  • The New Santa Cruz Megatower 2 C S build (With modifications).
    Here is my New Bike Day (Kind of) video. I decided to spend some time on the bike before making this video to allow me to get to know it and set it up correctly. I've covered approximately 300 miles on the bike so far and it's been a steep learning curve of making small tweaks which make a massive difference. The bike speaks for itself, but I have tried to talk about my experience so far throughout the video. I feel like I'm riding better than ever on this bike and I'm looking forward to progressing further on it.

    Agree with every thing you say mate, I’ve got the 2021 v1 Megatower, mint bike. Uncannily I’ve also got a Hello Dave as well. I’m no good at jumping myself but the Mega does give me confidence to try much larger stuff than i used too. Great video.

    Just one question about the Megatower - it looks like all the spray from the rear tire is going straight into the suspension link? Is that so? If yes - is it difficult to clean it well? How did you manage that?

    • @RubbishBikeVideos
      @RubbishBikeVideos  9 месяцев назад +1

      There's a small guard that comes fitted to keep bits out, but generally it does collect mud around there. I've rode in conditions as bad as it gets and it's never affected performance.
      For cleaning I don't keep mine spotless and it would be fiddly to get to if your wanting to clean it that way, but a click blast with a hose pipe can get most of the mud out of that area easily enough.

    I’m looking at going from a ripmo v2 to a megatower, because I’m looking for a bit more bike. I’m really happy with the way the Ripmo suspension feels with an x2 though. And the setup window is huge. When I was riding easier trails I ran, more normal 30% sag and was happy. I’m currently running 18% sag f&r (and I think max tokens in the rear) and thankfully it still feels really good.
    How does the ride compare to the ripmo? Do you think the setup window is large (I’ve had a bike before that was super constrained, that sucked).
    Thanks!

    • @RubbishBikeVideos
      @RubbishBikeVideos  Год назад +1

      I'm not sure how it would compare, but I did struggle to get this bike set up right to start with as all the recommended were way too harsh. For the stock air shock I had to run a much lower pressure than recommended (but didn't play about with bands in the shock), but switched to cool without giving the air a proper go.
      Now it's set up the bike feels great. It's very good at climbing and pedaling without changing anything, so maybe the comparison would be this can do more without having to change the set up as much as you do with your current bike?

    • @RubbishBikeVideos

      It's the fox bolt on one 👌it goes on nice and neat as it mounts directly to the fork. Not as long as the RRP Proguard but it's nice not having to have all the tie wraps.

    What is the advantage of the coil-over over the air shock, or why do you prefer it?

    • @RubbishBikeVideos
      @RubbishBikeVideos  Год назад +3

      Coil gets rid of all the small bump vibrations you feel with air so everything feels much smoother and your wheel stays planted on the ground because of it, so grip in cornering and climbing really improves too. (+It looks really cool).
      To get technical, the travel on a coil is linear compared to an air shock which is much more progressive, so on a bike with a progressive suspension design like the MT2 the coil works really well as the linkage is what ramps up the resistance, allowing you to have lots of movement for the small bumps but still be able to take bigger hits without bottoming out when you move into the top end of the travel. On a bike with a linear design the coil wouldn't work as you would use too much travel.
      I found with the air shock I needed to run the sag at over 30% to take away the harshness of the rough stuff, so moving further into the travel meant it was already ramped up so I couldnt get it to feel completely smooth. The coil will sit at 30% sag but the travel just feels endless as it moves much more freely.
      Of course the difference between the two depends on getting things set up correctly and a coil is much harder to get right as you need to buy the correct weight spring, rather than being able to just adjust air pressure, but for me I find it hard to switch back now.

    • @RubbishBikeVideos
      @RubbishBikeVideos  Год назад

      Don't know about V1, but V2 with a coil shock and all your gear in the frame storage is as heavy as an ebike... But I suppose you don't buy a 170/170 travel bike and expect it to be light.
      I think these bikes really benefit you having a good level of fitness to pedal them, which is something I need to keep working on 🤣🤣
