Tupac Amaru Shakur (/ˈtuːpɑːk ʃəˈkʊər/; born Lesane Parish Crooks, June 16, 1971 - September 13, 1996), also known by his stage name 2Pac and briefly Makaveli, was an American rapper.
He is widely considered one of the most influential and successful rappers of all time.
Randy Walker (August 21, 1968 - November 30, 1995), better known by his stage name Stretch, was an American rapper and record producer, working in Live Squad.
In the early 1990s, he joined 2Pac's rap group Thug Life.
The November 30, 1994, shooting of Shakur led to their split. On November 30, 1995, Walker was shot and killed at the age of 27.
Lyrics:
Intro: Sample from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier]
I couldn't help but notice your pain
My pain?
It runs deep - share it with me!
[Verse 1: 2Pac]
They'll never take me alive, I'm gettin' high with my four-five
Cocked on these suckas, time to die
Even as a youngster causin' ruckus on the back of the bus
I was a fool all through high school, kickin' up dust
But now I'm labeled as a troublemaker - who can you blame?
Smokin' weed helped me take away the pain
So I'm hopeless, rollin' down the freeway swervin', don't worry
I'm 'bout to crash up on the curb ‘cause my vision's blurry
Maybe if they tried to understand me - what should I do?
I had to feed my fuckin' family - what else could I do
But be a thug? Out slangin' with the homies
Fuck hangin' with them phonies in the clubs!
Got my mind on danger, never been a stranger to homicide
My city's full of gang-bangers and drive-by's
Why do we die at an early age?
He was so young, but still a victim of the 12 gauge
My memories of a corpse, mind full of sick thoughts
And I ain't goin' back to court, so fuck what you thought!
I'm drinkin' Hennessy, runnin' from my enemies
Will I live to be 23? There's so much pain
[Hook]
Ohhhh…
Tired of the strain and the pain
Ohhhh…
Tired of the strain and the pain
[Verse 2: Stretch]
Years and years of that rough life
Runnin' crazed and wild as a kid and growin' tough with a knife
And livin' trifed on the regular, buckin' out competitors
See 'em fake a move and chase 'em down like the fuckin' Predator
Get in trouble every day in school, act a fool
And you know I had to break every rule
Showin' off for the bitches ‘cause I had the mad rep
So I had to watch my back when it was time to step
But my grimies is the grimiest with love for me
Pop, pop, pop, and send a chuckle up above for me
Ayo, currency kept passin' me by, but I didn't cry, broke
Got hit off with the pack and started sellin' coke
And now the money's lookin' lovely
Pop the drop top and now the bitches wanna rub me
Kick 'em the game, it's all the same
I kick it back yo, give 'em slack yo
And now they label me the mack yo, people check it
Get disrespected if you front on the Birdman, you heard, man
Catch a couple shots from the Glock in my hand
Damn! At least I'm realistic with my biscuit
You know you get yo' ass twisted, so run for cover
Me and my man got a plan, kickin' major dust
So if you owe, nigga, look for the gauge to bust
A lot of pressure with the street fame, it's a deep game
And my mama always cryin' yo, there's so much pain
[Hook]
[Verse 3: 2Pac]
They got me mobbin' like I'm loc'ed, and ready to get my slug on
I load my clip and slip my motherfuckin' gloves on
I ain't scared to blast on these suckas if they test me
Trust - I got my Glock cocked, playa, if they press me
Bust - on motherfuckers with a passion
Better duck, ‘cause I ain't lookin' when I'm b-blastin'
I'm a nut and drinkin' Hennessy
And gettin' high, on the lookout for my enemies
Don't wanna die, tell me why? ‘Cause this stress is gettin' major
A buck 50 across the face with my razor
What can I do but be a thug until I'm dead and gone?
I keep my brain on the game and stay headstrong
These sorry bastards wanna kill me in my sleep
I'm real, they cannot see, and every day is just a struggle
Steady thuggin' on the streets, and I'll be ballin', loc
Don't let 'em make you worry, keep swingin' at these suckas 'til you buried
I was born to raise hell, a nigga from the gutta
Word to mother, I'm touched
Out kickin' dust up, ready to bust
I'm on the scene, steady muggin' mean, until they kill me
I'll be livin' this life, I know you feel me; there's so much pain
[Outro]
Ohhh…
Tired of the strain and the pain
Ohhh…
Tired of the strain and the pain
Ohhh…
Tired of the strain and the pain
Ohhh…
Tired of the strain and the pain
Ohhhhhh…

Above the Rim - The Soundtrack is the official soundtrack to the 1994 film of the same name. The soundtrack, released by Death Row and Interscope Records on March 22, 1994, was executive produced by Suge Knight. Dr. Dre acted as supervising producer on the project.
The cassette version of the soundtrack contained three bonus tracks that could not fit on the CD due to time constraints: "Pain" by 2Pac (with Stretch), "Mi Monie Rite!" by Lord G, and "Loyal to the Game" by 2Pac, Treach from Naughty By Nature, and Riddler.
The bonus track, "Pain" was initially rejected for use in the film by Dr. Dre. However, at the request of recording engineer Norman Whitfield Jr., the track was recut and remixed for the film by record producer, Isaias Gamboa.
I remember being so disappointed getting the CD and not having it on there. Usually its the other way around with bonus tracks. Not like we could go on RUclips back then.
I remember having the soundtrack when I was in 5th grade. I couldn't imagine the nostalgia of listening to the Above the Rim Soundtrack and watching the movie without the song "Pain". This a good video. Above the Rim was a classic album in itself.
Bruh you the goat nva seen this video before
Wanna say Dre and Tommy D mixed and tracked like 5 of the songs on this album over a weekend at Dre’s home studio
#facts
People say, Tupac was not lyrical, because he was Rhyming word to word, but his style of rapping was unique and no one could match him on that.
A lot of people can't relate because he was a poet, actor, Wrighter, Director. performer and many more
I'm not hating when I say this, but he wasn't the most lyrical in the sense of metaphors and punchlines etc. But his raps were straightforward with a strong message, and delivery like no other. He's the only rapper I've ever heard that it feels more like poetry listening to his words. He didn't need to be super lyrical to be great. So I'm okay with people saying he wasn't the best lyricist. I would agree. But that doesn't mean he wasn't great at making masterpieces in the studio and making you feel every single word he put in his songs. That's what made him great imo. Dude made a huge impact in his short time here and there's a reason we still regularly talk about him to this day 🐐
Well said and I agree. Only few people rapped like that and made you hear the message. My other favorite who did that for me was DMX….RIP to both
I refer to him as the Poet 2Pac when I talk about him to my Students! Peace!
What’s rhyming word to word. Need a example
In the summer of 94 I played this song over and over again. He became my favorite rapper after hearing this song. Still my favorite song

Y'all only care about this guy because he's dead. Come on, if he was alive, no one would care. And he probably wouldn't be much more than an average rapper.
If a person has an enemy, he should also question himself.Pac was a drama queen. He was a sensitive man who studied fine arts, painted, wrote poems.he was never a gangster.
I wish he'd stopped pretending to be someone he's not.
He was a very talented young man, but he was also a dangerous character.sad.

Crazy ending on that picture. Both Pac and Stretch died. Pac shot 94, Stretch die year later from Pac date being shot in NY, Pac killed 9.5 months after Stretch died, then Kadafi 2 months after Pac, then Biggie early 97 in March. Crazy everything went wrong in a 2 1/2 year span from late November '94 to early March '97. Ghetto drama and betrayal, all that money could've been made in rap for them.
Would they made of that much money if it wasn't for their beef and this kind of content tho?

This was always one of my favorite Pac tracks!
Pac showed he can be hard n gritty with his rap when it calls for it.
The carzy thing about this video is 2Pac was a very clairvoyant person and he always predicted his potential enemies and extended enemies in his music. Now where I'm going with this is 2Pac and Stretch were once best friends before the Quad studio setup. In 1994 Tupac and Stretch were ambushed in the lobby of a recording studio. 2Pac always believed Stretch was involved and most people believed that ultimately lead to Stretch assassin on the way home that day driving threw Queens. I also heard Stretch on a live 1994 recording say "2Pac did that too himself😢". It's no coincidence that by the end of this video 2Pac appears at the grave site about to murder Stretch but the dead homie appear to persuade him not to. Pac manifested all his realities of life. When I watch that truthful documentary on the friend turned enemies of 2Pac there is no way I couldn't believe Stretch was involved in Pac setup based off how the detective included in key points of hidden information. I think Stretch got what he deserved according to how Pac felt and if Pac really had a iffy feeling about you, it soon surfaced as truth. If Pac thought you had ill intentions against him i'm definitely from that era of I don't support who Pac didn't support. Long Live Amaru-Shakur, Afeni Shakur and Mutulu Shakur❤️🖤💚
Well said. Years later were finally getting closer on who shot and killed pac both times. It was always some of hip hops biggest mysteries

That beat is amazing 🎉
I like the old rap, even tho it's old, it's wmwzing, and has that hip hop and gangsta feel to it. If you close your eyes, you feel like your in a diffrent place, at a diffrent time. The vibe of it is just amazing. It makes you feel like your in the hood crusing in a nice car or truck on a slightly foggy day.
Todays rap is so mumbley, and barely listenable. the rappers either mumble over an overfixated prosseced "auto-tuned" voice, or all scream the same fake way, it feels extremely shitty to listen to, and is more like some shitty punk song made by your average British worker syndicalist in the most ghetto part of london in the late 2010s.
It’s because many of the rappers back in the day were telling stories with their music..speaking from what they saw and experienced and were a part of..that’s the realness that a lot of modern day rappers are missing. When it’s real, you can feel it.
I do like the old rap music from the 90s .

@@Figgaz85 Oohhh ok!! Nice!!!
Pac was such a beautiful soul, different than the norm on so many levels. He stood out, his spirit and way through his life were so human, so aware of his existence, so consciously living until the very last breath as far as I can tell. His physical death, yet his mind and spirit live on. His message and way to take on his life no matter what he was facing, that's rare. So rare that his young body of 25 contained a soul older than the wise old man.
He said in one of his interviews " I got the whole world fear me, at 23, weighing 160 lbs and I haven't even started, I haven't even written out my plan yet."
So powerful. He had no filters, no masks, just a pure, direct, honest, open and fully real human being. And he did what he thought best with his life and was so open and pure with his feelings and emotions ...
He definitely is the closest person I've never met physically, but spiritually, yes.
Poet, actor, rapper, activist, socially aware.
Thriving on so many levels with everything life threw at him. Inspirational and example for many.
He fought for what he believed in and lived. He faced all his fears and laid them bare in his life, all there in the open. His songs, acting roles, interviews, poems, the way he lived.
That recent docu series called Dear Mama is a gem on so many levels.
The name says it all. Afeni, the reason Tupac Amaru Shakur existed in the first place. And I mean him as a person, his name, and his character and power to take on life and all challenges. A combination of life, societies child that society also formed him as he said, and of course such a big main part goes to his mom, Afeni. Her life, what she did and how she raised him.
There is so much to say, so let's keep their spirit and message alive and spread it.
Honor these beautiful souls and share the message. Spirits like these 2, I think we definitely need more in this world.
This video sad af😢😢

Anyone that thinks Big Stretch wasnt a wolf in sheeps clothing around Pac is delusional and in denial...yes,Stretch added a classic verse on this cut but he betrayed Pac,did him DIRTY...he ultimately paid w/his life in 95',Exactly a year to the day Pac got shot at Quad Studios(Pac shot November 30, 94' then Big Stretch got shot And killed November 30,95') No love lost there but then unfortunately Pac got shot and killed less than a year after Stretch...Crazy set of circumstances 😢Rest Easy Pac❤
