Metaphorically, the lighter represents gas lighters in a toxic relationship, making themselves out to be the victim, pushing blame, then convincing their victim they were at fault & leaving them feeling like they still need them in the end, like how the guy still reached out for her before his death/ko.

I'm sure u didn't pick up on the gaslighting in the animation cuz u got the incomplete definition of gaslighting. In full, gaslight is defined as a form of psychological abuse in which the abuser twists, omits and/or makes-up information to make the victim question their perception, memory and sanity in a way that works *in the abuser's favor* . El twisted the facts to place her in the role of a victim that doesn't exist by making up opinions he [didn't] had in the guise of accusative questions, to make him think he was to blame for her actions when she's the one who's toxic. TL;DR she did do gaslight to him, he said "I break, need sort myself out" and she went "NO U! I'm victim! Me misbehave is ur fault!". Now, are we done with this? - But I want to-- - * hits the table acting mad and then leaves as if he was the one wronged (not ever addressing the issue) * ...or something alike this. If you watch the movie Gaslight the term comes from, it's a lot more obvious. Anyways, I mentioned it because often the word is misused to refer to any kind of toxic relationship, and gaslighting is a major psychological long-term trauma that comes from someone actively trying to alter how you perceive things in their favour. A cheating husband or wife calling their spouse paranoid are better examples of gaslighters. Or a dismissive parent. The one in the animation is an example of a trauma-inducing encounter with an entitled derranged hysteric person. But at least when I watched it, it felt to me like it was missing all the key elements to be gaslighting. The fire gal is not disregarding what the guy says enough to be it, for one thing. She's playing victim but there isn't an ongoing attempt at altering what he perceives as true. I still liked the short. It doesn't need to go that dark.
One thing that caught me off guard was the plastic bottle sound. a glass bottle from the lighters height wouldn’t brake. All in all really good story telling and character acting.
The awkward moment when you basically share a name with the lighter- Any terrible jokes I can make aside, this is was really good! Humorous, yet disturbing and a very realistic feel of how actual gaslighting is
Quitting smoking is an honorable path to take. A lighter can be used for a lot more then lighting a cigarette. If only they knew that, then he would not have gotten himself burned.
Well there’s one thing that can solve this problem.. TURN OFF THE LIGHTER! Nlg this is slaying so much but the line” maybe all I CAN do is smoke.. but I’m damn good at it.” SLAYING, ITS SLAYING
I loved that, it was a perfect mix of comedy (I love puns so a big win there) plus great style and movement! Really funny, especially the dark humour. 😂
Man, this is literally gaslighting itself. I mean for what I know there are 02 reactions gaslighters give when you break or cut all ties with them. 01: "The after all that I've done for you" reaction: Like Mother Gothel and many more, they'll use words like after everything I've done this is how you treat me? in public or private to make the victim feel ashamed and think the gaslighters look like some safe haven, even though they're evil. 02: "The what have I done to you" reaction: El is a new case, she is like "am I not good enough for you" and yes, they do this for the victim to have pity on them by pushing the blame on them. And I also noticed she doesn't care about what smoking does to him or the harmful physical and mental effects, she only cares about benefitting herself like her line "Do what's best for you and ditch me here" and "I get it, You think I'm trash". This film shows gaslighting, toxicness and addiction in a whole different level now. But words aside, El is kinda cute, I like her design, though she gives Ember from the movie Elemental vibes. Nice melody especially the violin when El goes mad. Love it. Reminds of Fuelled for some reason. Anyways, that's all my idiotic brain could say, Thanks.
I just come back now and then to watch it over and over again. I love how expressive and wonderfully sassy the lighter is! You just can't keep your eyes off of her! Wait... Does that mean I'm now addicted?
Good short films always deliver suprisingly strong characterization in such a short time. I know a short film is good when I want to see more of the characters, yet also feel like the snapshot I saw has perfect poetic unity that would be ruined by anything else added or taken away. That's how I feel about this film too.
honestly this is the second best "anti smoking" media ive ever seen the first being the GODLY and also tragic "smoke em out struggle" from FNF basically conveying the same message as this short but mostly threw music and frames.
"do what's best for you and just ditch me here" wow, it's like El knew smoking was bad for Ryan, yet she still wanted him to continue smoking, she honestly doesn't care about his well being, which is why she said "Do what's best for you" only to make him feel bad. And to try to manipulate him. This short is about manipulation.

- Why aren't you taking this seriously?
- You'll have your little play time and come crawling back. You should spare yourself the embarrassment and ask me to forgive you now. Have some self respect.
- I'm not happy with you.
-... Oh? Alright, go ahead. You know nobody else is going to put up with your little scenes. And think about somebody other than yourself. Are you really going to embarrass me like this? Think with your head. Do you think anybody is going to love you like I do? Someday you'll figure out you should feel lucky you got someone like me. Now, are we done with this?
- But I want to--

Not the flame hair twist 😭💀🙏 2:05
Dang, that took gaslight, gatekeep, and girlboss to a new level.
Chainsawman:
One thing that caught me off guard was the plastic bottle sound. a glass bottle from the lighters height wouldn’t brake. All in all really good story telling and character acting.
I love how this perfectly protrays addiction and abuse and this short animation managed to capture that in a single short film
“ARE YOU CHEATING ON ME WITH A JUUL?!!” I’m sorry that had me laughing so hard😂😂
The awkward moment when you basically share a name with the lighter-
Any terrible jokes I can make aside, this is was really good! Humorous, yet disturbing and a very realistic feel of how actual gaslighting is
There's nothing dangerous that a Gaslight scorned.
2:06 💅SLaY QuEEn💅

i need her so bad
I do to
“ARE YOU CHEATING ON ME WITH A JUUL?!?” That got me rollin’

Quitting smoking is an honorable path to take. A lighter can be used for a lot more then lighting a cigarette. If only they knew that, then he would not have gotten himself burned.
Well there’s one thing that can solve this problem.. TURN OFF THE LIGHTER! Nlg this is slaying so much but the line” maybe all I CAN do is smoke.. but I’m damn good at it.” SLAYING, ITS SLAYING
“ARE YOU CHEATING ON ME WITH A JUUL?”
What a line.
What the? There'no juue! Hahaha
The cinemas should use this short before showing it would be great.
I loved that, it was a perfect mix of comedy (I love puns so a big win there) plus great style and movement! Really funny, especially the dark humour. 😂
“Are you cheating on me with a JUUL?”
Lost it 💀😂
The voiceacting here is insanely good!
Just Remaking El & Other Characters Into a New Live Action\Animated Movie Called Ghost Town
You should definitely check out Evan Wang and Paul Cartwright!
1:20 heh, i get It
I just come back now and then to watch it over and over again. I love how expressive and wonderfully sassy the lighter is! You just can't keep your eyes off of her!
Wait...
Does that mean I'm now addicted?
“Some people just can’t quit” looks like it won’t stop either.
AMAZING anamation! From the concept to the execution, congratioations!!!!
Estas bromeando verdad ? Este es el mejor corto que e visto hasta el momento 🤩🤩 realemente impresionante todo lo que quiere mostrar 10 /10
It’s the legend himself
Everyone is being super deep and analytical and I'm just like the fire make me feel funny in my pants.
Folks just can't appreciate the refinement of a cute lighter gf
I can't imagine why 0:25 is the most replayed section
Hmm wonder why
Good short films always deliver suprisingly strong characterization in such a short time. I know a short film is good when I want to see more of the characters, yet also feel like the snapshot I saw has perfect poetic unity that would be ruined by anything else added or taken away. That's how I feel about this film too.
*Wow, their relationship just got burned!!!*
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
When one of the creators is bored she looks for good fire puns in the comment section. She gives you 4.7/5, very good.
Pixar: Lemme copy this guy.
damn this just shows how dangerous being in a relationship with the wrong people can be
they try and break you for simply wanting to improve yourself
Putting it comically how dangerous smoking is and how hard it can be sometimes be to stop..
honestly this is the second best "anti smoking" media ive ever seen the first being the GODLY and also tragic "smoke em out struggle" from FNF basically conveying the same message as this short but mostly threw music and frames.
The character design for the lighter is adorable.
Never ever mess with jealous lighter...
that is the cutest flame character I've ever seen. shawty lit. 🔥
This remake of Elemental is surprisingly good.
3:00 ok these william afton redesings are getting ridiculous
0:51 Bro is making the right choice 😎
Fr :D
But what the hell was this 💀 0:35
Remember kids don't break up with your ex when you're around things that can kill you.
Awesome story! Only thing relatable was how nuts and crazy that woman was to the dude. She was toxic, just like some relationships are. Reminds me of a couple of women I've dated. They love Gaslighting.
Mah dude, I think u either should give urself more time to know a person, find new people in different circles or broaden ur type, cuz however is it u engage in these relationships, wherever u find them or whoever u define as a 'good partner' prolly ain't producing good results for u.
@@IMayOrMayHaveNot which is why you drop them and move on.
Funny how that was what you took away from the video
@@sad-womeninthehouse4249 nothing funny about the video. It's a straightforward story
stereotyping women isnt the way to fix ur problems🤨
"are you cheating on me with a Jule?" Most creative line ever.
Remember kids, NEVER play with fire.
Whoa! What did I just watch! Incredible thought! Dialogues! Animation! Couldn't take my eyes off type of drama! Just 🔥
Thank you! We're glad you love it! Stay spicy!🔥
This was incredibly clever. I haven't seen Elemental yet, but I'm fairly certain it won't be as creative and multilayered as this was.
The puns 😭 I live it
This is the second animated short film involving a gas station explosion I've watched today
Was it the one with the cat

"Some people just can't quit"
Is so true now because sometimes when people say they're gonna quit but hey can't stop no matter their health or if other try to help them so they keep making bad decisions
... keys... For a extinguisher...
Dumpass actually deserves that lighter.
We agree
A picture of narcissistic relationship. Once you say no/refuse/leave the narc, the narc will put out his/her narcissistic rage, and he/she will never stop. The lighter is the narc.
ah yes, good old ableism, we love to see it :)
Jesus the setting and everything to this short....I'm surpirsed this was made back in 2021!
2:05 hair toss be like: whoosh!
This is perfect gaslighting example!
A lighter can still be used for multiple purposes and can be a life savor if you are ever stranded and cant start a fire by hand.
Don’t play with fire or fire will play with you!🔥❤️🔥🔥👌
I'd never thought that i would ever bang a lighter in my life, this is crazy 😂
Sir, please, we don't want another explosion.
Lmao
Comments like this make me question my sanity
@@aliciallama2246 seems relatable.
2:29, the violin is just drama
1:36 that sound was spot on which is why i hate it so much😭😬😶🌫️
are just going to ignore the fact that a flame from a lighter was sexualized, and they did such an amazing job doing it.
We don't know how to feel about that but thank you.
dude really down bad for a fucking lighter
i am not ignoring that fact, i... think i might have a problem, in fact
