This is such a pop culture moment for me that I literally remember where I was and who I was with when I watched this live on ABC. Did you watch it live back in November 1999?
Also…at 11:28 there is an audio error and I do apologize. I had to recut this video 18 times to pass copyright and somehow that audio timing change happened and I missed it.

I remember watching this as it aired; such a cool episode. I thought at first, how ya gonna milk 20+ minutes out of this story?!? But you killed it, thanks for the great Gen X content!

Nearly 25 years later and it is still one of the most talked about moments in game show history!

    Great video as always!
The show was pretty big in Russia as well in 2000s.
I started watching SNL twice a week while exercising, by now I'm in season 25. It so happens that last week I watched that episode with John Carpenter, and looks like I didn't get the full context of the skit, but it was fun nonetheless.

Actually, he didn't really risk $500K. He would have risked $468K and dropped to $32K.

@gameshowguy2000 yeah man your right.. I think to him, the whole last question was a big joke where he knew the answer, but Regis tricked him into thinking he didn't. That was the joke.

Agreed. I have just started and I use my phone to make videos. My goal is to buy some actual equipment in the next couple of months to increase video quality. Thanks for the feedback!

@@mysocalledgenxlifeUmmm... IF that were the case, there would have been an investigation JUST like the quiz show scandals of the FIFTIES, which YOU mentioned.

Way too long, just get to the main story already. Holy boring. Had to skip to the end.

I think the video is a riff on the popular Rewind sports videos.

Buddy, the video is also an opportunity to talk about the historical contexts that led to this television moment. Context is important. History doesn’t happen in a vacuum.
