a bass for a rehearsal and my cheap Yamaha BBG5S I had back then was at a luthier's shop for a nut replacement. I plugged the Thumb in - same settings on the amp as with the Yamaha, same room, same band - and it was GONE. Once others started playing, the bass got lost in the mix completely. I tried fiddling with the onboard preamp, amp settings etc, tried to turn the volume up - nothing helped, it just got muddy. Before you ask - yes, it had a fresh battery.
