Towards the end of this clip, the man in Green t-shirt is calling you a ‘good friend’, he’s probably trying to be friendly, albeit it appears he’s a little eccentric, these are people who have missed out a lot in live and we should show some niceties towards them. I like how you acknowledged him.😊
The Vietnamese food, dumplings and fish ball noodles are not exactly what people come to this food centre for. You have missed out the iconic Outram fried kway teow, Cantonese delights, Cray fish hor fun, Granny's pancake and prawn noodles just to name a few.... .
well, the Viet food however is of quite good quality, although not an iconic stall, and you don't need to Q for an hour as well - I guess there isn't a huge population of Viet food aficionado around this area, but I find this stall a hidden gem.
He's already very famous! Got mask commercial too! Chanel 8 Documentary also interviewed him! He upload videos every days because he need income too! 😁😆😂🤣
The Nonya dumplings is definitely great, so is the Cantonese Delight stall which always has a long queue. Many great stalls in Hong Lim. Curry chicken noodles, char kway teow, wanton mee, Ipoh crayfish horfun, laksa, Sotong ball soup on ground floor facing inside is a gem, bak chor mee, bak kut teh etc. The Vietnamese stall is new.
I know this place Its near a shopping mall called chinatown point I am Singaporean by the way I used to eat a lot of slice fish behoon here years ago with my family
@@felixng9846 There were legal disputes between the Michelin BCM (Beach Road) and this relative's stall tapping on the fame. This stall is definitely bigger portion than the miserable portion offered by the Michelin's stall.
Agree with Frances Lam that there’s more to Hong Lim. My first time there I had curry noodles too! However as I’m now a regular office worker who goes there for lunch, I’ll definitely agree that Frances’ recommendations are the usual ones with long queues! I personally love the Hokkien prawn noodles on lvl 1 beside the stairways with large fresh prawns, love love love the peanut butter granny’s pancake, the sweet potato ondeh ondeh and also the Hokkien street Bak Kut Teh on lvl one with the usual gatherings of old folks drinking their tea with the charcoal stoves there. I also love the healthy soups at the back of the first floor booths with lotus root soup. The ribs in the soup is boiled till the soft cartilage is like a chewy gum. So many good food at Hong Lim!
Though It’s a little surprising he called the Nonya Dumpling a dessert because it’s a pork dumpling though it’s usually sweet because of dried winter melon added. It’s wrapped in more like a kind of large bamboo leaf rather than banana...
I used to work in the CBD area and walk to Hong Lim Food Centre to have lunch with colleagues. The crayfish hor fun is superb!! You've got to try it if you haven't done so.
Yup, there are many really nice stalls over there. Try the stall selling Laksa and “Fruit Juice” Mee Siam on the 2nd floor. They are delicious and I believe the stall owner speaks Japanese. It’s famous among Japanese Tourists.
I applaud you for going for the Bazhang stall. Young folks may not know it as well as the more famous Outram char kway teow and both curry noodle stalls etc (there are many great stalls here indeed to try), but among the old folks this bazhang stall is really famous. They sell amazing dumplings and is probably my favourite one in Singapore. Anyhow, the more under-rated gem in Chinatown isn't this, I think. It's probably People's Park hawker centre. It's right outside the MRT station but I hardly see tourists there. It's only locals in the daytime and Chinese migrant workers in the evenings. I really like the ji ji wanton mee on level 2. Probably my favourite wanton mee in singapore. Hope you get the chance to try it some time. Keep making the great videos buddy.
Thanks for sharing the "not so hidden gem", the stalls you patronized are popular and serves good food! When visiting a new food place in Singapore, typical practice is to look for a queue and some "stickers" on the stall. It does not guarantee that the food will be excellent, but the chance of it being good is much higher than the stalls with less business.
That uncle in tank-top was saying that you're Singapore's good friend. I totally agree with him. May I suggest that you visit Ghim Moh Food Center and try the food there. Go there between 11.30am to 1.30pm.
i like your videos because you are authentic. I can also tell you are trying to adapt and learn the singapore culture. It funny to see how you are struggling too. very interesting to see from a local singaporean view point.
Another stall that I would say is well known but kind of underrated is 李强烧腊 next to Ji Ji. For $5 for roast duck rice with additional duck meat, the portion you get is way more generous than what you can get anywhere else! And it tastes fantastic! But be prepared to deal with the 1-man-show owner who can be super grouchy: )
The Bittergourd Fish Soup and the Teochew Porridge are my favorite stalls.......worth trying. Along the row of shophouses on your left @ 0:48, is a Confectionery Shop, selling freshly made tau sau pheah and beh teh saw......both taste yummy with a hot cup of local kopi 😋😋😋
Yes. The bittergourd fish soup is possibly the best in SG. They add lots of fried dace to the soup, to give it more umami. The owner used to share his personal collection of wine with customers sometimes.
I am excited when I visit places with no/less tourist in Japan too! I love to explore off the beaten path! and Yay u finally tried my favourite curry noodles! There is another stall on the first level which people say it's the original. I tried both and personally I cannot really tell the difference. But i prefer the 2nd floor stall cos: less people and 2) I can choose my fave chicken parts. The level one stall auntie was kinda fierce so I didn't dare to request anything
Curry chicken noodle at the ground floor is my favorite stall. Always long queue but it's worth the wait. Teochew porridge right behind the chicken noodle stall is very good too. Clay fish laksa, Ipod clayfish horfun, big prawn noodle and traditional fired fritters on the second level are all good food you can try in your next visit. 😂
The uncle probably talks to u cos u were holding a camera 😆 I can't catch what he said, but only later part he was saying "good friend" in chinese lol.
You should try the bittergourd fish soup, the chicken cutlet noofles at the end of the foodcenter. Curry noodles u got it. The char kway teow is actually so so
MUST TRY 1. Outram Park Fried Kway Teow 2. The wanton noodles at the second floor 3. The crayfish hor fun at the second floor 4. SL2 Muffins 5. Ah Heng curry noodles
There's a stall called Cantonese Delights on the 2nd floor behind Ah Heng that sells wanton mee and chicken chop curry noodles that is very famous. both the curry chicken chop noodles and wanton mee are nice. The other famous stall is Outram Park Char Kway Teow where the queue is always extremely long. Yet another famous noodle stall is Ah Kow Bak Chor Mee.
Curry chicken noodle crayfish horfun are worthy visit to honglim complex because you dont see them everywhere in sg. Also consider it is situated in cbd area the price is not expensive😂
If you come back to Hong Lim/Chinatown Pt, pls try Hai Kee at Chinatown Pt. They moved from Tg Pgr to Eunos and are now back in town. The soya sauce chicken very fragrant & the ginger-chilli paste they provide is totally oishii. Opposite Chinatown Pt/Hong Lim used to be Chiew Kee - one of the best soya sauce chicken places in town too. Dunno whether still around now.
Hi ghib, a good way to improve ur chinese wld be to learn the 4 basic notes or tones of chinese words. Your mandarin is roughly there but the tones are off. The Vietnamese stall is "out of place" amongst all the local food stalls. Doubt it can last long there. Sorry.
My favourite foods in this hawker:
1. Lor mee shown at 3:06
2. Ji Ji wanton noodles
3. Sichuan veggie fish soup
4. SL II muffins
6. Ondeh ondeh!

1. Lor Mee
2. Fish Soup
3. Vegetarian
Jiji wantan mee is probably the closest to a foreign palate haha
Definity must try the ji ji wanton. portion is big
How can you miss the 2 longest queue in Hong Lim Park? It is a sin for not visiting the Outram Park CKT and the BCM just opposite the CKT.

Long queue may not be "good taste". Starting to see trend where stalls purposely slow down just to make their stall appeal with long queues!
Have to see the queue length PLUS the speed of queue movement. Some queues are long but moves fast.
this is very true the hands and legs super slow quite obvious.
Fried fish loh mee and duck rice are nice there...
