From the various comments, it seems like people who have a lancer love it, and the ones who talk crap about are mostly those who don't it, good to know.

Given the good size, amazing reliability, AWD and low price = home run. I'm not in the market for a car right now but I hope they still make it when I'm ready to buy.

An owners review: I got the 2014 Lancer Anniversary Edition with manual transmission, blue tooth, sun roof, etc minus the rocker fosgate system, and for less than that price he mentioned. If you are thinking between manual and CVT, TAKE THE MANUAL. The difference is unbelievable between my friend's CVT and my manual. Its like a different car altogether. Its great that they bothered to engineer a CVT so early but its not that great a system yet.The manual corners brilliantly, brake pedal feel with the disc brakes is brilliant and its a lot more fun than any car at this level could give you. And the sound and feel is there, but that is why I bought the car. I am a fan of motoring, not just getting from point A to point B and right from the start the way this car communicates with you through the steering feel and pedal feel and sounds makes it an experience worth every dollar of the price. They revised the interior too and its a bit better but I dont care too much as Im too busy enjoying the drive and begging for another corner. It could definitely use a 6th gear though for the highway but its not that bad as the reviews seem to make it seem.

I don't have the opportunity to see and test drive all new cars that are on the market but have owned and driven my fair share of cars, I now have a 2010 Lancer GTS and could not be happier. Plastic on the interior, yes, which entry level car doesn't, My 2004 Maxima had more, maybe not the hard plastic but it sure looked like it. Ride harshness, its not a bus. I like to be able to feel the road. Drives like a tractor, might be out of his league on that one cuz my Lancer handles awesome. It holds the road as good as my old Prelude and just begs for more corners. Wish i would have held out for the all wheel drive. I think these guys drive so many cars that they get confused with the luxury cars and forget that not all cars have 5 star safety rating like my Lancer. Safety is not as important as plastic i guess.

All they have to do is make a good, new Lancer Evo, Eclipse, and a mid-size four-door car to go against Camry, Optima, etc. They'd be saved!

I don't think Mitsubishi has a big problem at all! Their cars are excellent, reliable and powerful enough. I don't get why people expect a Lancer to be an Evolution: there's a big difference in purpose. For everyday use (I live in Amman, Jordan) I use a Lancer, and I have used SAABs, Toyotas, Hondas, Kias, Hyundais, Fords, Peugeots and more, and they are all good: but the Mitsubishi beats all at reliability.

Phantom . It's an opinion; he's entitled to it. However, I would not trade a Lancer (Lancer EX in the Middle East) for his recommendations. I just wish we had the 2.0 and 2.4 here. I leased a Lancer 2.0 from Amman to Aqaba and it got me to/back with about 6.8L/100km (32 mpg-us) which was not too bad considering several 'security' checkpoints. My 1.5 Lancer EX did it with about 6.4/100km (35 mpg-us). I estimate I could have done about 10-15% better without those checkpoints; but to be fair, it was mainly on the way back.

@@NoLastNameX even in 2015, Mazda3, Kia Forte, VW Jetta even were better options than the Lancer for $22k. The Lancer was a “premium car” sold in the 3rd world, it barely passed as a basic car for the US market. Underpowered, spartan cabin and not great fuel economy. The 2015 models of the cars I listed above did all of that way better.

Lancer are great, especially for tuning up, technology may not be good in the normal lancer se and de but you can always get after market. If your going to get a lancer I would recommend Ralliart or Evo if u dont mind spending some extra on gas, but even a normal lancer is great. Very easy to customize and look cool.

Mitsubishi really needs to update this car. I loved it in 2008, now it's a dinosaur. My brother has a 2010 GTS version, and my parents have a 2012 Focus. Being just 2 years apart, I'm shocked at how much better the Focus is. Still, the Lancer has beautiful masculine lines that I think still win some customers over.

I've got a 2010 Lancer Sportback GTS in red. Don't drive it much - just 36.5K miles on it and its always garaged. Basically looks new inside and out. I agree about the rather crude powertrain and the coarse, noisy ride. 18" low profile tires and no sound insulation with do that. Still, its a very nice looking hatchback. 11 model years old and it still looks current. Had it in a car stereo place for a few days last fall and the owner said it got a lot of attention. Almost everyone who came in asked what it was. So yeah, I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase.

i love mitsu with all my heart, my family has gone through 7 of them, all are very reliable, but i do agree that they're no longer the powerhouse that they were in 90s - early 2000s, they really need to step up, better economy numbers, better interior designs, more options (where are my 3000gt, eclipse in AWD, montero, galante, diamante, ETC...), faster remodels (takes 7 years to create a new model, 7 WTF!) and over all just more competitive. this new generation will really determine what they become

I own a 2012 lancer DE 2.0 liter manual, it's a very good car. I heard the CVT gets bad in time so I got the manual one. It's really good, spacious, comfortable, good trunk size and feels pretty fast. The interior is just terrible, cheap plastic everywhere, and just sucks, road noise is awful, mine is pretty comfortable in terms of suspension, the paint is just horrible in terms of quality and thinness, you will have a lot of scratches in your car no matter what. Apart from those bad facts about the lancer I think it's a great car, I enjoy it, it's a very good looking car with the body kit, good price and it will last, everything works and at the end of the day that's what most people want

Jesus Manuel the CVT is pretty good also I don't know from where and why it has got that bad reputation.i have got one that has a CVT transmission and it does perform very well and has the most smooth riding of its competitors due to its continuously and unlimited shifting ...
That comes from my experiences of its driving...i think Mitsubishi is oppressed in US and North America.for instance in Egypt the most reliable and affordable car is Mitsubishi and its reputation is very good we consider it vehicle without any malfunctions for long years if you are looking for the longevity and durability ...but in other side it lake of the refinement and luxury.

mohamed yehia the CVT over time becomes sluggish and not as responsive. Most people's tend to have this issue at 80,000 miles. I personally think they lost their way

I know that the quality of this car is good though from talking with other owners which is why I test drove it. I tested this and 6 other models and finally purchased the 2013 Dodge Dart Rallye which really excited me. All modern ergonomics, great fuel mileage (41 Hwy 31 City), a little lag on the 2.0 liter engine but still good enough for me. Go Dodge!

European cars are like beautiful prostitutes, they look nice but they make your life miserable if you don't take care of them with high maintenance cost. The only thing that will keep you in the relationship is that others who are unaware will envy you for what they perceive from outside. If you are not deluded by such and envy from others you will look at the woman you are with objectively and realize that she is what she is and she is the one who is making you miserable.

I think Mitubishi looks really cheap now. When I first looked into the Lancer it was when they changed the design in 2008. They haven't changed it much and the interior is the same since 2008. I would suggest if you need a car, don't get a new one just get an old one. The price for this Mitsubishi is not worth it for the value. You're buying it's design (that's downplayed from the evo), and everything else is not worth it.

AWD doesn't always help. And if you get the AWD your looking around 25k and at that point you can get a midsized car for that money with AWD. Having good tires is almost as good and for the extra cost its really not worth it for most people and their budgets.

This review isn't entirely true. Yes the SE is only available with a cvt, but you don't have to downgrade to an ES to get a manual. A manual is also available on the gt which is a little cheaper as well same 2.4L, lighter, better mpg and the sport suspension.

      thats totally true
      Mitsubishi are quality made vehicles
They outclass Honda, Nissan, and Mazda, which offer older and mechanically inferior cars for the price.

I just don't understand Mitsubishi. Why bother selling cars if you aren't going to try. It's 2013 and very other "bargain" brand makes decent cars.
