I do think you could have done a bridge piece between the start and and end of your journey. Maybe you could have shown what it was like in the motorway services the coach stopped at for example. Just a minute of that would have be long enough.
I tried this for the first time the other night. Overall the quality of service is excellent. The driver and his colleagues were very friendly. Everything ran to time. Indeed we arrived into Glasgow early. Apparently our bus was one of the older fleet - but it was fine. Was assured the new fleet is better. I managed to acquire the desirable seat 2A. National Express's hidden jewel must be the quality and professionalism of their Driving Crews. Travelling from Portsmouth to Glasgow via Victoria Coach Station (on the day coach) my Coach got caught up in a traffic jam and was running slightly late but the driver called through to Dispatch at Victoria Departures explaining my position and where he was currently, keeping them informed all the way to Arrivals. On running (then I could do it!) to Departures across the road I arrived at the Stance to find the Coach had departed the Stance but had pulled in to the side nearby. On arriving breathless at the Coach I came across a smiling driver who said, "we knew you were coming" before taking my bag and stowing it in the hold". Brilliant Operators.

A long time ago (1983) I travelled with Stagecoach from Glasgow to London overnight. We stopped near Preston where you could get out and have a coffee, and had another stop at Toddington services. Slept for an hour or two. Can't remember how much I paid, maybe a fiver each way, but it was a good trip.
I sometimes got the National Express to and from uni (this was about 10 years ago now). I discovered it was cheaper if you went mid-week and bought a ticket from the start point to the end point. What I used to do though was (in London) get off 1 or 2 stops early near an overground station which meant I got home quicker. In relation to coaches the Caetano Levante the drivers always used to say 'These are a piece of plastic, uncomfortable to sit in - we prefered the Scania irzia's.' Megabus used to do a Gold Sleeper service to Scotland. They don't do that any more but it would have been nice to try.
In 2002 I did Edinburgh to Penzance with National Express. The bus drivers were shocked that we were going all the way. 19 & 1/2 hours on the one coach leaving at 9:30pm & arriving into Penzance at 5pm. The worst part was when it was morning & realising that there was still hours & hours to go.

Bruce 1956. You must have been really unlucky to experience punctures on trips. I used the Night Eastern Scottish services between London & Edinburgh extensively in the mid 70's to mid 80's and yes, it was a 12 hour trip each way. But reliability was key to their success and I never experienced any issues. There were route variations through England but centred on the A1 then then with the opening of the Motorways, new routes used the M1 / M6 then using the A Roads linking Scottish Border towns. The fare then was £3 return!
Your videos are always great, discovered your channel by accident, many years ago (early 2000’s) I was a driver for parks of Hamilton (based in Rochdale) doing national express services, we just had the neoplan skyliners when I started and I used to do Manchester airport to Aberdeen service, I’d go as far as Hamilton and then another driver took over from there to continue to Aberdeen, it seems like the modern day national express isn’t too bad at all, I don’t think I could do that job now but like how it works, keep up the great content, it’s just simple easy to understand and no nonsense, I really like that, all the best.

Thanks for this video! I've actually just booked a long trip from Dundee to Cardiff, using National Express for Glasgow to London and London to Edinburgh on your recommendation. It was only a few pound more and I got seat 2A too. Hoping for a better trip (and quieter clientele) than the Megabus.
I used to do this journey frequently, like twice a month, as I was dating a girl in Glasgow who was from Norwich (where I live). I also traveled from Norwich to Cambridge by train and from Cambridge London Victoria by NatEx coach, changing at Victoria before heading up to Glasgow. I did this twice a month (sometimes 3 times) for well over a year! All for the princely sum of £36 return each time (before travel card discount)
This is decent I suppose. Last time I used National Express (which was just London Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport) it had the tatty fabric seats like you find on the London Underground and it was somewhat cramped, but I do find it so disappointing that there is nothing more akin to the seats on the Eurostar for a reasonable price. Scott, you should check out the LUX coaches that go between Poland and Estonia. I went on the LUX Lounge between Riga and Tallinn in 2018 and it puts all UK public transport into sharp perspective. Plush lazyboy style recliner seats with a leg rest, a screen in the back of the seat with movies and music, a headset, complimentary water and cereal bar and free coffee on board. I promise even you will be able to fall asleep on them - and it only cost 20 Euros one way for a 4 and a half hour journey! I really don't know why the UK has nothing like those, and if it did I'm sure they would be charging £100+ with a straight face.
I generally don't like coach travel (although been to Spain on the coach a few times) as I suffer from toilet anxiety. However used the National Express from Manchester to Birmingham and back a few weeks ago and I could not fault the service. Both were on time but going it was very busy due to the strain strike on that day. It helped that both Manchester and Birmingham have a proper national express station so lots o staff around if there is any delays etc. I would never use Megabus again as I had too many bad experiences with it. Your experience at Knutsford reminds me of my first London - Glasgow trip. We stopped at Charnock Richard, and as it was a nice day and there was an exit out of the services onto a country lane, I went for little walk. Of course, a passing driver stopped and asked me for directions, but I didn't even know which county I was in, let alone where he wanted to go! Having two stops, plus calls at Heathrow & Carlisle sounds a bit excessive - too many things to wake you up (if you've got to sleep).
The two 30 minute stops are for the driver to have a rest break due to the driving hours laws. In my experience, there’s loads of people who don’t wake up for them and those that do, normally pop in for a hot chocolate and are back sleeping again not long after. NX is the only night route I’d take from London to Glasgow
@@s125ish That’ll be because they do driver changes on route at the multiple customer stops, I’ve also experienced Megabus having to sit in a lay-by as the driver ran out of hours and needed to wait for a relief driver to arrive.

I took the Caledonian Sleeper from Euston to Carlisle and I concur, it was awful. One of the worst nights of my life. Drifting in and out of consciousness whilst stopping and starting constantly, combined with people coming and going. Sheer misery.
Used to get this bus to Belfast and then go onto Donegal for a week or a few days and do the whole journey again. My life was fucked back then. I would repeat this cycle for a few months. My drinking was higher then. Now I’ve done 12 steps I am attending regular AA meetings. My life’s much better. 6 years Sobor..five years off cigarettes 🚬
I guess that National Express is a good option to travel from London to Glasgow. Myself I can't find even one to go from London to Southend on sea for a day trip.😣
I've done overnight coach journeys to Europe but never been able to sleep even though the seats were comfortable. But on shorter National Express coach journeys in the evening I've managed to doze off a few times, probably because I can lean against the window. The other coaches have too big a gap between the seat and the window.
They all have toilets fitted but that doesn't mean all of the toilets are operational. On one journey the toilet was out of action. We had to use the toilet at the stops where the driver had a 30 min break. Plenty time to go to the service area toilets but several hours between leaving London and the first service area, then more hours to second. Some males at the back of the bus tried to pee into bottles. Failure. Piss everywhere.
@@BoskiM: Oh it's a law? Didn't know that, was sure that I've seen some non-toilet fitted coaches recently(!) Would also think that it's harder making them accessible too!
I wonder about the size of those seats. They look narrow and the seat looks short. Travelling on trains in the UK, especially in Scotland, I found the short squab very off-putting. It is hard to relax on a seat that doesn't fully support the upper leg. They tout "more leg room" by simply shortening the seat. I still have the same leg measurement from hip to heel, so I'm just less comfortable.
I have a shorter trip with national express from Victoria to great Yarmouth that is just under 4 hours as I paid £3 for the ticket and I paid extra To reserve 2A after watching this video but I also brought a second ticket to reserve seat 2B
Yep it takes 12 hours from Stranraer very hard on the drivers very tiring journey too long behind the wheel for the two drivers not as safe as it should be the drivers I have noticed get tired because it’s a long journey but this service is no longer available ,two drivers can drive for 21 hours yet we are supposed to be taking safety off the passenger’s is our first priority Vosa need to shorten the hours the drivers can drive this is far too long a mental and fiscal strain on drivers

Is there any National express from Ashton underlyne Manchester to London Victoria. 🙏
Last time I used NE it was full of of smelly oiks all taking up both seats so my wife and I had to sit apart sheffield to London. All the way down the M1 the coach was swerving between lanes and I actually txt NE from the coach as I thought the driver was drifting off. Then we stopped and a other driver already on the coach took over and drove normally. The trip back was fine but never again.
Where does the bus leave you in cental off London I was thinking of getting the bus from Glasgow myself to try it
Using Senior Railcard.
Bradford to London KX by Grand Central
Underground transfer to Marylebone - two tubes
Marylebone to High Wycombe by Chiltern
10:30 to 14:30
AND return - £84 but you need to book six weeks ahead
With Senior CoachCard
NatEx Bradford to Birmingham, one hour stopover board same bus and Birmingham to HW
7:30 to 14:30
Return is about £74
Train for me every time.
Very nice, another good seat option to travel between Glasgow-London!
Good Video and congratulations on over 14k Subscribers:)
I enjoyed that departing from next to my old Office until 1989:)
How much are the single and return journeys, please,on National Express,My Friend?
20 quid for an 8+ hour trip is pretty good. 13 even better of course.
I travelled with national express for years now i use it from London to Belfast with my freinds
How much is national Express from Heathrow T2 to Glasgow ? Please any idea?
I love traveling in National Express Bus. But this time when I came to UK, you have stoped from Victoria to Peterborough. So I was very disappointed. Please start it again. From Sti Lanka
3:34
Your phone could have told you were you were, couldn't it ?
National Express have stopped Coventry to Skegness which I have done ever year for the past 10 years which has caused me a lot of stress the coaches were always fully booked so I don’t understand
The tiny Natex booth at Victoria ain't there any more. Changing times.
I took the Caledonian Sleeper from Euston to Carlisle and I concur, it was awful.
One of the worst nights of my life. Drifting in and out of consciousness whilst stopping and starting constantly, combined with people coming and going.
Sheer misery.
Try reviewing any coach trip in the back half of the bus near the stinky on-board toilets.. it's like riding for five hours inside a massive turd.
i take the NE every month i was on it on friday dirt cheap
Used to get this bus to Belfast and then go onto Donegal for a week or a few days and do the whole journey again. My life was fucked back then. I would repeat this cycle for a few months. My drinking was higher then. Now I’ve done 12 steps I am attending regular AA meetings. My life’s much better. 6 years Sobor..five years off cigarettes 🚬
Hi there, any idear how I can go to Spain from London by coach or train no change?
I guess that National Express is a good option to travel from London to Glasgow. Myself I can't find even one to go from London to Southend on sea for a day trip.😣
How were the seats?
Were they comfier than MegaBus or Flix?
I've done overnight coach journeys to Europe but never been able to sleep even though the seats were comfortable. But on shorter National Express coach journeys in the evening I've managed to doze off a few times, probably because I can lean against the window. The other coaches have too big a gap between the seat and the window.
Do these coaches have onbord toilets?
Of course by law all coaches have them. Just be careful not to sit next to them for obvious reasons
Take the National Express if your life is a mess, it'll make you smile.
It would have been good to know what time you left London and what time you arrived in Glasgow.
It departs London 22:30 and arrives in Glasgow 7:30. In my experience it often arrives early in Glasgow.
I'm just unhappy there no non stop London to Blackpool anymore
Does anyone know what it's like sleeping on a National Express coach from London to Scotland?
2B, or not 2B. This is the question!
I have done this so long takes so long😱
I can't believe London to Glasgow only under seven minutes.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks for scrolling down
Try london to Inverness now that’s the big haul.
I don't think they have a direct one
@@me5425 they do mate ,Victoria via Cumbria, Glasgow then on to Inverness
I have done it twice although 4 or 5 years ago ,it may have discontinued ?
Used to use em regularly, now they've stopped the service from Peterborough, gutted
I don't know how you cope with it. I've done London to Stranraer and back and seated rail sleeper to Glasgow. They are overpowering journeys.
I tried the London to Aberdeen ovrrnight coach about 22 years ago. 12 and half hours. Never again.I tried the London Brussels Eurolines in 2008 but was only 6 hours including the boat trip.
Western SMT I suppose is no longer available
