The BEST Lift Kit & Wheels + Tires for our 2024 Jeep Wrangler 392
Today we’re excited to unveil the impressive lift kit and wheel and tire setup we've chosen for our 2024 Rubicon 392! After extensive research and careful consideration of future plans, we settled on outfitting our Jeep with a top-of-the-line 3.5-inch Clayton Off-Road Overland Plus suspension system, augmented by their performance package for enhanced performance and durability. We've also opted for Falcon 3.3 Adjustable shocks and Stabilizer to fine-tune the ride quality to perfection.
When it came to selecting the tire size, we embraced the mantra "Go big or go home." As a result, we've selected the formidable 40x13.5x17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT tires, paired with 17-inch Grenade Crawl Beadlocks boasting 3.5 inches of backspacing. This combination not only offers ample ground clearance but also features massive 40-inch tires, ideal for conquering challenging terrains with ease.
We have a lot planned for this Jeep coming up! We’d like to give a huge shoutout to Joe and his team at Locked and Loaded 4x4 as well as Ben from B&M Off-Road.

I did this 2 years ago with my diesel wrangler. Went with a 3 1/2 inch Clayton lift kit along with Tera flex 2.2 shocks.
40s rubbed a lot in so many different off road situations. I had to go back down 37 inch tires. I truly wanted the 40s to work. Started getting complicated with reliability, practicality, headaches with steering issues.
Ride quality was not there and playing engineer can get costly
Even with the 37 inch tire I still rub on occasion while off roaming in the sand or while running thru the woods in Appalachian Trails in Virginia
Definitely a lot of trimming to do, we’ll outline all we do to see if it works out!
Thanks for sharing‼️
Now we need to see both of your jeeps sitting next to each other, so we can get an idea of the difference in hight. Hope you enjoy your ride‼️

Thanks for the idea!
40's on a 392 is just sick!💪
Awesome! Love it..
Thanks Clifford!
Absolutely stunning!! Came out great, I look forward to seeing what’s next!
The KMC Grenade wheels look like they were made for the 392! Keep up the great work.
Wow that Jeeps a huge investment, but I can't wait to see what you do for the spare now. Its fun having the little spare on the back now. :)
I just did the Rubicon Trail with 37s on my 392. Running 40s on a trail like would add so much more stress to the components and me. There is no tow truck service or cell service if you break something. Maybe you don’t plan on wheeling that hard. I’m sure you have bigger plans being a RUclipsr. Haha
Going to dive deeper into what all is needed to make this jeep perform clean out on the trail, that’s why we went this size
Wow, y’all really got that dialed in. That’s a dope look ! Nice choice on the rims. See ya in 43 days … 🤟
With 40s on stock axles you’re going to need a set of RCVs
We’ll have to wait and see!
If you really wheel it, RCVs aren’t gonna help you. lol.
I'm on a budget so I used Busch spacers, that's 4 Busch cans smashed down to 2 inches installed 😁 Get'r done🤪
40’s are too big…just my opinion.
Respect your opinion!
@@DIRTROADCRED don’t get me wrong. It looks bad ass! I’m thinking of it more functionality..
38"s would've been just perfect, imo but I'm glad you're happy with your investment. Don't let your wife hear that comment about you pushing the corners tho'. Lol.. 👍
If he isn’t daily driving, it will be fine.
Yeah just looks too big for sure
Hi Matt, I went into my Webster’s dictionary to look up the word “perfection” but all it shows is a picture of your Jeep! ❤
I love this hahahaha
That’s a big, my wife already complains about 33 but I’lol try to do 37 😂😂
Love your setup and how it’s coming together
Good luck!
Love Joe that dude did my first wrangler and it was SOLID
He’s a great guy!
What's up Bret. Hope life has been treating you well brotha. Good to hear for yah.
I had 40 on our jk for 2 months then went to 37s great to look at but it got old living with…. Awesome looking rig though you’ll love it!
That is the best color they have ever done. It is just gorgeous and the 392 sets it off even more. Looks amazing Congrats! Still call dibs on the body color top if you take your Dad’s black hardtop. Just gonna remind you now and then. 😬
Been watching since the beginning but first time commenting…keep up the great work guys! Love the creativity, dynamic builds, and authenticity.
Wow. Looks awesome. I think those wheels are the right ones.
Thanks for the great content!
I have a 2022 JL 392 XR, bone stock. Thinking of making some changes to improve the ride, steering, and the look.
Any recommendations for shops in the NYC area that can do this work and install these parts / customize Jeeps?
Also, what are your thoughts on the PSC Cylinder Assist Steering Kit vs. what you had installed? Truth is, I would like to change out the factory tie rod on my 392….inch definitely want to improve the steering on it.
I still can’t get over the color…looks unbelievable.
Just wait til you see it cleaned up in the sunlight!
Fender chop and then it’ll be perfect IMO 👍🏻 always been my favorite look. It’s looking great so far!
I have 38’s. Nitto Trail Grapplers. My Gladiator Rubicon has a 3.5” Clayton Overland lift kit. The peak of my soft top comes in at 6’10”. My sweet spot as most garages at airport and in the city have a max height of 7 feet.
LOL gunna be close!
I have a 392 on a 3.5” Teraflex lift with 37” Mickey Thompsons. It does fine on 8 and 9 rated trails, but the 40’s would keep it from touching the rocks on metal a little more. The group I wheel with is almost all on 40’s and tons, but for now with stock axles and gearing on 37’s it does great. They say the new Dana 44’s are strong enough to handle 40’s so let us know how it goes.
Love it. Fender chop and some aftermarket fender liners will fix a lot of any rubbing you might have.
Looks killer, great wheel choice, let’s see you try that wheel and tire swap with Ryan now😅
Looks great!! I think the old tires and rims would be a great giveaway!!?
Looks good, but it never stops. Now you'll need the RSE steps for the family and a tire carrier now lol
New sub and really enjoying the videos. Also I'm a fellow RUclipsr so it's nice to see that random people in the comments section thinking they know better than you aren't just in the running shoe space 😂 keep up the good work man. Love the energy and insights 💪🏽
Lol...i remember when this jeep was bought for safety reasosns. 😅 congrats on the build and great video
😂
What’s the offset and the backspacing on your KMC grenades ? looks amazing 👍🏻
Wow… just spectacular, y’all!
Also, I’m convinced it’s for safety. In fact, you’re always admonished to “rise above” an argument, so, why not rise above an accident. Much safer to drive over something than to crash into it.
Any chance you’re going to have a contest for the takeoff wheel and tire package soon? I know a white 2023 Gladiator that would look “choice” with that package.
40’s on a 392 sounds awesome but after seeing it I’m left wondering why you didn’t go to a bigger lift for more clearance? Those wheel are going to take some maintenance to keep clean. Was hoping you went gold/black to compliment the blue color. Either way-excited to see where you take it. Joe will be doing my lift. I already had B&M set me up with 35’s.
Awesome upgrade ❤
Bro the color is such a gemstone 😅 I did 38” on mine an am pretty happy with them
Only cuz I like my gas mileage
But even the 38” milestars are pushin the limits with the axels
I like to speed through the desert an stuff is breaking slowly lol
I gave you flack on the last build video (axles), so this time I'll just say ... That looks pretty sweet. I do like the stock 392 wheels though. And I won't say ANYTHING with regards to the 40's. Hahahaha For the spare, do a reinforcement to show folks options ... The folks with a family that need that cargo space when everyone goes with them and can't be having a spare take up that space ... Or bouncing around in there.
Been watching for a few years. Great content. Would love to see more wheelin since both of you now have good setups. Did you replace the front driveshaft with the lift? Didn’t see it in the video? Also would be a good video showing how to re-program the speedo with the bigger tires. How much of a difference there is and how certain apps like Waze calibrates to your speedo so it’s not accurate. Just had this happen to me when I upgraded to 35’s. Also a good/funny video would be to see how the daily commute and wife’s reactions are now with it being lifted😂. Keep up the good content.
Love this channel!
Thank you! Comments like this mean a lot to us, today’s video brought some negativity out of nowhere and lots of folks just have nothing better to do than complain, appreciate you!
Love the video - It has inspired me to do a lift on my 392. I am trying to find an installer in the Clayton NC area. I don't have the space to do the upgrade and all the tools needed to do the cutting - fab work. Anyone with recommendations on a shop in my area?
Do you think the axles are gonna hold up to the 40s? What's the weight of each wheel/tire? Plans for the spare?
Have a spare ready to install, pretty heavy on each corner!
GREAT LOOKING 392! I WONDER IF REGEAR IS NEEDED!!! WELL DONE!
Thank you! Not too bad the past month!
How is the 2024 Bikini Blue Jeep holding out with the 40" Mickey Thompsons? Im thinking about going that route myself. I have a 2016 JK with 37" built up nice but this is the last of the 392's and I dont want to miss out. I need another Jeep like I need another hole in my head but...
Would have looked killer with the bronze wheels and 37s.
Good set up for sure, wheels are a hard pick and that’s why they have so many options!
matt, i used to live in pa. how will that pass pa inspection? don't think you can have tires extend from fender that much.? just curious
Nice jeep! I just put 37's on my 392, no lift and it's perfect. No rubbing so far, if I get some rubbing offroad, I have the AAL inner fender delete kit I've yet to install that'll take care of it. It's really a perfect match no lift and 37's. I bought 38's for my 2 door jk tho haha. I'd prob run 40's on a gladiator bc it's so damn long, thats what it takes to look right imo
Those are monsters! You thinking about getting new brakes next to be able to stop those bad boys??
I like the mickey thompson Mud Terrains. Just wondering why you chose them over the other brands and how are they on road/highway?
Sold my 2022 392 for 2023 trx havoc edition. Miss my jeep.
The Jeep looks great. Thanks, Matt and Ryan for the love on my Jeep. You were correct it is Billet Silver
Thanks again!
Looks fantastic!!! Your choice in wheels are spot on.
Thanks! 👍
Curious what caster you ended up settling on? With no FAD I’m assuming 5 ish degrees, but just curious.
If you are coming to Jeep Beach again this year, would love to buy your 392's take offs for my wife's 2024 2 door if you haven't already sold them.
It looks amazing ❤
Are you able to mount the spare without a tire carrier? I have the Rubicon X with 35’s with the reinforce carrier option and want to run 37’s. Not sure if the mopar reinforcement can handle that.
Looks good but how much did that hinder its performance. Love the push of the 392 so not sure I could do this to my own.
Nice build!
So will you be able to get the car seats and your kids into the Jeep at this height? …. Just curious as a fellow dad who sometimes struggles with a standard height :)
Looking forward to seeing what’s next.
I've been using the line about the 24's being safer to my wife as well! lol
Better get those fenders chopped before we go to Easter jeep safari. Lol. Looks sweet!!!!!
lol you’re right about that!
What backspace are you running on the KMC wheels...3.50"?
Wow that’s big! Love it!
I know the back is full float now on the 24's but if you are taking it in the rocks it's only a matter of time before you break an axle or ring gear. I wheel with a couple friends on 40's with 392's and Penta's and all broke axles before going to full float 60's. Hope they hold up for you, weight is a big factor I am keeping my 392 as light as possible and 37's until I can afford new axles at some point.
Any where I can see Ryan’s setup with the 35’s?
37s would have been more than enough for anything you could need. Not to mention saving tons of weight and stress on the whole drive train.
I was wondering what Jeep was thinking by removing the Willys Sport version of the wrangler, was really hoping to get my hands on one.
40's look massive. 😳
Yes they do!
I dont think a lot of people realize how much power the 392 has....pushing the 40s will be nothing for this Jeep. The lift kit you installed with everything should make the ride quality exceptional...the AWD system in the 392 keeps it planted. Should be lot of fun to drive..Hope to meet you at Daytona Jeep beach week...
Could you please measure the height of the jeep (with hardtop on)? Considering doing a similar build on my 392 and want to see if it fits in the garage.
I'd have stopped at 37's for what you have, but it's not mine so you do you.
Will the JL Dana 44 handle 40s? Wondering bc I want to go 40s but can’t get a solid answer if the 44s will handle them or not.
Bad ass. Sick AF guys. Hope to see you at a show this year!
37” is fine!!!!!
37 is the way , there is another person on RUclips that did try 38s and started having issues with front CVD axles that the 392 is running, bigger is not always better. The 40s look way to big on it 😮
Just wait, we have more in mind for this build!
Haha I figured it's going to get more updates..one ton axles 😉@@DIRTROADCRED
A number of folks doing a 3.5" lift on the 392 have experienced some driveline vibration despite trying a few different driveshafts (like Adams or Woods). Have you had any noticed vibration after the lift?
The vib thing is real and so many JL owners don't know or understand what it is because it doesn't present itself like in the old day of the YJ's and TJ's where it was a well defined loud growl - vibration. Lift (with an after market double cardan upgraded drive shaft) means pointing the pinion at the T case which means lower Castor (like in the 4.6 to 4.8 range) and shops are telling folks that's bad so they keep the castor higher and the customer thinks that slight purr at 45-50mph is their new mud tires they just installed. I ended up with 4.8 castor on my JLU (on 4.5 inches, 38's, and JL ultimate D44 front axle) and it drives just fine. Unfortunately I have a very minor purr at 50 but's it's because the Ultimate 44 axle can't be ordered with additional castor built in so I just had to run it as is. My drive line angle still needs about 2 more degrees but I'll have to cut and turn the inner C's and right now it's not bad and handles just fine.
Nothing yet!
@@DIRTROADCRED please post something if you notice it.
I paused just before the flex test, and I'm going to say it's going to rub.
A forklift test is not an offroad test. It'll rub more offroad.
Just an initial test to look at bump and where its rubbing so we can begin the mods
Awesome!
Looking at the Mickey Baja boss. I'm leaning towards the A/T's. Because of the 3peak certs.
Both are great!
@@DIRTROADCREDIt's funny, your in PA getting M/T's with all the snow. I live in southern AZ and I'm probably getting the A/T's. I've been in snow with M/T''s and there not that great.
Looks sick!!!💥 . Wish I can run 40s but got xr 3.6 . 40s need a v8.
Definitely helps with the power!
Plenty of hard wheeling and experienced JL owners wheel with the 3.6l and 40s. 40s don’t need a v8, they need 1 ton axles with proper gearing. Wayalife has a built gladiator on 42s with the 3.6. Watch his channel. Casey Currie has a few JLs and JTs, many running 3.6l.
Holy crap, huge! Great vid. Another Q, what brand of rails are you using?
Just running stock rubicon rails for now!
What about Ryan's rails?@@DIRTROADCRED
Congrats! I’m also going 40 on stock axles. So I’ll be curious of your experience and next upgrades. But definitely check out American Adventure Lab’s new High Line fender chop 2.0 and quick release liners if you want the best and USA made. AAL is top of the line aka “Jeep jewelry” 🤩🙏🏼👊🏼🤙🏼
Definitely lots to come in terms of trimming different areas!
When are the 1 tons going in?
Hmmmmm
@@DIRTROADCRED I know it’s going to happen. Just surprised it didn’t prior to the lift and 40’s. Stock axles and gearing aren’t built for 40’s. Look forward to seeing that upgrade.
Did that bracket just unbolt or did u have to do some cutting?
Little bit of cutting too!
What are you doing with your 35's?
I dont know how much wheeling you plan to do or how hardcore you'll get with it but I wouldnt be as worried about the axles as most people say. I have a XR 3.6L so i dont know much about the 392s but im assuming they have the same HD axles. Ive had 40's on mine since about 500 miles on the odometer and I daily drive it just fine. Ive wheeled in AL, OK, TX, AR, CO, and UT. Ive never trailered it. Drove the whole way to CO from NE TX (15-16 hrs) and wheeled almost every badge trail there and as soon as i got off Imogene in Tulleride drove it straight to Moab. I did every badge trail there except Elephant Hill (didnt have the time). Drove it all the way back with no issues. No upgrades or changes to the axles whatsoever other than 5.13 gears. Im not saying theyre as good as 1 tons but theyre definitely stronger than most give them credit for. Or, hell, maybe im just a lucky SOB. Either way, sick ass Jeep. Enjoy
Dirt Road Cred should buy a mini truck and add a life kit and tires and let the 392 crush it with the massive 40 inch tires.
Do you go to jeepin the coast? It’s on the gulf coast Ms
Did you get a new driveshaft?
Looks sick! Looking forward to seeing it on the trail and at Jeep Beach. Curious if you replaced the drive shaft, especially the front. My brother with a 392 and the same size lift and 37s just had to replace his stock drive shaft. What are your plans for the spare?
Not yet!
Did you keep the original spare? How does it work if you ever have to swap it in?
Got a spare 40 just need to mount it up! Video coming soon!
What is that factory bracket there for anyway? The one you took off to clear the 40’s
It’s a roll over mitigation bracket, only started in late 2022
Would you discuss steering stabilizers
Good future video idea!
You said 40s throughout the video and the. 43s at the end. Which is it?
lol they are 40s , merged my words together by accident at the end
Just curious
Looks great. I have a red 2024 392 and put the rebel off-road recon kit with road armor fenders on 40 Yokohamas
Turning those off road with out Hydro is going to tax that steering system pretty hard. I tried it on my 392. Pain in the rear. Jeep looks solid 👍🏻
Looking to figure that out as we build it!
I get it man, one upgrade at a time. Oh by the way the 40’s are for sure a “safety” upgrade 😆. Sick 392 brother
Looks nice. Large rubber makes it look beefy. When I regeared I changed the ball joints to dynatrac and put in rcv. Since you have to gut the axles it just made sense. I am firm greasing them at 3k and they are messy but I wheel the jeep harder than most. Love that lift though it’s smartly equipped.
So all in, lift, tires, wheels and labor what are we talking about cost wise?
I would probably put it in the 10-12k range depending on some of the options
I was about to go 4.5 on my JL .. but now I’m thinking 3.5 is more than enough
Definitely have to do some trimming, but we will work it out!
Oh WOW 😂 that’s proper NUTS. Balls of steel my friend.
Thanks for watching!
The regualr 392 with 35 inch tires gets around 11.5 or so MPG. What does this one get with the 40 inch tires? Has to be under 11.
Why is there a Camry front frame with a chunk cut out in the shop?
They are a full service shop at B&M Auto Repair, meaning they have other makes and models in to repair, they do specialize in jeeps and trucks
Wow- that is sick! You surprised us on this one! Nice wheels!
Thanks! 👍
Honestly, 38”s would’ve been better. This is leaning on the side of comical. The lift and shocks are a fantastic idea but I would definitely switch out the 40”s for 38”s…. Something tells me you’ll hate the 40”s on the highway
Iv got a 22 392 on 40s and I drove it all over the country. Down the highway at 80. Built properly 40s are great. If you ever in Ohio your welcome to drive mine.
I’ve had a few jeeps in the past on 40’s this is not new to me, however I’ve driven it a hundred or so miles and its just fine on the highway
In my opinion it’s sexy, good looking and it’s called big jeep for a reason
Where you putting that 40” spare tire ? 😮
