Ichigo has the simplest goal of the Big 3: just wants to protect his friends. He doesnt care about being the strongest or being a leader. All the strength he has is just to help others. He's just a nice guy. I think that simplicity makes him more relatable.

He could one shot the 3 captains if they came to opose him, and gerard wasnt rlly doing shit tbf, sure he was alive but he was getting cooked by all 3 of em by the end of the fight. But honestly yes, tybw has some plotholes due to tite kubo being forced to rush the end of the manga, as weve seen so far, the anime adaptation is fixing and adding lots of new details and scenes so hopefully that continues and we get a proper version of what kubo wanted for his series instead of the rushed product.
