Honestly Shawn has been living it too. he's been put on the pedestal since he was 15. That was when his debut single released and he was shot to fame instantly(having done youtube covers before that). Shawn hasn't made a "mistake" yet, but thats what this song is about. being in fear of messing up or tripping or falling and having the whole world think of him as a "monster". He's been put on a pedestal where he's supposedly considered above the rest and essentially not a human who can mess up. and shawn is afraid to mess up. He wrote this song about it. and later asked justin to collab on it and justin wrote his verse.
Nah Shawn hasn’t been living it as much as Justin. No one hated on Shawn, the whole world hated Justin and prayed on his downfall

Gunjan Agrawal excuse me? justin was hated since his debut!!! he was 15/16 around that time. his problematic phase was around 2013-2014 and he was like 19/20 when that happened so it’s not true. you could never compare justin to shawn, first of all justin is a person that’s very impulsive and he’s also a superstar from the day he blew up. shawn isn’t on the same level so you can’t compare that

they both wrote about their own experiences with the music business and fame and i just love how they came together for this song, cause as 2 of the biggest artists out there they both have been through a lot

The thing I love the most about the song is the reason why Shawn wanted to do it so much. Shawn had Justin as an Idol and their story mirrors each other. Two scrappy kids from Canada that just wanted to live from music all of the sudden has this overwhelming weight of fame thrown to them at such a young age and Shawn has Justin as a Idol but people begin to scrutinize Justin for the mistakes he made and now Shawn has a similar fame but the fear of happening to him what happened to Justin so he has to keep within which causes anxiety

The amount of things journalists/people have made up about Justin and people still choose to believe and hold it over his head when they’re false are just examples of how evil social media and news websites are and how people will always believe what they wanna believe. He’s made mistakes though and admitted to those. Since Justin debuted no one’s had the global impact And craze he had, also he was the first massive superstar to come from social media and was incredibly bullied by mostly boys and grown ass men since the age of 15 just for being talented and well known but people still expected him to be perfect.

Justin has already made mistakes, but Shawn hasn't (yet?) and that terrifies him. He tries so hard to be perfect all the time that it turns into constant anxiety and paranoia that one day something he does will be taken out of context or he'll make an actual mistake. Shawn isn't too worried about losing face/popularity, he's dealt with haters and read hideous things about himself since he was 15, most of which I would never wish on anyone, much less a child. But at the same time he can't stop worrying about other people's opinions, and if he feels like he's disappointing people, that's really scary for him. He wants to bee good- A good son, a good older brother, a good friend, a good partner, a good role model, but when your life is constantly in the spotlight, it's hard to get a moment to breathe. Shawn is slowly learning to not care that much about what people that don't even know him think of him, but it's taken time, it's taken trial and error. Just as an example, that time when he had to cancel a concert in Brasil because he had an infection on his vocal cords and could NOT perform unless he was willing to risk permanent damage (his voice didn't even sound good, everytime he tried he just sounded in pain, but he still wanted to perform and at least be there), he was so afraid to disappoint his fans that he broke down crying and called his mom who had to tell him that everyone would understand and it wasn't his fault (at the end they understood and went to his hotel to sing from outside, it was a beautiful moment, even if he didn't perform, they were there for him). Shawn is pretty sensitive and sometimes everything can be too much. It's even worse than it would be if he wasn't famous... all the added pressure for so many years (He's just 23 and he's been doing this since he was 14/15), has affected his mental health and that's part of why he's so supportive to mental health organisations and tries so hard to share a positive message with us. He knows what it is like to feel like you're broken and get back up. I've been following since I was 12 years old. Seven years later and after seeing him live in my first concert in december 2019, I know I did a great job choosing my idol.
I loved your reaction and I agree with you and I think they both went through similar things they both blew up at such a young age but the difference is Justin went through scandals and did bad stuff when he was young but Shawn didn’t go through scandals like him and this why in Shawn verse he was talking more about the pressure of being on a pedestal and they tell him how amazing he is and they fill him with confidence but as soon as he make small mistake they tear him down and I’ve seen a lot of thing being said about Shawn on the internet when he makes a small mistake but with Justin verse since he went through scandals and a lot of other stuff he was talking more about owning up to his mistakes and how people seem to never forgive him. I hope to see more of Shawn mendes reactions

This song it feels so real from their perspective and what they've been living. The same industry but different experiences cuz they made different choices in their lives

Shawn wrote this song 4 years ago now with a song called song for no one, which was the musical inspiration for his album when he was going through a really bad time in his life. He literally was on the bathroom floor asking for help ( In My Blood) and as he states in an interview in the Man enough podcast as well, he was drinking scotch like a fish. His identity for some reason has always been in question which is unfortunate and it shouldn’t be. You should check out the live performance of Sing For No one on his Wonder Experience set. He sings I believe 5 or 6 songs and he is simply phenomenal! So much better live. Thank you for the Shawn reactions. Great job!

You should react to Justin Bieber - Angels Speak. It is not quite on the same theme as Monster or Lonely, but his vocals are insane. Unfortunately the song has no video clip and is not that popular, but I guarantee you that it's time worthy.
I believe it's not popular because it was just a bonus track and wasn't promoted much.. but ya it's definitely one of the most beautiful songs from him I've heard.

Can you please checkout Justin's documentary Season's it's in little 15-20 mins if that episodes really sad he talks about how he has really struggled with his mental health he was very sick and didn't know the symptoms of lime disease can seem like depression and anxiety and he was actually put on medication for that he was in a right state poor boy and his wife is so lovely and supportive and you see his wedding and him in the studio creating his changes album and I didn't know just how talented he actually is he plays piano and drums and I can't remember what else but it is Amazing to see him in the studio as someone that suffers with mental health problems I thought it was so important to show people that it doesn't matter how much money or fame you have if you get sick you get sick and he had to overcome so much it is well worth the watch Xx
I love this collab hopefully they do more songs together I been a fan of Justin's since 2009 I am so proud of how far he has came the media definitely has put justin through hell I mean he was a teenager he did everything regular teenagers do but he had cameras recording everything he did we didnt we all know the media loves adding and twisting everything because drama sells the truth doesn't but he proved everyone wrong and came back stronger I am seeing his justice tour tomorrow can't wait💜

I think the song is true about most young artists today, the Media and the music critics build them up but can't wait to cut them down, I am in my 60s and the artists I grew up listening to didn't have the pressure of social media, occasionally you would read something bad in the press about somebody, but so what you still carried on listening to them, in the 60s and 70s a lot of artists were very young, in their teens or early 20s, but the young today even have to listen to their own fans putting them down when they try to change or say the wrong thing and they are "Cancelled" been older it is not easy to say anything or do anything to offend me, so I will carry on liking who I like and not care about their private life or back stories
I hope that as you listen to Bieber's songs, you'll eventually react to his docu-series Seasons.
