I cannot even think for a nanosecond this has any potential. I would buy every single home game start if they did sign him though. Wow, I'm already thinking about it, curse you for getting my hopes up.
Thank you Mr Jolan Olivenado, now I know everything I need to about this Roki Sasaki fella. Gotta love the channel big man, one I immediately click on!
For the record his 19 K perfect game is a huge candidate for best game ever pitched, that was literally an unreal performance, genuinely an absurd game to watch
Another thing to note for Roki going to SD is this: his father’s favorite player was Hideo Nomo. Nomo pitched for the Dodgers back in the day, BUT… he is currently an Advisor for Baseball Operations for none other than, the San Diego Padres. Considering the fact that Darvish is already an influence on Sasaki, I could picture Roki wanting to go to SD to be close to his father’s favorite player, Nomo.
Roki Sasaki's journey is incredible his talent is undeniable, and his splitter sounds next level! Can't wait to see where he lands in MLB. The future is bright for this guy! 🔥⚾
Agree. All these hater fandoms acting like he wouldn’t be a star in LA. Remember the deferred contract? That was also with Roki in mind should he choose LA. If Roki does choose LA, that 3-headed Godzilla rotation will be sick 😎🤙🏾⚾️💪
Japanese baseball fans are already big fan of Roki so whichever he goes we buy merchandise. Although La is second biggest market in mlb, skyrocket it is.
As a Japanese, I agree. The criteria for exposure is daily broadcast throughout the season. Only Dodgers will have that. Since Shohei plays everyday AND pitches. The exposure is also on the dugout DRAMA on Japanese broadcast meaning EVERYDAY Yamamoto is exposed on screen, even the days he does not pitch. As much as Yu Darvish is popular in Japan, he doesn’t have daily coverage, not even when he pitches. That’s why he never had a chance to become big sponsor object like Ichiro, in those days when Japanese TV broadcast daily from Mariners games. Only place Roki would get that exposure is with the Dodgers. Since Roki has a sellable looks with the young girls he will get sponsorship offers as long as he is exposed regularly. But only then. Highlights at evening sports news won’t do it.
Best Sasaki video on the internet. Great research. I don't see him anywhere but the West Cosst tho. I personally see him as a Padre, despite being in LA and Dodher fan. Ohtani and Yamamoto vs Darvish and Sasaki just feels right. Also a way to put him on a more sustained path for league awards. Question is, how many TJ operations await him???
I'm hoping the Japan/Seattle connection will finally come through and we'll get him on my M's. With his salary capped, and us in the maximum bonus category, it's the only time we would make a play with our spending limits. We aren't an established team, but we have good pieces, excellent pitching. I'm not holding my breathe, but I'm definitely hoping
Killer breakdown! I’ve been following Roki for a while now and have this feeling that he, like Shohei, doesn’t care as much about the $ as much as he does about the game, and his role in becoming a historic player! For Sasaki, specifically, based on his tragic family history, it’s even possible that he feels that baseball saved his life, thus, he just wants to play on the biggest stage in the world and prove he’s one of the best, too. Anywho, lol, just a subscribed and can’t wait to check out your other vids! Cheers
Thank you for this. If he waits until January 15th or later, I think he will be a Padre. I really appreciate the fact you mentioned his relationship with Yu Darvish.
Before this video all I knew was that he was an exciting pitcher to watch during the WBC and he was a dude I always made sure to add to my franchise in MLB the show. It'll be cool to see him in MLB... Unless he's with the Dodgers that is.
If you’re gonna give him a pitching and innings cap, the Dodgers are the better fit because they can have a 6-man rotation and have bullpen days to further limit his use. If he goes to the Padres, Yankees or the Orioles, he’s going to be a part of a 5-Man rotation with a not so deep bullpen, or at least not as deep as the Dodger’s bullpen.
I've watched enough anime to know if a guy has an origin story where family dies he will go super saiyan and won't quit. His body may break down, but he won't stop.
I do believe its between the dodgers and Padres but 2 factors I think might work for the dodgers, 1. Yu darvish is 38, so theres no guarantee that he'll be there for the distant future, unlike shohei and yamamoto who are locked on the dodgers for like a decade. 2. (definitely not a 1 to 1 comparison), but he could have seen Shohei's tenure on the Angels and may want to avoid being on a middling team until he's able to reach true free agency.
Coach, staff, infrastructure, team culture, and development plan for the next 6 years would be far more important than whether there are other Japanese pitchers or not. From a purely show business perspective, many Japanese baseball fans would like to see Sasaki pitch against Ohtani. (That said, cities with direct flights to/from Japan, Japanese supermarkets, restaurants, and schools for kids are appreciated by all Japanese expats in the US.)
Also, Ruben Niebla for the Padres is an elite pitching coach. I think outside of the Dodgers the Padres have the best situation for him to be successful in the MLB.
@@johnnyboyjohns2930be for real who got smacked in that series besides Cease on 3 days rest? Nobody… it was our offense that let us down in 2 series clinching games.
For the Dodgers, they could easily run a 6man rotation or a 5.5 man (15-20 starts by a swingman/men) More than half of their rotation is accustomed and should be perfectly fine with it already. Every one of them (assuming Roki) has a recent arm issue, so It's time to protect the investment over the egos.
I like your conclusion. Is Roki Sasaki the Kevin Durant of MLB? Obviously the ramifications aren't as severe, but it would be nice to see him join another team.
I think the actual pronunciation of his name is closer to "lawki". It is similar to the Japanese abbreviation for the Labor Standards Inspection Office (Rou-ki)
He can make the most Advertisment money with the Dodgers. They have the highest market, Japanese products are highlighted at the field, and these three on a Billboard in Japan for a decades. 192 milly TV deal.
He wasn’t a first overall pick, they do not have numbered picks in the first round. He was a CONTESTED first round pick, he was selected by 4 teams (being a contested pick means you are a top prospect, usually)
I’d suspect the Padres and Mariners to be more likely to bring in Sasaki. He won’t be chasing the most money in the contract, but he will want to become the star Japanese player of the city he chooses.
Couldn’t he just ask whatever team signs him to “extend” him? Thereby giving him that big contract in a way. Like we already see a lot of rookies get extensions for more money than they’d otherwise make through their first three years (braves)
I remember following this guy all the way back when he was still coming up through Highschool and he was already showing absurd talent then, glad to see he's getting attention at the MLB level. Hopefully he goes somewhere interesting for once instead of a huge market team, since he'll be forgoing a huge upfront contract....
I think theres a very different mentality of Japanese and Americans. I don't think all these japenese stars think about living in the shadow of a fellow japanese, as at the end of the day, they are still foreigners in America and would definitely prefer to be with fellow countrymen
Several of the LAD pitchers you listed will miss 2025 due to TJohn. KHurt, RRyan, Sheehan, GStone, plus DMay can never stay healthy and has had 2 TJ surgeries.
Why?!? Even Padres fans can’t stand most of their players. Last I checked, Shohei is the Pride of Japan. Ofcourse, the fans will be cheering for the LA Dodgers.
Why on earth did he get pulled 1 inning away from pitching back to back perfect games? Is a respect thing? Like the manager didn’t want to “disrespect” the other team?
Ohhh the Brady Singer trade makes so much more sense now! We moved em because we’re getting Roki!…….
I wish
You wish 🤫
No
Absolutely I wish.

Glad to see I’m not the only one to see that he looks like Nolan Arenado. I commented it during the Wild Card stream in 2021.
Agreed - love the channel, only disappointed by the lack of olive content.
For the record his 19 K perfect game is a huge candidate for best game ever pitched, that was literally an unreal performance, genuinely an absurd game to watch
How many MLB guys he strike out in that game bud?
@@burzzz3009 Wow pure MLB arrogance at work in your comment
Japanese players are contact hitters like Suzuki . If anything should be up there w mlb players
Absolute moron comment @@burzzz3009
It is statistically harder to pitch a perfect game in NPB than MLB. The perfect game is considered the best pitched game atm
Dammit Jolly, I sprained my eyeballs by rolling them so hard at that Colorado Rokies joke

I would imagine Nomo influence would push him more towards the dodgers. Nomo influenced him to be a dodgers fan growing up.
Roki Sasaki's journey is incredible his talent is undeniable, and his splitter sounds next level! Can't wait to see where he lands in MLB. The future is bright for this guy! 🔥⚾
Preller also mentioned Rok Sasaki by name as someone Peter Seidler was excited about down the road at Seidler's celebration of life
I don’t agree that his endorsements would hinder in LA, I actually think the opposite, they would skyrocket next to Ohtani and Yama in LA
Agree. All these hater fandoms acting like he wouldn’t be a star in LA. Remember the deferred contract? That was also with Roki in mind should he choose LA. If Roki does choose LA, that 3-headed Godzilla rotation will be sick 😎🤙🏾⚾️💪

Its clear he wants to win and compete. And due to that, the Mariners will be out

Research well done! You did a great job finding infos about the complicated relation between him and his team
Mariners? Good pitching ballpark, dominant pitching staff to be able to cusion innings limit, Ichiro Susuki?
finally someone made a video about Roki Sasaki

Been waiting for this
Great video explaining everything from
anyone but the Dodgers, please. It's just not fair. All teams may as well go into rebuild mode for 5+ years.
The dodgers have the proven playoff pedigree and its clear that Roki cares a lot about winning.
I love your videos man. Your presentation is very crisp & you deliver your points clearly. Wishing you the most success possible in this space.
Sugimoto was the PL HR Leader from 2021. Murakami, who is playing in Central League, led all NPB with 55.

Darvish was just extended through 2028, so he’s guaranteed to be there for the next 4 years.

This could be my Orioles bias, but Nick Markakis just sounds exactly right for a Jolly Olive video
as a yankees fan obviously i’d want him here but for the story and rivalry padres is best option
Also, Ruben Niebla for the Padres is an elite pitching coach. I think outside of the Dodgers the Padres have the best situation for him to be successful in the MLB.

I think a lot of people forget that Darvish is the one that helped convince Seiya and Shota to come to the Cubs, just sayin
Velocity is down because they altered his delivery this year. He's striding about 8 inches farther this year with his release point the same.

Fans need to understand that if your team won’t have a six man rotation, your team is not likely to land him.
He wasn’t a first overall pick, they do not have numbered picks in the first round. He was a CONTESTED first round pick, he was selected by 4 teams (being a contested pick means you are a top prospect, usually)
sure would be cool to see him in San Diego
Mark my words, it’s 1 of 3 teams Mets, Padres, and hear me out… Angels being the stepping stone for ohtani and la market available to him
I hope the Astros know about him.
Unfortunately astros never sign these type of players
I’d suspect the Padres and Mariners to be more likely to bring in Sasaki. He won’t be chasing the most money in the contract, but he will want to become the star Japanese player of the city he chooses.
Clown, he’s a star in LA already. 😂
Japanese players lately are not thinking like that. If that were the case then Yama would have gone to the Mets
I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go to a team like the Giants if they throw money at him, or maybe even a team like the Jays could go for him too
RVD MENTIONED!!!!!
Couldn’t he just ask whatever team signs him to “extend” him? Thereby giving him that big contract in a way. Like we already see a lot of rookies get extensions for more money than they’d otherwise make through their first three years (braves)

Do they chant "Beat LA" in San Diego?
Just wanna point out our club's name is pronounced Chiba Lotte(Lot-taye) in English or Rotte in Japanese
crazy how Logan gilbert has a great splitter that he only starting throwing it in 2023
woah happy grape I think a light 8 is a bit low
Roki being “overshadowed” by sho and Yama is a hilarious reason for him to not sign with us
I ask why they are letting him leave early, they hold him till he is 25 and they make 30 million on him. Could arm troubles be very close.
He's going to join Shota on the North Side.
If the mariners sign him they will win 116 games; for every time they have a pitcher with the last name “sasaki” they will 116 games
My only hope that Sasaki comes to the Red Sox
He’s a ranger
He is going to the Dodgers
If he goes to the Dodgers I will actually will be done with baseball. Fuck that noise

No, changeups and splitters are just similar pitches
