    It's weird how capitalism/consumerism is more disturbing when you see it through the lens of a foreign culture, even though the basic mechanisms and resulting phenomena are the same (or just slightly different) in your own culture.

    • @noway4517
      @noway4517 6 лет назад +32

      The difference to porn is, the streamers can be seen like friends or girlfriends because they act as if they share their everyday life and they are online almost every day. Also you can make them notice you and say your name by giving them money. Some creepy guys like it when a young girl does what they tell them to do when they give them money. Most of their income is made from lonely people who are not capable of forming real relationships and/or men who are to ugly to get a girlfriend. Even though they also have to build a persona and kind of entertain their audience, their biggest asset is how they look because even when people want to act as though they have a friendly relationship to someone they only want to have that with a person that looks good and young. Most of them are not good entertainers, they wouldn't make it as a stand-up comedian or a commentator, people mostly watch them because they can pretend to have a good looking friend.

I thought it's just people who decide to stream their talent and build up their fanbase themselves.. but they have to audition and train for it and everything! 😱 I'm not sure how comfortable I am with the thought that there's a bunch of young girls in bedrooms with a camera whilst one man oversees everything... In a lot of Asian countries stalking isn't taken as seriously as it is here in America at least. So a lot of girls that expose themselves to a large male audience, end up having stalkers and end up putting themselves In Harm's Way. Still yes it is smart to have a male living in the dorm with them just in case anybody tries anything.

    These actually started in Korea first. The platform was called "Afreeca TV" and these live streamers are "bjs(broadcasting Jockey)" Watchers can send cash gifts. Probably you might have heard of "meokbahng" which is streaming a person's eating food live and ppl watch it. That is one of many types of live streamings. I guess China has way more ppl and huge market for that. Feel so sorry for Chinese's taking a lot of trash culture from Korea, especially all about girls' looks kinda culture.

      I thought JenniCam from 1996 was the first of this sort of thing. CamGirls are a thing in the US, too; they have been for a long time. Sure, mukbang started in South Korea, but it’s not exclusively female. There are a lot of popular male mukbang streamers like BJ Patoo and Banzz. It’s not entirely sexual either. A lot of people use mukbang as way to feel like they’re eating meals with someone.

    I really like the host of the second part of the documentary. It started off with webcam girls, but went into social media fashion marketing (which I guess is all interconnected). This kind of culture is manifesting in the US as well, but it's on a different level/moving at a different speed in China due to the sheer number of people.

The vloger and entrepreneurs where to only inspiring ones at this piece as they are working hard doing something they like. Characters in Japan are referred to as Kanji, with Chinese, they are referred to as Hanzi.
      Kanji is mostly traditional Chinese characters, and when they have simplifications, they are slightly different than simplified Chinese characters(which are used in mainland China; Traditonal is used in Taiwan and Hongkong), like having a different stroke order as an example.

The internet influencer industry is highly developed, with every face girl, there is a large team that helps her monetarize the influence, contacting factories to custom make products, doing her scripts, hiring teachers, nailing ads deals and all that. They don't just share those details of the business to journalists. It's online business, everyone can do streaming, there is no exploitation because they can easily switch agents, or simply manage their business themselves. It's like saying movie stars agents are exploiting them.

      And how exactly are they sacrificing their "soul" and dignity?

    • @MrMadalien
      @MrMadalien 7 лет назад +10

      The "soul" is an archetype in western culture that was advantageous for our ancestors in selection (mostly sexual selection). Westerners traditionally value "truth" i.e maintaining a core truth in your behavior, approaching things head on (e.g we value eye contact vs the Japanese who do not). It's hard to pinpoint what "soul" is but we know the point of being truthful to yourself is that it is biologically advantageous.
      In this case, it isn't advantageous on a biological level to artificially beautify people, because that beauty won't be reflected in their offspring. It's a very myopic thing to do. Plastic surgery benefits the individual, but not society as a whole.
      In general, our ability to manipulate pretty much every aspect of life (evolving medical sciences, transportation, propagation of information, etc.) is considered to be a good thing, what people fail to realize is that humans aren't capable of understanding all the ramifications of their actions and as such, this rapid technological advancement is nothing but a road towards destruction. On a rational level people can't understand this, how could we? But on a spiritual level we can, because our archetypal heroes would never do this. (what used to be christian archetypes is somewhat still alive in superhero comics, they adapted the archetypes) Superman, or Superwoman wouldn't use plastic surgery, etc.
      We know it's wrong, hence why we attribute "soul" to someone who stays true to their initial self. But since most people are hardcore atheists now we don't believe in "wrong". "wrong" is just an opinion now. I know this first hand as a formal "nihilist". Of course you want plastic surgery, plastic surgery makes people look nicer, looking nicer makes my dick harder, harder dick makes me feel good, this is chimp behavior, are we really that dumb?
      Just a thought!

I never got why so many use white subtitles which not only blend with colors but don't draw the eye like yellow. Also, I'd consider a different font with less spacing. When I turned on the youtube captions on proportional serif, it became far easier to read because it wasn't stretched over such a large area.

    China is obsessed with beauty. It's very different compared to us in the west. The paler you are, the prettier you are. A lot of Chinese girls want to look European. But, Chinese girls are arguably probably the prettiest girls in the world.
    If you ever visit southern Asian countries (Thailand for example), take a look at Chinese girls. While it's +35C outside, they still wear long sleeves and cover their heads with towels.
    And this kind of business is not really weird. China is huge and not just that, it was not open to the world for very long, so the way it's built is that it's a world of its own. China really doesn't need the rest of the world, it doesn't care about the rest of the world. China does what China wants and that's why it's one of my favourite countries in the world.
