The most infuriating part about the "recreating violence you saw in a video game" lunacy is that there have been plenty of instances of people recreating violence they saw in EVERY form of media. It's just that when, for example, that group of schoolchildren in Germany were playing Power Rangers on the playground and they ended up *beating one of the kids to death woth rocks,* nobody was rallying to ban violent shows for children. They just saw the situation for what it was and went "wow those kids are fucked up." Look, I'll be the first to tell you that I've see plenty of people recreate things they saw in video games. The amount of posts I've seen in the Stardew Valley subreddit of people going "me and my partner love Stardew Valley so I got somebody to make me the pendant you use in the game to marry an NPC and I'm going to propose to my partner with it irl" or "Stardew Valley's message of being a corporate drone ruining your sense of self worth and the importance of a connection to nature and other people resonated with me so much I bought a farm in real life" is staggering. People *do* recreate things they see in video games. But it's always the things that had a profoundly positive effect to their mental state or their lives as a whole. People will cosplay, people will propose with an in-game item irl, people will change the structure of their *entire lives* if ANY piece of media has enough of a positive impact on them. And when that happens nobody freaks out about it, because recreating something from a piece of media that had a positive effect on your life is a very common and normal thing. But if someone boots up that one Call of Duty where you shoot up an airport and thinks to themselves "I want to do that," then that person isn't a normal human being. That person also could have *any* fucking piece of media cause them to go on a rampage, because reacting to violent media with the desire to replicate it is something only a mentally ill person would do. And I can't stand the fact that my favorite hobby unjustly gets turned into a soccer mom boogeyman because some fucking dipshit from the early 2000s tried to point at a bunch of random acts of violence and go "that's all because of video games!" And for him to not only provide no evidence, but for a bunch of other, way more stupid dipshits to fucking believe hom.
This entire comment should be pinned JUST for the “someone wanting to commit crimes after consuming violent media is the one responsible due to their mental health, not the violent show/book/game/etc” part!
Don't forget the P4 incident where someone recreated one of the plot relevant murders in the game. This led to the studio needing to put an agreement that the player acknowledges all the work in the game is fiction and are not reality People are fucked up, not the game
Yea, we should've just skipped over Gen-Z and go directly to whatever the latest generation of kids are called, 'cause ain't no way they're gonna grow up worse than those wackos
If the game have realistic destructible buildings I would totally try to ram as much stuff into it as possible to see it fall down because that sound like fun thing to do.
The biggest thing for me is that the people calling for censorship in adult media do so for children and teenagers, people who shouldn’t even have access to said adult media and would only have access to it due to inattentive adults
Yes, the internet is a den of absolute idiocy. Violence didn't exist before video games made people do it, and nobody ever got murdered before guns were invented. History was wrong, the world was a completely peaceful utopia up till 10th century. Nobody ever got sick and died, nobody stole or beat people up, nobody got killed, etc.... I swear to god the longer it goes on the more I think people should require a license to use the internet. We make em get a licence to drive because that's a highly dangerous activity and it's important that they be properly educated first, but the internet is by far more dangerous than that and we just let any old idiots get on and ruin the world :/
These people either never play games are just suddenly worried for internet clout. Just like antis calling lolicon pedos and secretly loving lolis themselves, I bet you these people who are against video game violence have played GTA, CoD, Mortal Kombat... etc.
Doesn't matter whether it's Jack Thomson, Anita Sakreesian, or some random idiot on Twitter, there will always be _someone_ out there who will say, "I don't like when people have fun, and I can't distinguish fantasy from reality very well, what should I do today?"
That's true, but what should be different is that we should not reward them for being so dumb. We should not have a repeat of those Jack Thompsons or Anitas.
@@talkingtakotaco8611 Unfortunately, time slowly but surely erases everyone's memories, and we just repeat the same stupid stuff over and over again. I'm old enough to barely remember Jack Thomson. How many mental midgets like him and Anita Sarkeesian do you think there were in history before them who we don't know about because we're too young to remember it? I bet you, back when some caveman made the first piece of art in all of history, there was another caveman saying "Ug! Why you paint that, Grug? Grug shouldn't paint such violet scene on cave wall, Grug might cause violence if other emulate scene, whole tribe should beat Grug for crime of inciting violence with cave painting." As silly as it makes us look, this is why we gotta defend the media we love. Give those who censor no quarter, no matter what “social climate” we’re in or ever will be in.
So gatekeeping the hobbys like whats be warned years ago that people like 'them' would invade and hijack the mediums to destroy them like many others before video games?

I'm really grateful that there are people like you and all of the fine folk in the comment section here who aren't as braindead as these people. It gives me at least some hope for the future.
I don’t think it’s young people who are at fault here, because I am and was part of the generation that grew up hearing about school bootings every once in a while on the news and the news also spreads false truths about things and you can see why it’s some young people, not all.

Sex, erotism and violence in videogames are always the hot button issue but at least Jack Thomson, helicopter parents and soccer moms didn't want to forbid adults from playing those games, Twitter freaks actually conscious that the person they're talking to is likely 17 to 18 her they want to ban violence, sex, erotism and nudity in videogames.
@jackstauberiscool it's because the 90's Christians and today's atheist are high on the same drug, unearned, moral superiority and panic, except that in the 90's it was "think of the children", children being young people who eventually leave the status of child and this no longer need to be a concern. Here is "think of the trans, black, no binary womyn sexworker", all of these being adults who are somehow affected by what's depicted in the fiction and thus you cannot ever loosen the grip or stop the activism because people who are "affected" by those portrayals in media. It's not "think of the potential little consumer", it's "think what the victimized group! The consumer, no matter the age, will perpetuate evil against a helpless minority"
@jackstauberiscool children shouldn't be on Twitter. And the ESRB literally labels videogames so one can know the age range at which a certain type of person can play it, giving kids under 18 games like GTA being heavily adviced agaisnt. And sorry to burst your bubble but there's no such thing as hate speech "hate speech", hate speech can be just saying "Yea, now Mark goes by Marceline, can't expect more from such inbred 🅱️etard" becuase I used the wrong pronouns and that's someone, harmlessly talking about someone else yet it's also a hate speeching criminal offense according to the Canadianshire goverment.
This because it not actually about protected children or any real moral reason those are just an excuse for them to get rid of stuff they don't like because they find it "Distasteful" .
@jackstauberiscool It sounds like you are not actually for free speech. Freedom of Speech is meant to protect unpopular speech. That would include "hate speech" or whatever the left doesn't like as the left's own bigotry clearly doesn't count as hate speech in their eyes.
I think that some of them will grow out of it, and others will... take care of themselves. But, the rest... well, we really have a problem on our hands.

For people who thing GTA is problematic: - If you let your underage child play GTA, YOU are the problem - If you are an adult, then you should have enough braincell to tell it's fantasy and not reality I still remember when Mortal Kombat movie came out in theater, a mom walked out with 3 kids all 3 look less than 10 year old complaining the movie was too violent for kids to watch...
Fun fact: despite what antis says, studies have shown that the function of violence and sex uses the same part of the brain, this means and also implies that comparing other fictional content, such as l0li, furries, proshippers, etc, to violent video games is acceptable and the “it’s different” excuse by antis is invalid Sadly, this platform hates links, but just by searching “violence and sexual same part of brain” then you’ll get endless results. This also means any argument for violent video games can be applied to other media and vice versa As for this specific argument, well, I just gotta say this, as someone who’s already working in a game, they said the same thing for rock-in-roll, D&D, emo kids, LGBTQ+, people of color, violent movies, violent shows, and much more, yet just like video games there’s no evidence to support any of this
Interestingly there's a rather large kink on H sites where people get off to violence, mutilation and killing of characters. The same brain space being used might explain that.
@@chad_bro_chill Meanwhile "Person of Color" is a nicer detour to "Colored". Kinda like instead of "stealing" it could be "involuntary transfer of ownership".
I've literally made an argumentative essay about violence in video games doesn't contribute to violence in the real world. That was 9 years ago when I was in middle school. History truly repeats itself again and again. Folks this is why you go to school and study the material, otherwise you will end up as a braindead twitter take.

Its at this point it is always wise to look at their profile before replying, its better to stupid-zone and hope they limit their internet access for our benefit cause they really shouldn’t be on there lmfao.
My grandparents didn't want me playing those M rated games, not because of the violence, but because they KNEW it wasn't for my age range. Once I got old enough they said, "you can turn on public access television and see things that make those games seem like Sesame Street. What do you think came first, GTA, or WW1? It's really easy to blame these game because what are they gonna do? Plead the fifth?" And they're right. People will blame literally ANYTHING before they blame themselves.
Rated M is for ages 17+, no reason that 8 years old should be playing it other than bad parenting. I was 14 when I bought my first Rated M game and had to have my dad come in with me, my dad didn't care because I was buying it with my own money. He was always the more neglectful parent
Heh, my neighbours and my brother and I bought call of duty modern warfares in series. They’re got modern warfare 4 at their house. We’ve got the modern warfare 2 and 3, though I never got to finish 3’s story. *long happy sigh* oh it was nice in the old days when I loved shooting their them with a bazooka in 2. Strangely enough we didn’t become violent from this, not do I notice my brother become violent. Sure enough we violated the 18 ratings and went ahead but I’m surprised our parents didn’t scare us into not playing them. Guess those games aren’t adult enough🤷🏻♀️
I played "wrong age category" games as a kid. The only difference is that I had more fun than kids who didn't, because games made for kids typically neuter themselves for the sake of "kid friendliness".
Funny thing is, before video games it was movies and music and even comics books. Yes, even superhero stories were treated as dangerous to children and could potentially corrupt them. The logic used is often stupid, basically; Guy commits crime, then they find out he was big into whatever (music, comics, games) and then they do the Home alone shocked face and proclaim that they were corrupted by that media, completely ignoring the grand majority of people that consume that stuff and never do anything bad.
The last time I heard about a "gamer" actually taking main role in a school shooting or something, obv in the US, they played only Tetris. Correct me if I'm wrong o_O;

It truly baffles my mind with these Twitter freaks. Who have most likely grown up with or around video games/anime and yet cannot grasp reality and separate fiction from reality. Yet will scream and shout at people as though we are insane for saying "it's just a game, it's not real".
Well, no, not really. People complain about violence in video games, because they think it leads to violence in real life. People complain about sexual content on places not intended for it, because they don't want to be bothered with sexual content in a place where there isn't supposed to be any sexual content. :P For instance, uploading porn to youtube, is not appropriate, you cna upload whatever you want to Pornhub or whatever, but youtube is not supposed to have that content. There's a difference, people don't complain about sexual content because they think it leads to IRL criminal behavior,, they complain about it, because it annoys them... Entirely different. :P
Can't believe a game developer said that. I did lots of m*ss sh**ting in my game when I stress tested the pool system for enemies. I also made my character jump from high places(and d*) for countless times when I stress tested the seamless area loading.
"My 8 year old son plays it" ... alright "...who teach him what is wrong and what is right" Letting your 8 year old son play a videogame not suited for children is not right, so... obvisously you don't know yourself what is right and wrong. "But not all kids have the luck of having good education at home" Indeed, your son is the best example.

@dansmith1661 It's getting worse anyway. People are inherently violent, just need to look at history for that. Games and movies don't change this, doesn't matter what fictional content is permitted
here's the dark part, now that this crowd cares about this, there will start being studies that prove the connection. They will structure the entire field of psychology to get the results they want.
Honestly not surprised. This has been happening for years now, first it was small little things then character design and fanservice and now predictably they are going after violence. The tourists need to be booted from the industry and given a hobby more of their speed, like watching paint dry.
It’s funny you mention postal 2 because back in the day it was one of the first shooters to implement a pacifist route and making violence mostly optional as a means to let the player naturally decide if they want to be violent. Basically making the point that video games do not cause violence, but the person’s mindset already wanting to do it.
Jack Thompson types realized they could get grifters like Anita Sarquesian into the games industry and compromise it that way lol. Been saying this for a while, and I'm getting proven more and more correct by the day.

9:06 - Anyone making the realism argument has got to be in like middle school or younger. The threshold for what is considered realistic has always varied with the technology available, and yes, people in the late 90s and early 2000s were making that exact same argument too. If you've been around for a while, you'll doubtless be able to remember many different games that you thought were so realistic and immersive when they'd just come out, yet when you play them again now, they seem almost laughably unrealistic.
Games like gta and other games you can commit crimes in are made for a very good reason and that is to give people the ability to do things they wouldn't be able to and relieve stress after a long day of work

Thank you!!!

Sadly, this platform hates links, but just by searching “violence and sexual same part of brain” then you’ll get endless results. This also means any argument for violent video games can be applied to other media and vice versa

"i mean i do violent things in video games, but i dont do it in real life cuz i dont wanna get hurt"
Jack Thompson types realized they could get grifters like Anita Sarquesian into the games industry and compromise it that way lol. Been saying this for a while, and I'm getting proven more and more correct by the day.
A patsy or a useful idiot
Infiltrated by the mentally insane.
To quote Stan Marsh: “Okay dude, I didn’t want to have to say this, but you’re really starting to sound like your mom.”
Perfect, south park did it
South park did it
😂😅
If I get a dollar whenever people complain about fictional violence in a game about you know... fictional violence, I would be able to buy the upcoming GTA 6 release.
@jackstauberiscoolwhat the hell is wrong with kids these days
Twitter saying violence in games is bad in 2023 is like watching a reanimated episode of a show.
"Lets not focus on solving a very hard and complex real problem, lets do the easy thing and blame it on one thing and be done with it! At least it makes me feel good and morally correct."
Basically what these people do.
Anita Sarkeesian Won.
You fell for the trap card. GG.
We have a whole generation of dyed hair, Twitter creatura that can’t handle seeing video game violence, or someone running a red light in vice city.

Don't disrespect Jack like that! He wouldn't mind adults playing, Twitter freaks in contrast won't let you play whatever game you want even if you are 18, 21 25 or 30.
We're moving backward...
Who actually believes he "won"? From what I recall, he lost his license to be a lawyer in 2008 and was a laughingstock.
How many mental gymnastics do the antis have to hop through to think Jack Thompson "won"?
@@hermos3602 "Who says he's won?" are you seeing that people are literally outraged by violence in one of the videogames that was key on the creation of the ESRB?
Gamers we must rise up against the Twitter freaks. Whos with me
Me
'Gamers rise up?' 'Gamers' can't even manage to boycott Blizzard, one of the worst companies _period_ . They openly spew hate at their fans, support an evil communist regime, drive their employees to self-forever-sleep, support the alphabet mafia, and make trash-tier video games.
When Bud Light screwed up, conservatives _destroyed_ them with the boycott, in like four months. Being a gamer myself, it fucking hurts to say this, but we're all loser bitches who won't stand up for ourselves because we're addicted to entertainment, no matter how bad it is.
Why would you bother? Just LET them fight eachother since everyone of them Is "right", eventually they Will cancel themselves out 😂
@@duckyo4045 Now that you mention it, This doesn't sound like a bad idea either
Twitter Freaks: Game should be banned violence
Some Guy: Team Fortress 2 allow gore and war crimes so I don't see any point for censoring it ...
Some Dude: If they released Metal Gear Rising Revengeance the lyrics for "Violence breeds Violence, In the end it has to be this way" censored ....
When Postal was released there was a decline in violent crime and when Postal 2 was released it happened again. There was a study done on this phenomenon back in the 90's.
Woah.... So we are back to fictional violence is LE BAD for society??? Damn full circle....
Can't have shit on the internet
This is why us the actual gamers who are passionate about them should've gatekeep our hobbies from these dangerous people
It really shows how these terminally online people just CANNOT separate fantasy and reality.
GmanLives is the last person I would've expected to be anti-violence in video games, that's crazy
People who stop for red lights in GTA need therapy.
I only do that when I'm bored and is waiting for a friend to join, but those mfs are actually the type of fellas to obey traffic lights in a GTA game because of "muh morals"
tbf though sometimes it can be funny to do the thing the game encourages you not to do. Like reverse psychology almost in a way, you're telling me "nah bro you can run the red lights" so I'm going to actually obey them because funi.
it's weird I don't know how to explain it.
They don't do it. They just pretend to so they can witch hunt. These bastards have their brains warped by the internet, and they think everyone is as delusional as they are.
I stopped at Red Lights in GTA. ... To steal better cars from dumb npcs.
I disagree sometimes it can be a fun challenge to try to follow laws don't hate on other people for having different play styles just because these twitter freaks otherwise your acting just like them
No way, we actually went into a loop of stupidity. God help us all, if you’re still out there.
I learned this quote from the video game Pandora's Tower. "Human beings are a foolish species. Always repeating mistakes of the past." I can't count how many times this quote has been proven to be true.
@@Zombie-Hunterthey are such fascinating creatures
@@therealjaystone2344theres an reason why perturbator has the song "Humans are such easy prey"
Trust me on this one, God _is_ out there, and He is so thoroughly disgusted that it is impossible to describe in mere language just how much He hates what the human race has become, and I, unfortunately, have no defense or counter argument. When the fire comes, I'm just going to ask Him to make it quick.
One of my favourite things to do in videogames is stealthing then assassinating mobs, preferably with a dagger. I also enjoy calling down meteors and firestorms to cause mayhem.
Okay, I'm off to get my black robe, staff, and glowing dagger from my bedroom so I can go on a... wait... oh yeah, this is real life. Sorry guys, I won't be summoning an inferno today. Will let you know if I ever figure out how to cast magic irl (don't hold your breaths for an update!)
I loved messing around in that hospital in GTA 4 having the wanted level up while seeing how long it would take for the cops to find me in the hospital rooms. I always grabbed the red plant and threw it at the NPCs, I also used the sodas from the vending machines too.
Twitter clearly doesn't like to have a fun time but I sure fucking did...
Love the update Rev! Much appreciated!
It's fox news in the early 2ks. my lord how nothing ever changes
Games like gta and other games you can commit crimes in are made for a very good reason and that is to give people the ability to do things they wouldn't be able to and relieve stress after a long day of work
It's not just we come full circle, but rather no one has learned from their past.
11:14 "I know what gta is, my 8 year old son plays it"
did this dude just confirm he let's his 8 year old son play an 18+ rated game
It went full circle, we're back to arguing over fictional violence. Kinda ironic how just a few days ago this was exactly the counterargument to lolis being *LiTeRaLlY a ChIlD!* But I guess they're trying to catch up.
It's kinda concerning how people really can't tell reality from fiction, but it goes to show, *censorship* never stops where you want it to stop. Once you allow it to start, it gets increasingly hard to stop it.
And I cannot stress this enough, *gatekeep your hobbies*
I was around for this in the 90s. Here we go again. It's historically consistent, but still feels odd, that the people making the same arguments are now much younger though.
Same. I grew up through the whole moral panic outrage nonsense of 80s, early 90s myself and I thought we moved passed it all tearing down idiots like Jack Thomson and Mary Whitehouse with legit study done facts debunking the stupid claims many times, but apparently not it seems 😞
Funny how there’s a specific demographic now of people between late 20’s and 40’s who have experienced multiple moral panics about absolutely nothing. D&D, rock & roll, video games, comic books.
The boomers had kids and they learned the same mistakes.
