I listened to the lyrics instead of just getting caught up in the emotional sentiments of the video, and some things she said are alarming. It doesn't always end up happily ever after for "ride or dies" who give more than they get out of their relationships. I've seen aunties like that end up broke and destitute to the point of being homeless taking care of a man who wouldn't and/or couldn't help provide and/or was incarcerated or other less favorable situations; I saw some end up broken, angry, feeling cheated, and bitter. Watching so many BW get so little for all their sacrifice giving them the reputation of being the women for "struggle love" to go to when you're down and out, because they supposedly have little to no standards for men, showed me the error in always putting others, especially your men, before yourself not even knowing if he'd do the same for you if the tables were turned. It taught me from observation to have standards for myself and my man so I wasn't taken for granted or used. It should teach us not to end up just another Bernadine from Ready to Exhale. Love should be reciprocal in every way and not all one-sided loyalty with her always the one ending up with the short end of the stick. Just my dose of reality to add a different perspective.

I listened to the lyrics instead of just getting caught up in the emotional sentiments of the video, and some things she said are alarming. It doesn't always end up happily ever after for "ride or dies" who give more than they get out of their relationships. I've seen aunties like that end up broke and destitute to the point of being homeless taking care of a man who wouldn't and/or couldn't help provide and/or was incarcerated or other less favorable situations; I saw some end up broken, angry, feeling cheated, and bitter. Watching so many BW get so little for all their sacrifice giving them the reputation of being the women for "struggle love" to go to when you're down and out, because they supposedly have little to no standards for men, showed me the error in always putting others, especially your men, before yourself not even knowing if he'd do the same for you if the tables were turned.
It taught me from observation to have standards for myself and my man so I wasn't taken for granted or used. It should teach us not to end up just another Bernadine from Ready to Exhale. Love should be reciprocal in every way and not all one-sided loyalty with her always the one ending up with the short end of the stick. Just my dose of reality to add a different perspective.
