Many people say their favorite PTX number is "the last one".... their work is always so meticulous and creative, never mind the stunning vocals. This is however one of my top ten PTX covers. Mitch slapped!
It's a joy to tune in on Mondays, to witness your PTX reactions; I like that you expect to be impressed, but remain so appreciative of how the "surprise" is integrated
Way back when PTX was doing tour BTS videos, there's a snippet of an early arrangement where Scott asks if they can "Beyonce it up", i.e. add another key change. Mitch responds with "Do you realize how high I'll have to go????" Then, "Ok, let's try it and see". Well, we all hear the result. Mitch blows the top off the song in perfect harmony with the rest of the voices. That part still gives me goosebumps after views. Also, due to Disney restrictions, the audio was released about a month before the video. In the audio, i thought Scott sang the entire first verse. The video showed us all that Matt and Scott can switch parts as seamlessly as Mitch and Kirstie do. Amazing all around.

It's amazing how much Matt matched Scott's timbre. If I was just listening I don't know if I would have noticed. We've gotten used to that similarity between Mitch and Kirstin but this is the first time I've seen Matt and Scott match like this.
Yes, many reactors are "rather surprised" when they first get a look at Kirstie in her outfit! Some of the reactions (especially the males) tend to be a little more exaggerated, including one reactor who said, "Can we talk about the elephants in the room?" I think she even got some negative feedback from people who didn't think her dress was "PG" enough for Pentatonix. Personally, I think it's an expression of her self-confidence in herself that she's willing to wear an outfit that doesn't hide her feminine side, and I like it - but I am male, so there's that.... However, she's not in any danger - double-sided tape is an amazing substance! BTW - everyone is dressed to represent a character from the movie (primarily through their color scheme). I believe it's Matt = Timon, Scott = Pumbaa, Mitch = Zazu, Kirstie = Nala, and Kevin = Simba.

Its just a stunning arrangement, isn't it? There is a behind the scenes for this one, if you're interested. I know what you mean about how integral they each are to the overall sound. They managed to thrive post Avi, which had to scare the crap out of them at the time, but at this point I can't wrap my mind around what it would be like if any one of them left the band. I'm thrilled for Scott's success as a solo artist, I loved Kirstie's solo album and hope she'll do more, and I am completely crazy about Mitch's Messer project, but my hope relies heavily on the agreement they made with each other to always prioritize Pentatonix. If nothing else Pentatonix has such a solid catalog of Christmas music, that their winter concerts are now annual traditions for some people, like Trans Siberian Orchestra. I mean to say, that's a pretty great retirement plan, if you think about it! It's like a security blanket for me that whatever outside projects they do, and however much or little music they produce together as a band, we'll be seeing them touring as PTX for decades to come.
At the time of their 10th anniversary, there were a bunch of interviews. Scott said very firmly that there was a "second 10-year plan," so we'll have to hold him to his statement!
You were right that Kirstie was stunning, although when isn't she? She came out big in this one. Big voice. Big hair. Big earrings. Big dress. Big, um, femininity.

A Little Space has 3 versions, so maybe do a slightly longer episode or divide it into 2 parts? The original on the album is audio only. Then a video for the "stripped down" version that's done for the collab with LMNT water to promote something (a fundraiser I think it was?). It's a simple but fun video. Then there's the collab version done with 3 members of Kpop group Ateez. So good, & having 3 featured voices & the 1980s look to the video adds more depth & fun. 🙂
I love this one!!! It has 3 key changes! 🤯 Please listen to the end riff (sort of a slide) of Mitch's second scream - it always gets missed out on the first listen. Probably due to Scott's riff, that he's doing almost at the same moment or the shock you're in, because of this Mitch's scream itself 😂 And I think this riff is pure magic: word "goosebumps" doesn't cover it - I get literall shivers all over my body every time I hear it, even though I know it's coming 😉 ❤❤❤ And as you said - with PTX you can never predict what you'll hear and this is what I love about them so much 🥰

It is so much better than the over-produced original by Kiiara, it's hard to recognize it as the same song. PTX strips it down and in one take mesmerizes with just their raw voices. Mitch does major vocal acrobatics in this one, but each of them shines!
That dress ... so much controversy over the years. Myself I think Kirstin carries it off very well, and I agree about how beautiful she is here! Kevin has never appeared so handsome, and IMO this is one of Mitch's most amazing looks. Also, I love this performance more every time I hear it. _All_ the key changes!
