My humor's been twisted a lot so like whatever slapback comes into my mind is very intrusive and dark. Playing light of murder and stuff. Or it's just another form of dad joke that is not "haha" funny-- probably close to nerd joke, if there really is something. Like it's punny, does a lot of word plays-- switching between languages AND PRETTY LONG-WINDED. I'm kinda jealous with my mom since she comes up with odd, mixed dark humor that actually slaps. Like, last time we went to buy fish and she was chatting with the vendor. Mom was trying to bargain a bit, and the man said: "Nah ma'am, can get lower than that-- these are the freshest!" And she went like, "Oh, so these died in the pale?" She obviously was joking with the question, but the delivery was so perfect I chuckled whenever I remembered it. The vendor was laughing his eyes off so much that the manager stepped in to help out since he's busy dying from the joke. Welp, being unfunny is the consequence to my ultra-long phase
maybe try throwing whatever jokes at the wall to see what sticks (barring insensitive or legitimately offensive, obviously.) and then refining them based on what gets the most laughs. 911 joke gets a ton of laughs? ask why, then use those kinda jokes for the right scenario. being comedic is really about knowing your audience, and i think your mom either sensed it on that guy, or got lucky with whom she was dealing with.
