I hear you. However, animals are not toys, they are sentient beings that should simply taken care of, not necessarily so that humans can entertain themselves
@@AlbuquerqueBandit Horses in your world might be a luxury animal, but you still have to feed them. A healthy diet isn't just grass in a pasture somewhere. Up until just a few decades ago, work horses still helped plow the fields of farmers that sent their crops to market, for you to buy the food you eat. For all that horses have done to help build this country, you want to end their existence.
@@MeMeDaVinci What I like to do to ensure a moral argument is sound is to apply it to another situation involving sentient beings. Humans are sentient, just like horses. So, let's apply your moral argument/justification here. You've also built a strawman, insisting I'm advocating for killing off all horses right now. Let's get into applying the moral justification first. Let's look at the case of human slavery. Up until 1865, slavery was how the South produced food. The industrial revolution helped this to end, of course. So, imagine someone in 1904 saying "Up until a few decades ago, you could hardly find food that was produced without slave labor, so we should bring it back!" I'm sure some back then would've agreed, but others (like myself) would've turned their eyebrows up at this statement. Hopefully you would've as well. Now, as for the strawman argument you created. Let's look at that. First off, I'm definitely not saying to exterminate horses right off the bat. While I do admit that we've bred them to be far, far from what they used to be in the wild, I don't think it'd be morally right to just euthanize all of them. I think we should certainly stop breeding animals into forms that subject them to genetic issues, and issues like a good portion of horse births ending in a terrible turning-inside-out of the mother, resulting in her death - as a result of how we've bred them. I think it's morally wrong to continue to subject a sentient being to a form we created through selective breeding, just so we can enjoy sitting on them, or using them to guard properties (dogs) or exploiting them for their menstrual cycles (chickens). I'm totally fine with Przewalski's horse continuing to exist, as that's how horses were originally before we started breeding them into an unnatural form that benefited humans specifically, with total disregard to how the changes affected their quality of life. Much like the domestic dog. Most domestic dog breeds shouldn't exist. Look at the pug. People continue breeding them into a form that causes them suffering day in and day out, just because they think it's cute. Hip dysplasia is another example of genetic issues resulting from breeding dogs the way WE want them, with total disregard for how our changes affect the animal. So in the end, yes it's fine to take care of an animal that was bred into existence by individuals who are completely apathetic to the suffering of others, so long as they benefit. What's not okay is to continue the cycle that those people started. This is why we have vegan animal sanctuaries with all these types of domestic animals (dogs, horses, chickens, goats, cows, pigs, turkeys, peacocks, sheep, llamas, alpacas, etc etc) but vegan sanctuaries don't BREED these animals for any reason, including entertainment. They're essentially helping to clean up some of the mess non-vegans have made out of these animals' lives.

@@intermodus2180 Well generally, "retired" horses in racing are slaughtered. Sometimes they're surrendered to sanctuary, but they're often just chained up in a small cage and shot in the head with a rifle. "Retired" means something totally different for non-human animals than it does for humans. We cling to life for ourselves, but when a non-human animal is finished with being useful to us, we'd usually rather not spend money on feeding them, because that costs money which eats into our bottom line, when running a business. It's cheaper to put a .223 round into their face than to keep feeding them and housing them for years. It makes business sense, which is why it's done. However, there ARE plenty of vegan animal sanctuaries for you people to put your animals when you're finished exploiting them like toys. I know a lot of people just want "access" to animals living in a city like LA and they can travel to one of the many sanctuaries in Southern California to experience what it is like to be around happy healthy animals. These horses all deserve that too. I hope we can find amazing retirement homes for these animals that are being dumped by the owner because he can't exploit them anymore.

Maybe you should look into the history of Griffith Park and even further than that, the old west. Horses are our history. They were brought over from Spain. Ah, forget it, informing somebody like you is worthless.
I can tell you right now, as a experienced equestrian and longtime customer of these pony rides, having been going since i was very little and this tradition has gone back to my great great grandmas generation. These horses are adored, loved and cared for. Most of these ponies are old as hell, but still in great condition for the work they do, which is equal to daily exercise need to keep a old horse in working order. They look skinny because they lose muscle mass when they age. These horses are not abused, and the owners whom i know personally genuinely care about them. A few longtime employees got to take home their favorite ponies, in other words they will be loved till their last breath. These ponies look dull because they know the drill, and do it right. They all perk up after sleep, and are always being given treats and pets and kisses by customers and employees alike.
This may be a treasured family tradition to some people, but I'm sure the ponies think it sucks!! This is just like the carriage rides in NYC, ANIMAL CRUELTY!
@J-River Phoenixhaha ok. No one is abusing them. They are trained just like dogs to listen. Maybe you should stop eating meats or anything that animal related. Go to other countries and see what is animal abuse. You live in a little cave.
Wrong, the vet report from the licensed vet working this case said they didnt die due to neglect, or abuse. Most of these ponies are older, and older equines are more susceptible to health issues that could be life threatening. Colic is a big thing, can kill a horse in under a hour.

I also spend a good portion of my free time speaking out for the rights of others who don't have a voice of their own. I believe volunteering my time to help others in need is a good way to spend my free time, and I willingly and happily do it. From what I've seen, most activists ARE employed, which is why many activist events are held on weekends. If you do work 80+ hours per week and have absolutely no time for anything you're passionate for, then good for you (if that's what you enjoy doing with your time). If you aren't happy about it, maybe consider making a change in your life to give yourself more free time to do things that ARE important to you. Life is about balance.

They ask me to not hold them accountable for their own actions, but rather hold the people they give their money to - and enable to continue their industry - accountable.
I think everyone should hold themselves accountable for their own actions. Activists are just here to point out some actions that people fail to hold themselves accountable for. Every dollar is a vote. Every dollar spent is an action we each take to ensure that what we pay for continues to happen.
Sure, nobody can be 100% perfect in modern society, where sometimes ALL options are corrupt (like smartphones). But we can all attempt to do better than we currently are doing.
Who's paying these activists to be there?
As a poor kid from the 80s it was one of the few affordable things to do in this city.
As a equestrian when I look at them they are skinny, clear they are abused, it’s so sad horses are amazing animals I should never be treated like this
Poor you posh pony. The ponies have access to food water and have misters for when the season is hot weather. They are not skinny I see full bellies. I see good saddles for children. I see guides that help the children all along the way. Why don't you take your money and go put it into your horses and your oats and your grains and your alfalfa and your big green pastures and stay the heck out of a simple pony ride for children when that's the only access to an animal experience they may have.
Hope those horses have a safe loving place to go to
I wish they would stop the horse carriage in New York❤
Not Relevant Here.
Keep your clout Chase in NY♥️
This may be a treasured family tradition to some people, but I'm sure the ponies think it sucks!! This is just like the carriage rides in NYC, ANIMAL CRUELTY!
No. You pic-less turnip.
This closure is long overdue
@@edc1266 False. Spread your wings, and fly south🦊🚬

Freaking weirdos getting rid of everything non electronic.
@J-River Phoenixhaha ok. No one is abusing them. They are trained just like dogs to listen. Maybe you should stop eating meats or anything that animal related. Go to other countries and see what is animal abuse. You live in a little cave.
4 ponies just died inexplicable deaths there… That might be another factor in this closure.
4 deaths in 78 years seems like a pretty good ratio to me
Probably poisoned by PETA just to get their point across
Wrong, the vet report from the licensed vet working this case said they didnt die due to neglect, or abuse. Most of these ponies are older, and older equines are more susceptible to health issues that could be life threatening. Colic is a big thing, can kill a horse in under a hour.
How about protest in favor of the homeless?
Go fishing. Deer hunting. Or the parents can teach them how to do house chores, mow the lawn, weed the garden, learn and explore new hobbies, practice their academic studies. What happened to parents teach their kids basic surviving life skills. Always with the iPhones and iPads. Giving Absent parents are new meaning.
Even better, families can avoid harming animals altogether. Go hiking, go to a national park, go camping, skiing/snowboarding, play airsoft or paintball, ride some gokarts or bumper boats, play minigolf, go to a ball game, a museum or art gallery, go to a concert, an interactive educational place like Explora here in Albuquerque, go to a botanic garden, take a walk to a park for a (plant-based) picnic, visit local attractions (there are many within 2h of my city like the Very Large Array, countless Native ruins, wildlife reserves, animal sanctuaries, caves, rivers and lakes, petroglyph trails)
I may not be the smartest man in the world but I think pony’s aren’t immortal 😂
That's awesome! We're moving away from exploiting animals 👌🏽
Wrong. Go waive your brown fingers somewhere they'll hear your BS.
It looks more than a bit of some of our other "liberations" when we forgot that liberated have to live somehow. Instead we just wash our hands off
Try working on exploited children first. This is, unless you are one of the people who follow the circuit.
Noooooo! 😢
@J-River Phoenix Oh well. They'll open up somewhere else.. 😆
this is what happens when democrats come to "help". the fun police.
TV has warped your fragile little mind.
Having said that, letting the horse rides slip away is lost heritage for EVERYONE.
Because of fake brwn new$.😢
@@intermodus2180 Ah yes, heritage. The government has stolen my heritage as well. My ancestors used to invade, r*pe, and kill everyone that had resources they wanted. I know, though, that if I started doing that, I'd end up in prison. :(
Why doesn't the government seem to respect heritage anymore?!
I JUST want to steal someone's stuff while carrying an axe!!!
WOKE state nice job Democrat voters👍🏼🤣
a kid can't even ride a pony anymore these days.
Maybe great for children but did anyone ask the animals what they want? Its about time we stop abusing animals for our own pleasure.
Guarantee next year will be bunch of hipsters running the horse's and charging 50.00 bucks and no one will say anything. This is H.S
The activists need to get a job.
They have one. Exploiting Animal Retirement and Family Enrichment Centers. For Publicity.
And Donations.
Hi, I'm an activist. This is a common misconception, believing that activists must be jobless in order to care so much about the health, safety, and happiness of animals.
I'm an EE98J licensed electrical journeyman in commercial construction. I teach the trade to apprentices I work with while we're on the job. I work more than 40 hours a week, own 2 cars and a house, have a wonderful and amazing housewife who is also a vegan activist, and enjoy going hiking and exploring natural wonders.

Yeah I'm on the 50/50 level on this whole Shut down news! I'm finally there trying to save the Pony from getting kill and Also it's sad that The new Generation of Kids will never see one of the coolest thing's about Griffith Park LA.

Just hire a reputable company who cares about their ponies. This owner it would seem, took the profits, and spent little to care for his animals.
This isn't a situation of monies.
You better have City Hall connections.
Preferably of many brwn ethnicities.
Because, reality is, this was a old time operation, whose worst downfall was not having a brwn public relations officer.
Truth is, this was basically a petting zoo for retired barn animals, of which, the ponies, and *horses* were a part of.

There was NO issue here.
It's Fake News, made by clout chasers, and Regurgitated by local new$. 🦊🚬Mahalo, "activist"
It's all one and the same. Rooted in viewing animals as objects we can exploit for entertainment.
Meat, dairy, fish, eggs, honey. They're all unnecessary, and consumed for the sake of pleasure - or entertainment.
Rodeos, horse rides, petting zoos. They're all unnecessary, and done for the sake of pleasure - or entertainment.
All of them have something in common - not viewing the animals as sentient beings worthy of being granted some level of autonomy. Seen as playthings that are here to serve us.
Wow ,,,sad.
If you want to ride…don’t ride the white pony
Will it kick me up side the head and end my very existence? Because I need that. Right about now.
