I think with it only releasing two weeks ago that the dev's have more info and explaining the want to add into the game. But it seems they've got to do it at a top tier level, as a conversation between the two characters with a mission objective too.
In this kind of games you have to pay attention to things, part of the fun is finding out mechanics for yourself, as an example, I had a plant based resource farm even before I had titanium and uranium, I even thought the game was broken after seeing of how OP it was at that level, not only because of the resources you farm from plants but also because of the energy you get from the insane amount of leafs you end up with.
@@StRoRo I figured that out before the last wave the issue was i had about 300 towers and 100 mine / drones, and that it was all powered by gas powerplants!! i had to use one fusion but i left it unpluged from the rest of my base so the last mission my base was drawing about 30k i still had 10k worth of backup and my gas powerplants won't even running. my base was half the map. and i had like 190k worth of storage mostly level 1 i got around to upgrade some of them but it wasn't worth the materal to upgrade it
Thank you for putting this together. I was in search of getting started on cultivating for the two resources not covered by tutorials and came away from your video with a much better understanding of how it all works. Fun Fact, I didn't even know you could select what plants to spawn in for the cultivator.
Awesome true gem guide!!! And by the way, can you add which rare resource would be produced before the plant name of your recommendation in the description? [EDIT] Nevermind, I just did it myself. * Cobalt | Vitreus Pura Corulus (big blue-ish black crystals) * Titanium | Fungus Spiralis Cinerus (A dark mushroom with multiple levels) * Uranium | Vitreus Pura Viridis (big green crystals) | Vitreus Implexus Viridis (?) (for alternative) * Palladium | Bratus Futilis Flavus (Weird looking plants. Check the video at 10:15) | Fungus (?) (for alternative) * Rhodonite | Vitreus Pura Rubidus (big red crystals) * Ferdonite | Vitreus Implexus Corulus (trees that grow cyan crystals out of them) * Tanzanite | Fungus Regula Rosea (The bright mushrooms) * Hazenite | Vitreus Implexus Flavus (trees that grow yellow crystals out of them)
I'm fairly sure you cannot farm the exotic minerals before you get the relevant research done. This might only be for campaign, but I did notice my plants did not give any of the fancy stuff, before i finished the research. Bonus info: hovering over, or selecting the harvesters, shows how much they yield.
This is 100% true. I forgot to mention it since I already had everything researched when I built this, but I did have an issue where one of my plants wasn't producing any titanium until I researched it
wow, really nice video, thank you so much for the information, gonna restart the game and do this for every resource on every biome i go, where i need to setup a HQ. i can see it now, its gonna be like im playing on sandbox mode, i think, with no worry about resources ever, haha.
Has this been proved? Because I built one near my cultivator and left it working for a while with the Bioscanner on (to make sure I would know when a scannable plant/crystal would spawn) and nothing changed.
So great guide. I have only just started playing this so very late to the game. Did the game get modded after this as i can not grow certain items it says wrong biome?
Heyho. Just as a tip, IF you set this system up like Glen here. Dont put the Harvesting Stations directly next to the Cultivator, but rather on the paved floortiles around it. Otherwise you take away valuable farming space. And the Harvesters can reach everything if you put them at like 12, 4 & 8 o´clock. :) Just a little up in efficiency ;)
I haven't seen any experiments about this. It depends on the game's code, that if the cultivator's efficiency depends on the surrounding available space. My guess is not, tho. This guess assumes that the cultivator will actively search for an available tile to plant, and will idle only if no such available.
there are plants that give 4 resources in the game (2 of them are octopus giant thingies that give titanium + ferdinite/rodenite) the other one is a fungus spiralis that gives cobalt and biomass + iron and carbonium , tanzenite and hazenite thaugh i have yet to find the 4 resource plant for and i use the same crystal as in the vid for hazenite but different stuff for tanzenite (the crystal tree in the start area gives good enough amounts for me) , for paladium i use a big orange mushroom that seems to grow at an absurd rate for some reason (it is yellow but has the same picture as the plant on the top row leftmost one he has when he checks his plants) do remember though that each plant gives different Ratios of resources even if they give the same type of resources
What worked for me was putting cultivators and harvesters right next to each other on either side of a pipeline. 2 Harvesters adjacent 1 cultivator across from another cultivator and 2 harvesters separated by a pipeline, you can repeat this pattern and save a lot of space.
I dont know if its a mod I have installed or just partof the game but if you put a research tower in close to the farms it will automatically gain more points for familiarity
Nice, I'm struggling with setting up the farms in the cobalt gathering section that I have established a base on. Even on easy, attacks are so frequent I cannot catch a break to set up strong enough defenses and power to allow me the luxury of farming. Do I have to wait till level 3 in weapons and equipment before establishing farms?
I think you need to unlock the rare resources before you can get them. I never got Uranium from the radioactive crystals before doing the mission that unlocks it
If anyone watching this is still unable to get ur harvesters to work. U may be using mods that use old files. The entry in drone_collector would be set to collect only "flora" and should actually be set to "" so that drones get out and start collecting crystals as well. Better yet would be to replace the file with the newer one and then remodify what u want
I built a farm and selected a plant that creates titanium and it looks like it's working but the number of titanium isn't increasing. Is that a bug? I also have lots of problems water filtering plants, sometimes they work, sometimes not.
the only thing i would add is that certain plants can only be cultivated in certain biomes i have on occasion set up liquid compressors in the biomes with lots of mud and then set up liquid decompressors in the desert biomes to cultivate certain plants but beware this is power INTENSIVE
i have a familiarity level of 12 for the red crystal but i cant select in my cultivator located in my headquarters it says " unavailable in this biome"
They patched it not too long ago so you couldn't grow anything everywhere. If you can't farm certain resources, you'll have to start building farms in other biomes.
Man. Even the tutorial levels don't really explain this. I was wondering why one of my "farms" just wasn't doing anything. It was only providing plant matter, but nothing else. NEver realized I had to select the plant type.
if you want to increase the familiarity you can use the farms to increase your levels...since some of the plants that get planted are able to be scanned......annnddd you say this at the end of the video...made the comment before watching the end lol
First time watching your videos. You have a bit of echo on your mic. My personal opinion of course. Like it is reverbing off of a close wall or something. Good video though
OMG! I knew the cultivators could grow other resources, I just never knew how. I've been mining out all my resource nodes and sitting on maps waiting for nodes to respawn... #FacePalm
Sidenote: The game becomes trivial and boring when you have unlimited resources. though i guess the campaign is pretty easy anyway. Survival is super fun and challenging though.
After dozens of hours playing this, I only worked this out yesterday. There's quite a lot in this game which is not explained at all.

You can also build a research station next to your cultivator/harvester setup, to auto farm familiarity.
Really? That's pretty awesome! I thought that building was purely for the acidic yeast quest

I cannot find any Bratus Futilis in the Acid Plains.
Will planting plants drop or improve your gene overtime? Or it wont and you have to go to the wild?
Is the output of farms dependent on the familiarity level?
How do u do this on Playstation? Like the selecting the plant you want?

Dude that was awesome yo best tutorial so far it's unfortunate the devs left it up to the gaming community to explain this stuff
For right now they have. I'm sure they're looking to add more dialog, quests and missions into the game to explain these buildings.
With a small team this kinda works out this way. Though on the other hand I do kinda enough the trail by fire.
I like it when not everything is spoon fed.
The best place for cultivators are first two acid maps.
Both have ridiculous amount of sludge pools and no attacks.
Holy shit thank you so much i thought my game was just glitched
Oh so you can attack the plants to harvest them? Like cutting them down? That's what I've been doing and thought I f'd up. Or build harvesters

How can i kill the big flyes? they are really annoying and i cant reach them, need fire for that?
Wow thanks, The game never explains this
How to plant Uranium | Vitreus Pura Viridis, it says unavaible for this biome.
how come he can plant them in that biome but for some reason my game wont let me

does "farming" cultivators ... work in survival? all I can do is grass and I've been bioscanning the crap out of everything
