It's a great feeling, you're fighting against the wheel and fully strapped into the seat at five points. It gets your adrenaline pumping like mad, even when you're not racing with anyone the sheer effort of pushing the car as hard as it will go is extremely intense. To be honest though what I first noticed when I got out on the track was the smell of rubber, asphalt, exhaust... it's something I didn't expect I guess.
Thanks! What's deceiving about the video is how much elevation change there is in the track, I locked up because I over-braked going over the crest of that hill with cold tires, it's a scary corner. And there at the end, I wasn't nearly as close to losing it as it looks. That portion of the track dips down and you get a ton of traction on the exit, so although the back end went out I was able to recover easily once I hit that dip.
My dad has iRacing with a nice sim setup and everything, it's part of the reason I posted good times at Barber despite it being my first time there in a race car (and my first time in a race car, period).
The tiny clip at the end is in my dad's car, which he had custom made to be more competitive at the top of the charts. The one I'm driving is just a rental car.
Thanks! My line is pretty good, although I cringe rewatching it because I botched a couple of corners up a bit. Still, that weekend was my first time in a race car, so I am pretty chuffed.
Wow. Would've never thought you could race. That was a nice job and nice overtakes. Although you locked up slightly on the chicane going over the apex and you damn near almost lost it at the end. But that was badass man.
I've been to Barber to watch the Superbikes and stuff, and it's one of my favorite tracks. I've also wanted to try out to SPEC Miata class as soon as I have the funds or ability. I'm jelly.
SKIPPY i had no idea you race. you literally just jumped up 100 cool points to near top of my list of cool people on youtube. i was also looking for a miata as my first actual self owned car, and wanted to make it a perfect balance of every day/ track car. i'd also love a speced miata for racing.
They are considered part of the track, although some of them are better to avoid because they are raised and they'll screw up the balance of the car, plus they have less traction than the pavement. But yeah, you can drive all over them if you want, and in some places it's hugely advantageous to 'cut' the corner on them.
If this is actually you, you have have natural talent for race driving. You nailed pretty much every apex, bar one, and that was due to another car on the racing line. Actually skeptical whether this was really you at the level of talent of driving there. Nevertheless, grand job.
I think I might hit 100 at the end of the back straight, but it's a very technical track and the average speed is relatively low. These cars aren't made to go fast in a straight line, anyway.
Whoa whoa whoa. You race?! And you are pretty good at it too! But then again I'm not much of a driver so my opinion doesn't really matter. Still, badass.
Alright, so I can be as good as you right? this one time I played Forza Motorsport on hard and only crashed 3 times but LOYO because as long as I rewind I'm good right? gonna steal my brother's Nisson 240SX and hit the tracks now, wish me luck! Thanks Skippy!

Awesome! I went out there to Laguna Seca a few years ago for one of my dad's races. It's a crazy track, maybe one day I'll get to race on it.

That looks like so much fun! Personally I'm more into drifting, but I do love most car related things.
Also, gotta love those miatas. :)
Well I did a lot of accidental drifting this weekend! They are great little cars.

Laguna Seca is really fun! Turn 8 (the corkscrew) is so much fun in the Miata!

I'm in the BMW Motorsports Club. Every once in a while, there's a Pro-Amateur race that pays you to race. Good shit Skippy.
Ahh, now I get. The ABadFeeling video APB - Cops and Cameras was just to throw us off the scent of you being a great driver. Clever you.
Spec Miatas are all momentum. You're right not a lot of straight line speed but we make it up in the corners.
Skippy's The Wheel Man!
Skippy racing makes me need to go back and rewatch "All Points Bulletin - Cops on Cameras".
nice driving. didn't expect a racing vid out of this channel, but i don't mind at all ^^
small 1.6 Litre things; they sound weird mostly because they aren't muffled. The racetrack sounds like a horde of bees when they're out on the track
Damn skippy, that was some nice driving. All that videogame time is being put to good use.
For a second there I was like: "Whoa! Those are some amazing graphics!"
"my first time in a race car"
What have you been doing leading up to this then? This video makes it look like you've been race driving for years, man!
Holly hell Skippy! You're awesome
I hate how slow GoPros make everything look :/ I know you were really rippin it up skippy. Looks sweet! and love the hula girl :D

great video, thank you
That was pretty good driving. Im not sure how good you are at this but that was awesome.
Damn, hes actually a mighty fine racer!
Hell yeah I wanna see more.
Spec Miata? Suddenly I'm reminded of all those years I read Jalopnik.
Skippy, the speed racer
So sick!
Way to go mate, that's badass
The hula girl on the dash is a nice touch :P
I suddenly got the urge to find the nearest track and see what my celica can do.
I know it sounds bad but j was waiting for the car to roll and the little animation and music to come on saying ohh skippy
this is sweet dude! can't wait.
Imfamous Skipples.
Skippy the Speed Demon.
Skippy is better at driving in real-life than in videogames; CONFIRMED.
that was pretty quick

Well you'd love to know he lives there.
(I think. Heard it on one of his livestreams.)
I think I might hit 100 at the end of the back straight, but it's a very technical track and the average speed is relatively low. These cars aren't made to go fast in a straight line, anyway.
feel da powa
Skippy, where did you get that awesome hula girl on the dashboard?! Great driving btw, hope the timed laps go just as well as this!
I'm just countersteering because my back wheels lost traction when I got back on the throttle.
You are awesome :) keep it up
Wait, Skippy's real?! I thought this channel was an elaborate ruse!
damn, skippy,i didn't know you race :O didn't see that one coming
Whoa whoa whoa. You race?!
And you are pretty good at it too! But then again I'm not much of a driver so my opinion doesn't really matter.
Still, badass.
No wonder Skippy is bad at video games. He's phenomenal at driving cars.
You sire, take your corners like a pro.
What game is this?
rFactor 3: High Stakes
Your a pretty good driver. What do you think about racing? Possibly going to more races?
Awesome video Skippy. Maybe you should try to drive the Skip Barber F2000 (affectionately known as the Skippy). Have you ever tried iRacing?
This is unexpected and really, really cool! But... Now all I can think about is the 'Ugly Duckling' incident in APB Reloaded. Sorry.
Hey Skipples, can we see some more of this?
you drive pretty good
what, no flip!?!?
I want more videos of your dad.
Very nice, I've always wanted to have a go at basic level racing but it's just so expensive. How did you get started?
Woah sick bro.
2 fast 2 skippy
Woah, that looked real sweet! Sorry if this has been asked before, but what did it feel like?
skippy why are you so much cooler than me
Skippy I didn't know you like to race? I also race Spec Miatas in California!
wooohoooooo manual!!!!!!
OH GOD, NOT THE BEES
Gotta have the hula girl on the dash! I'm impressed, sir! Did you build the car?
MOREMOREMORE
Birmingham, AL? Shit, I didn't know you'd be in my hometown.
How did you get into this sport, will you try something else along the lines of motorsport? All I know is rally and enduro (along with mx)
So what made you decide to start racing, or why are you racing period?
Skippy when will we get more drive footage?
woo!
slicing corners like mario andretti yo
This teaser was made a very, very, long time ago. When can we see the video :P If we can, then where?
How to drive as good as Skippy?
This is what you learn when criken tries to teamkill you again :)
Exactly how fast did Skippy go? What was your top speed?
radical
Do you plan on going in for racing
Alright, so I can be as good as you right? this one time I played Forza Motorsport on hard and only crashed 3 times but LOYO because as long as I rewind I'm good right? gonna steal my brother's Nisson 240SX and hit the tracks now, wish me luck! Thanks Skippy!
Skippy, have there been any times where you've gone off/spun or traded paint? From what it looks like you're a clean driver.
Pretty cool! How did you get the opportunity to do this? You have family big into racing?
I wish I had a track in my province. I wanna go fast but I can't :(
OMG skippy how long have you been a race car?
I like your taste in Hawaiian bobbly things.
game has pretty good graphics
You just got so much cooler
Reuuurr ~ Criken.
HOW CAN YOU DRIVE SO GOOD HERE BUT SO BADLY IN APB ?!
I still dont understand tha term "Jim Corners" sumbudy wanna esplain/ provide reference to it please?
What kind a car are you driving, if I may ask?
skippy, go drift:)
Haw, Skipper.
