- "Xtraordinary Girls" (XG) have landed in the studio to chat with Brooke Reese about becoming Apple Music's latest Up Next artist.
Juria, Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Cocona, Maya, and Harvey join forces to delve into their experience training for six years before finally forming the group they are today. The group opens up about their music, particularly the process of creating their summer "New Dance," and its accompanying music video. The group also shares insight their upcoming mini album, which will contain 6 tracks, as well as their experience performing at Head in the Clouds and their aspirations for future live performances.

Honestly so proud of Maya, she’s the second youngest in the group yet has taken on the role of a de facto mouthpiece for them and she’s honestly representing them so much better than most of would’ve been able to at 18 years old

The way she beamed with excitement (in one of the Xtra Xtra episodes) and had so many intelligent questions to ask Sienna Lalau (their main choreographer) over Zoom at just age 15.. while the rest of the girls looked like (cute) deers in headlights lol She is wise beyond her years and u can tell she has really high EQ & IQ by the way she speaks

@@jk2000jk shes just talking. Shes been speaking english for a long time. It is impressive how fluent she is though. Kpop fans just tend to be amazed and blow out of proportion average or simple things because they see their idols as amazing. Maya isnt a child anymore .

Being the only fluent English speaker in XG must not be that easy, but I’m proud of Maya for being able to speak for the group so simply yet so eloquently! I’ve come across idol interviews and when they’re asked to talk about their music, their answers can sometimes sound generic or scripted (probably because their agencies feed them specific answers already) but I like that Maya just talked so freely hand casually here.

Hinata has such a cute/pretty/beautiful face that - to me at least - she looks lovely all the time.
She doesn't get many lines, but the few that she DOES sing, she pulls it off flawlessly.

My 5 year old daughter is absolutely in love with XG. Cocona popped up on my RUclips, and I was blown away. So I did a deep dive into her and found out about XG. My daughter loves Cocona, Harvey, Hinata, and Juria. This has been a great way for me to teach her about different cultures. Over the past several months we have to go to Japanese and Chinese restaurants so she can try new food! Lately, it has been Thai food. These ladies will make a massive imprint on the music world. I'm taking my daughter to their concert in New Year later this year as a surprise.

AVEX CEO Katsumi Kuroiwa who partnered with Simon Jakop
XG producer is Simon Jakop( he is half Japanese and half Korean )
Avex’s CEO, Katsumi Kuroiwa and Simon was chosen from the music industry leaders of the world for inclusion in the list for the first time.
Kuroiwa said: We launched XGALX, a global artist project behind artists like XG, six years ago, in 2017
Kuroiwa and Simon said: The strong impression I got through our activities with them was that they were keeping a close eye on the Japanese and global markets. Leveraging this experience, we launched the XGALX project with the aim of creating global hits. Initially, we were aiming for a 2020 debut, but the COVID pandemic but a halt to any major moves, so the debut ended up being in 2022. We built up even more knowledge in the intervening time, so in the end it turned out for the best.
We have a great respect for K-pop, but what really sets XG apart is their originality and freshness. We built the group together with our partners around the world, taking the best elements from Korea, Japan and the US. The potential of the members, the music production, the video, and the fashion all came together, overlapping and giving birth to XG. We didn’t want to make them a J-pop or K-pop group, but instead create an all-new genre, X-Pop.

Can we take a second to do some simple math? If they were training for 5-6 years, then these ladies were starting this whole thing when they were 12-17 year old girls. And it seems they haven’t stopped. They deserve the success, it must feel so unreal with all this payoff! Keep climbing, girls!
Yeah, in their documentary Cocona and Maya were both 11 when they joined as trainees and I think there was another trainee that was like 10.
The Xtra Xtra documentary on their RUclips channel show their audition intros with their ages (11-15).

@dangzitspro they are fairly fluent and understand the language but not confident with it in such setups. Besides, they can learn and speak English but they don't have to. That's why interpreters and subtitles exist.
@@ericmwangi9130 there might be a translator but certain messages may not be communicated effectively and certain expressions might not be conveyed due to language barrier. Also, there would not be a sense of closeness between the 2 parties if there is always a translator there.
@dangzitspro then I guess this is high time anyone who wants to directly understand them learnt Japanese.
@@ericmwangi9130 of course there are many people who put in the time and effort to be fluent in Japanese. But as I’ve mentioned, you can see that they’re trying hard to expand into the global market. It only makes sense for them to master English since it is the lingua franca of the world.
Language plays a huge part in breaking into any market in the world. Imagine wanting to break into kpop but not speaking Korean. Speaking a language that is familiar will make the audience feel closer to them. Name me another internationally famous and successful artistes/group that doesn’t know how to speak English.

I know that Jurin is the leader of XG, but I feel that Maya is more of a Global Ambassador of the group bec of her fluent English skills! To me personally, all seven of the girls are GPop ambassadors, bec they are so brilliant, flawless and perfect all-rounders 🤩😍❤️

I like it better too! That way they can express themselves more vibrantly. You can tell by their answers in Japanese they are very passionate in what they are creating.

XG are a force of nature. Watch the XG documentaries to understand why. The obstacles and hardships their team have endured are kind of mind-boggling. How the girls survived their training is beyond me, but that is the system in JP/Kor.. New Dance is such a fun track :-) They deserve success and they come from another galaxy!

i know we love talking about MAya being our global ambassador whenever she looks at each girl she is conveying about, but the girls themselve handled the questions very well to and gave amazing answers. What makes them extra special is the connection they have for each other and how they can connect with their fans worldwide by singing english songs. It's unconventional. Datz wazzup!!!
I feel like XG's sound besides the whole technical side of it which is that it sounds fresh, innovative, R&b, techno, pop and all that. I think XG's sound is warm, welcoming and is a girl's girl kind of sound. Of course, it's not just for the girls - it's for everybody to enjoy. But it's in a way where you get a sense of "you're welcome here. in any way you would like to represent/present yourself". It's that supportive music from a bunch of girls that clearly exudes confidence but most importantly, individuality, acceptance and sisterhood. I think that is what separates them from a bunch of groups, up and coming or not. They don't look high and mighty. They look like a bunch of girl you would want to just hangout with and form this sisterhood with. They look humble and accepting and it resonates with the fans. That's why in a short amount of time, they have build this fanbase that is diverse and exudes that supportive aura.

@@chrislambert9903 I do dislike how many people within the kpop fandom who obviously are just haters compare them to other newer groups and how others have grown faster then them which I find very silly. What makes XG special is their not relying on others or anything besides their own label and team to take them far, and so far we are seeing such humble beginnings and growth that is actually earned and through hard work and dedication. That’s why I admire this group so much - they give underdog vibes

@@dangzitspro English isn't easy to learn, especially for Asians. It's a lot easier for people in other regions. Some Europeans, for instance, can learn English in a matter of months. What I know about XG is that while most members aren't fluent English speakers, they all can understand English without any difficulties.
@@GoodOldCinema Not true. That’s just an excuse for not putting in the effort to master something. You can see countries like the Philippines, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore etc are all very fluent in English. Even ITZY is more fluent than them in English and they’re all Korean. Only Lia came from abroad but all of them are almost fluent in English. That’s because they put in the effort to learn the language.
@@dangzitspro Lia went to international school. That's how she learned English. She also lived in Canada for a short time.
Out of the remaining members, only Ryujin is close to being fluent. The English level of Yuna, Yeji and Chaeryeong isn't much better than the XG members.
Your assumption is that XG members, Maya aside, don't speak English at all. Look it up and you'll find interviews of them speaking basic English.
If K-Pop idols are anything to go by, learning English clearly isn't' easy for Korean or Japanese people.
@@GoodOldCinema it isn’t easy but it is not impossible. With hardwork and proper education, they can be as fluent in English like Ryujin, BTS RM, Babymonster Ahyeon etc. Being Korean or Japanese isn’t an excuse for not putting in hardwork to learn.

You know, some people mistakenly think that because they only sing in English, it means that they all are fluent in English, but this is somewhat wrong... as one of the youngest members of the group, Maya, she can easily and very skilfully speak English, Harvey also can, because she is biracial, but maybe because of her shyness and maybe because she came back to Japan since she was a child, she doesn't have that much command as Maya... But whatever these girls are, they all amazing and I'm the biggest fan of them! and thank for Apple Music. Because of this fun interview!
