He is a cool dude....I met him after a show last year, the first time I ever heard & saw him perform live...and I was greatly impressed! It's his trademark sound. The sound that makes him famous. His tone is not known for being deep and growly like the sound of P-basses so don't expect that from him.
Good idea to build an affordable functional bass that sounds good too. Hats off to Marcus for a great presentation/ review and top notch playing of different styles to show what the bass can do. His sincerity and honesty comes through as well.

In the 70s, there wasn’t a lot of options to get a quality instrument at a decent price (as we know, buying a cheap instrument can lead to bad playing habits that can take years to break). I’ve been playing bass for over 40years and I just purchased a Sire online without even playing one because of all the buzz. I’m excited to see how it sounds compared to my other basses. 👍
I`m ordering a Sire M7 6 string this Tuesday. I owned a John Myung Yamaha siganture bass that cost 1300 euros 20 years ago. Now his Bongo Music Man is around 3000 euros. John Patitucci`s Yamaha TRBJP is around 4000 euros. I also owned a Steve Bailey Fender 6 string which cost 2500 euros ( and wasn`t very good bass). So thank you Marcus Miller for doing the opposite of every other known bass player today.
I had the chance to meet Marcus Miller twice, before and after a concert, once at the Seine Musicale in Paris and once at the Blue Note in New York. I remember 4 years ago this video coming out, 3 years later i saw a burgundy v7 in my local music store, tried it and i was choked at how good it felt and sounded unplugged (always a good sign). I immediately brought it home and i’m always amazed how good this instrument is compared to some vintages basses i own such as Warwick or Yamaha. Thank you Marcus
I have been a Marcus fan since the Lenny White Streamline came out. It was about time I bought a Marcus Miller Bass.I already have the amp.The day before yesterday I got the V7 vintage 2nd gen. I have a bunch of really nice J basses 4 and 5 string ( including a "real" 74 fender) and I feel I can retire all of them. This thing sounds and feels like no other. As if I had been playing it for years. Thank you Marcus!
Marcus, I had a chance to meet you at the Gerald Veasely's 'Bass Boot Camp' in Philly. Thank for being such a personable guy. You took time to take pictures with every one who wanted to take a picture (and there were a lot). Now on to the bass, you are right. This is a bass for most players who want to play. I took it to my tech to have it set up, and he commented on what a good quality bass it was. And this price is still well below what you'd have to pay for a bass of this quality.Thank you for such a good quality bass. Yes I would recommend this bass, easily!!!

Hi I thank God for you Marcus Miller because I learn how to play the bass guitar by studying your music. And I built a five string power bass that you may love totally active bass, a hard ash body , maple and rosewood neck. Keep doing what you do the world needs you your sound is like medicine for your soul.
These basses are going to be collectors items one day, like the really good Japanese Squires. I got a fetless V7, a 4 string V7 and a 5 string M3 and I'm not done yet, the V9 will be mine as well some day. These basses are INSANELY good for the money. And I use them in a band, so I know they do the job! All I pray is that the quality will remain at this level, because sometimes it drops after some time, because of various factors.
This is one of the coolest dudes ever! I own this particular bass, I didn’t know much about it, this has been the best informative video about an artist series instrument.
Marcus, thank you so very much for demoing YOUR bass. Its good when the person who the bass is named for demos it! Because, you know what the bass can do and what all of the controls are meant to do,and you also add some integrity to the instrument. Sometimes musicians have signature instruments and do't even play at all on stage. Yes,you do have a' game changer' in the bass guitar industry. I'm sure other bass makers are trying to do the same thing in making a relativity inexpensive bass. You just showed with your bass that a good bass doesn't have to cost a fortune! Again Thank You a lot for the demo. When I can find one on these bass,I' m certainly going to buy one.
I met Marcus at a bass clinic he was giving at Sweetwater Music in Fort Wayne.....extremely talented, super nice guy. Spoke very fondly of his mom and his Fender Jazz bass she gave him.
The artist makes whats coming out of a bass, but i am impressed what this jazz bass can deliver. What a wide range of different sounds and no effects between bass and amp. I need one before they are out of stock. Marcus Miller is a great musician.
Man, I came by P7 V2 by accident, wasn't planning to buy one. I don't believe there is a bass on the planet better value than this one. It is a serious instrument - beautifully finished, with rolled fretboard edges, great binding, super solid neck. Although there are many controls, it is SO perfectly logically laid out, its really easy to use, and sounds astounding. BUT, its one of the lowest priced basses I have. Many basses here are now gathering dust. It can play modern, and it can do vintage, both REALLY well. You have really done us a favour bro
I"am one of the lucky one"s that got this bass when they first came out V7 4 string at $299 had to wait 2 months for it to come but it was worth the wait. Loved it so much I ordered the V7 5 string at $399.00 10 minutes later it took another 2 months but you have to remember these basses are not hanging around in a store they make them by hand per order so its gonna take a while I have been on the waiting list for over a year for the M3 they were $299 when they first came out all of the prices have went up because of the demand which I knew was gonna happen I told everyone to get one now because there's no way he can continue to sell these great basses at that low price an I think the price is gonna keep going up. I read that he had to hire more people to keep up with the demand so get one now.
A question many Marcus Miller fans are asking: - I already have the Marcus Miller V7 bass, and the Marcus Miller Little Marcus Markbass amp head. Where can I get Marcus Miller panties?
I don't know about his Fender signature bass, but I had the opportunity to compare this Sire V7 with a Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass (both V) that a friend of mine just got. I've got to say that they are extremely similar, the woods (both ash), lacquer, construction, spacing between strings, etc. But it wasn't until when we compared them TONE-wise when we're blown away. The tonal differences were minimal. Although the Fender got a hairline more of low end body, the Sire won on versatility due to the wider range of tone varieties you get out of the mid-range knob. I think my friend is still gutted about the comparison, considering that the Fender is probably £1300 more expensive than mine.
This guy is by far one of the best bassist (bass player) in the world, not just in America. Since the 1980's he's had so many distinctive bass notes incl. credits on movie soundtracks.
love this video, as you said Marcus you've allowed the bass and customers to testify of its quality. I've watched an interview with you before and you've acknowledged your Trinidadian heritage and I'm a Trinidadian and so proud to say that I purchased the Sire M7 and had NO regrets. The tonal range of the Bass is SO amazing and I say hats off to you and Sire for giving us the GAME CHANGER of an instrument. I also appreciate this video because you've showed us the tonal versatility of the Bass and situations where the can be best used. A heartfelt Thanks from a SATISFIED Trinidadian Owner/Customer. I'm considering the V7 but my wife might have a problem with another guitar in the house lol. Thanks again man
Cool, thank's a lot Marcus for demonstrating the use of the tone controls in depth, especially the mid-sweep which I have a much better concept of now.
Thank you Marcus Miller for making this initiative with the affordable pro standard bass idea. I didn't connect with the Jazz Bass when I was younger but as an old codger, pretty much retired, I recognised that there were a couple of tones I didn't have. A Precision tone and a Jazz tone, or range of tones. Well, I got a nice deal on a P bass so that was sorted, so I looked around for a nice Jazz and Hey Presto!! I discover your Sire V7. I love it, all the passive J tones PLUS the active pre-amp.I went alder/rosewood, I don't slap a lot. It's a winner for sure. So thank you Marcus. Both for your plan to get quality basses to young players AND for sorting me out a lovely J bass. If I pick that bass up there's a half hour gone straight away. I can't put it down.
Having an instrument that plays well to a beginner is so important and being able to afford one is also good. This a great partnership and those aspiring bass players could just be the next Jaco or Marcus.
He is awesome - met him at a workshop in Maryland. Also, these Sire bases are awesome. I have a V7 Vintage 4 and 5 string. The quality is incredible for the price - both under 500.
You can't get any better than this man.... The Master Marcus Miller. I have yet to hear a younger bass player play bass as proficient as the old school bass players.... I guess that is why back then they were called "Musicians", today they are called artists... now, its about how you look and the music just went the back seat.
He is a bad dude man, I would give anything to have the skills and understanding of the bass like Marcus does. My buddy Derick Murdock schooled me about him over 20 years ago, I should have stayed with it but you know what, what so wonderful about music, it's never too late to get with it.
I have recently acquired a Sire MM V7 and I am blown away! The pre-amp and pickups are superb. I would compare the build quality and play-ability to that of a Lakland Skyline. In fact, I owned a Lakland Darryl Jones which was a superb instrument (and my favourite jazz bass) ... but I actually prefer the Sire. A huge thumbs up to Marcus and Sire for the ethos and values that underline these excellent basses. Brilliant!
I love these basses. So grateful for the quality Korean made gear at a great price. My 80s Korean Squier precision was one of the best basses I’ve ever owned.
I played an array of bases ranging from $700 - $4000 in a local boutique store. The price wasn't listed on the 5 string Sire. I fell in love with it. Tone...playability....versatility. It's all there. I asked about the price and couldn't believe it was only $750. I wanted to buy it right then, but they wouldn't sell it to me. It was on display only from Sire. It blew away 90% of the bases in there and was easily as good as others that were 5x the price.
I now own one of these basses, and I couldn't be more happy with it. Like Marcus said,it is a well made bass for almost a fraction of what the same Fender bass would cost but (to me) it sounds a lot better. Now that they have become so popular, there is a upper level model being offered with some real nice things going on with it. BTW,you can't find these basses in your local music store. You have to find a dealer. I had to wait 3 months for mine because the dealer had sold out of his first shipment.
Marcus is the effen man!! As a Stingray player I’d love to have a 5 string of this! Preamp is everything you could want or need! No thousand dollar bass comes with this amount of tone options

Yes I would recommend this bass, easily!!!
now this is supposedly the correct way to do a bass or guitar demo. thank you mr. miller

Hi I thank God for you Marcus Miller because I learn how to play the bass guitar by studying your music. And I built a five string power bass that you may love totally active bass, a hard ash body , maple and rosewood neck. Keep doing what you do the world needs you your sound is like medicine for your soul.
Marcus Miller seems like the nicest and coolest guy ever. What a fantastic give back in life!
I could listen to Marcus Miller play all day.
This is one of the coolest dudes ever! I own this particular bass, I didn’t know much about it, this has been the best informative video about an artist series instrument.
Legend, amazing man, musician. Trying to Make music accessible to the masses to be enjoyed by the masses. Enthusiasm is infectious. Bless you man.
Love my Sire Bass!!!!!
I love that "growl" of the bass guitar!! Marcus Miller is funky!!! Love him!!!
In da booty
Just purchased mine and oh my goodness..... I can’t believe he made a bass that replicates his sound....
The Bass was only $500.... in case you wanted to know.
How can you not like this guy.. Too down to earth
This guy is by far one of the best bassist (bass player) in the world, not just in America. Since the 1980's he's had so many distinctive bass notes incl. credits on movie soundtracks.
9:34 "The bass-ics of the bass". Thanks, I'm here all week.
I could listen to this guy all day.
Man he even speaks with groove.... I swear, Marcus is the best ever!!!!
That mark cab tho.😍😍😍😍
I was gonna call bullshit on the magnetic field lol
love this video, as you said Marcus you've allowed the bass and customers to testify of its quality. Thanks again man
Young bass player my eye! This bass is fire! I've been playing Ken Smith for over 20 years ...and i am getting this bass!!!!!!!!!!
lol i here you james my smith has been sitting in the corner ever since i bought the v7
I can't decide if this was a bass review or quick masterclass about gigging EQ. But I enjoyed it
Cool, thank's a lot Marcus for demonstrating the use of the tone controls in depth, especially the mid-sweep which I have a much better concept of now.
Just bought a P7 and V7,...... KILLER basses! Thanks
What a cool guy. His AWSOME! I want that bass!
He is a legend, come from far in any genre of music, thumbs up
Having an instrument that plays well to a beginner is so important and being able to afford one is also good. This a great partnership and those aspiring bass players could just be the next Jaco or Marcus.
I bought two,... V7 and the P7,... Both are amazing for different reasons. Highly recommended.
Thanks Marcus, thanks Sire for a great instrument!
Marcus Miller is the coolest great bass player on this planet !!! a huge thank’s to him for these Super Sire bass !!
He is awesome - met him at a workshop in Maryland. Also, these Sire bases are awesome. I have a V7 Vintage 4 and 5 string. The quality is incredible for the price - both under 500.
Sire basses sounds really clean and pristine it is nice and crispy such a clean sound, I got one a P7 bass.
You can't get any better than this man.... The Master Marcus Miller. I have yet to hear a younger bass player play bass as proficient as the old school bass players.... I guess that is why back then they were called "Musicians", today they are called artists... now, its about how you look and the music just went the back seat.
The best bass guitar sound demo. Respect Miller!
A joy just to see you play.
Brilliant!
This man enters a room and brings funk instantly
we need more guitar / bass demo like the way Marcus explains his guitar. style and knowledge!
Just ordered one. Now all I gotta do is learn to play :)
I love these basses. So grateful for the quality Korean made gear at a great price. My 80s Korean Squier precision was one of the best basses I’ve ever owned.
Thanks for sharing!
Marcus is a phantastic bass player but also seems like a great guy. What a role model!
Marcus is a great demo guy. Nice sounding basses.
Soon as heard the "Run For Cover" intro @ 2:46 I said Yep! Got my coat and cheque book and was down the shops to purchase my copy.
These basses look almost boutique quality. Same for the Larry Carlton guitars. I really like this.
