Hard to realise they reused the Jersey Prison set from Triple Cross (1966) for this SS barracks scene, although this movie was shot about a year late, it is head and shoulders above Triple Cross, which I find tedious, over the top, almost comic strip and piss poor on period authenticity, where you see 1960s cars, fashions and mannerisms etc..Night of the Generals is almost flawless, all the sets and scenes look authentic, the men and women dressed in proper early war time 1940s civilian and military clothing, the cars, real Tiger tanks, action and most of all it captures the true darkness of that period, and not the silly, Bond style, trying to be trendy for the times, comic strip crap of Triple Cross.
Regarding "Night of The Generals" Years ago I watched this movie with a ladyfriend and she said she was "Bored to tears but I couldn't keep my eyes off Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif!"
La actuacion de Peter O toole es descomunal , yo creo que es el mejor actor que e visto en mi vida ( tengo 72 años) y logre ver a otros tambien extraordinarios.
@spagandtuna you're right about this movie and for those reasons that this movie was not a block-buster hit despite the fact that it had great actors in the show. the hard-back novel that i'd owned was quite boring to read, and i'd sold it some time ago.
Great amazing movie One my favorites of all time. Does anyone know what's the name of the liquor bottle that came out in the movie it's a brown bottle?
Pity. The character of Oberstleutnant Grau was and excellent officer who's character dedication to duty were above reproach. His death was a tragic loss to the Abwehr (Counter-intelligence, brought in initially in Warsaw because the first murdered prostitute, Marya Kopetskya, was an Abwehr agent.) He should have been decorated, not shot, for bringing to justice one whose actions brought disgrace and dishonor to the German officer corps and worse yet, to the German general officer corps! Moltke
The problem is, he went into the wolve's den alone having the upper hand. Then had the rug pulled from beneath him. After the cue failed he had no advantage and many people were murdered that day for anything if they could blame treason. Grau symbolized the death of that day and how any shred of justice remaining was stamped out for more war.
@vincentyeo88 Well...thanks for assuming that I'm actually a scriptwriter or movie-maker, but I'm not. I watched this thing a second time, and I can't believe that with such a great setting and all of the rich array of subtexts available to these movie makers, that their core story line is a dead balloon. Unbelievable that there were no checks and balances here because there could have been a movie of note instead of this emptiness.
+Lance Goodthrust alas no German actors to play German roles. You had Maximilian Schell for time or two. In a Bridge to Far.... For a Pom he certainly did not do a bad job. I was listening to what they were saying not the accent.
I can't believe the lauditory comments this uninspired drek is receiving here. Sanity must prevail. The production is lavish. The cast is stellar. O'Toole is excellent at catatonia. There is no plot of any value, no mystery, no intrigue, no puzzle to solve. You will only keep watching to see whether your initial reaction to this (that it's crap) is actually correct. It is!!!!

thumb's up!
thank you for the information.
"Real Tiger tanks" Look carefully at 0:24 - That is a M24 Chaffee, an American built tank. The half-tracks are also American M3s.
"not the silly, Bond style" Not all of Bond was "silly", it was really just during the Roger Moore and George Lazenby films.
I just noticed it's the same building.
Sorry those aren't real Tiger tanks because lack of real Tiger tanks they use T-34/85 and Comet tanks as Tiger tanks by chaning they appearance.
An underrated movie!
Actuacion memorable de Peter Otoole
yes, it is a fabulous movie. i'd missed it when it was first screened in a cinema downtown sometime in the late 1960s.
I wish I’d seen it on the big screen.
Sharif is the coolest whermacht officer ever. Good revenge by his french police friend at the end of the movie.

thank you for mentioning that line.
that soldier has forgotten to remove those shoelaces before polishing Tanz's boots.

Omar Sharif was a superb actor that he could act like any personality anywhere, even sitting naked by the lake in the movie Mackenna's Gold.
Excellent work dudes!!!
Whenever I think of someone highly capable, honorable but also somewhat naive.
I think of Major/Colonel Grau.

It´s a good movie. There is only one mistake: The actors don´t fit into their uniforms and reels.....

This was the last film I watched with my grandfather
Never seen this movie. I thought sharif didnt do bad as a German. A great deal better than George Chakiris as a Norwegian in 633 squadron!
"El ganador reescribe la historia a su gusto"
great movie, great clip.

Great film.
Una escena de esa icónica película que es de culto ahora.
How did he go from an army general to an ss general?😮
Good point! They kept the same rank though.
“Everythings going to shit and we’re fucked” the movie
Pretty good movie. I saw it on TCM a few months back. The cast is phenomenal if nothing else, although I do take issue with Omar Sharif as a German.
Je suis making un movie 🎥 about the Warsaw ghetto est Pope John Paul 2. Similar to Schindler's list of
Caught by his red stripe.
Good movie

So there were British who fought with Nazis back then? Hmm, learn something new all the time.
