Awsome video! Loved the Tiamat deck (I'm currently building one myself) thanks for sharing! And you are absolutely right, AITFR has been by far one of the most enoyable sets so far
I enjoy Prosper as a commander and there's so many ways to build him and it's worth it. As an author I enjoy it because he's got a magical book ready to retrieve all the treasures from exile
I got broad wiped 4 times and still won with Tiamat. Just depends on how high your ceiling is as well as consistency Tiamat has been my favorite deck to build because dragons was the tribe I got into magic with while playing modern and I have to say this deck can do it all.
SHOOT! I don't know how we missed this in editing. His second hand was actually, Exploration, Steely Resolve, Chromatic Lantern, Terror of the Peaks, Mana Confluence, and Savannah. Great eye for catching this. I'll make sure to double check in the future.
First laugh was seeing "no sorceries" followed by the Prosper highlight cards with 3 of them being sorceries. Completely understandable, but that was good stuff 😂
Carlos paying for Esper Sentinel's Trigger when casting Dark Ritual but if he did it would mean that he wouldn't have the mana to cast Prosper since he would have to use his only Red source to pay the trigger. This is why you play your spells in proper timing and don't skip triggers to determine mana costs.
I should have stated this to make it clear but I had some red mana to start it and then Runaway steaming to get the red mana every three casts. Sorry about that!
Holy shit seeing that dragon deck firing on all cylinders game 1 was rad. Great games guys! Also, Carlos you and I have damn near identical handwriting, and as arbitrary as that is I'll probably be cheering for you every game because of it. So you have gained +1 loyal fan
All 4 of the decks were popping off in game 1, but I had an inkling that the dragon deck might win when he dropped Scion of Draco, that card is pretty sweet for just 2 mana - and the dragon deck had a decent board state at that moment.
With infinite mana and a card in hand, I could use the Merchant of the Vale's ability to pay three discard a card and then draw a card. I do this until I found Grapeshot. Then cast Grapeshot with infinite storm. :) (Merchant of the Vale was cast on Turn 4)
It does work because Mizzix's Mastery copies cards, not spells. Copying a spell means the copy is created on the stack and because it "skips" casting the spell, cast triggers don't happen. Mizzix's Mastery copies the card in exile, which is not a spell yet, and then allows you to cast that copy (copy then becomes a spell). I hope this doesn't sound too confusing, I'm bad at explaining things.
@@the.rainmaker Exactly, Mizzix's Mastery copies cards from exile, these cards may or may not be played, but are played of the stack. Then: Mizzix's Mastery on the stack -> exiles all instant and sorcery card's. zones: - exiled zone: cards exiled by Mizzix's Mastery. - stack: Mizzix's Mastery + copies of the cards (most unplayed) exiled by Mizzix's Mastery. For more details see rules 108.2 and 706.12 that deal with effects like Mizzix's Mastery.
@@antonio2708 Rule 706.12 says exactly what I said. You're copying an object (card), which means it's not on the stack yet. And then you cast that card, which triggers effects like Prosper, Guttersnipe, etc. Mizzix copies even increase your storm count. For any rules purposes, you're casting the card.
@@antonio2708 They are created in exile but I see what you're talking about. Mastery counts for casting "spells" but not for casting "cards", and I merged the two... So Guttersnipe and Thousand-Year Storm will count Mastery copies but Prosper will not. That's a really unintuitive effect...
Why didn't Jon exile altar when ugin did -3? It affects ALL permanents. Edit: the mountain you played from prosper was not playable as you can only play it until the end of your next turn. A full turn had already passed I believe. Edit2: how did Brice get a dungeon trigger @26:28. Did he cycle something?
Ugin only exiles things that are one or more colors. Altar is colorless. Brice was able to get a trigger because Sire of Insanity forced him to discard the card he drew due to Rhystic Study. I think you're correct about the mountain
@@sigtin9826 sick thanks for pointing that out! Kind of new to EDH. Definitely makes ugin a little weaker than I thought, but he's still strong as hell.
@@joshholmes1372 one thing to note if you play ugin against a deck that makes copies of creatures. The copies still have the cmc of the original creature. This took me forever to understand, but take Scute Swarm as an example. Scute Swarm creates a 1/1 insect whenever a land enters your side of the battlefield. However, if you have 6 or more lands when this ability triggers, instead you get a copy of Scute Swarm. I used to think that copies have a cmc of 0, so I tried to use a -0 Ugin ability but didn't exile a single copy of Scute Swarm, because they also copied the 3 cmc value
That Grinning Ignus combo at the end of game 2 doesn't work. Carlos' hand was empty every time he cast Grinning Ignus, so he couldn't possibly discard anything to the trigger of Hazoret's Monument. Then, when he decided to stop casting Grinning Ignus, let's say at storm count 100, he returned it to his hand and had no more options to discard anything because the discard triggers off the Monument were already gone (casting Grinning Ignus only works at sorcery speed, it's a creature). So no, he didn't actually get to keep looting, he was stuck with a storm count of 100 (or 100 million), 200 mana in his mana pool and a Grinning Ignus in hand.
It’s hard to see because it’s a spelltable game but I had a Merchant of the Vale in play. So with infinite mana I can draw and discard using its ability until I get the grapeshot! If I didn’t have merchant you would be right.
I feel like the power level of these decks was not balanced at all. The dragon deck was broken as heck. It looked like it was more expensive than all the other decks combined.
I can see why you might think that but we share decklists before we play and while you can never be exactly at the same power level we all felt good about the pod. Thanks for your feedback!
I agree, but I also acknowledge I had an amazing start in game 1. I feel that Prosper and Drizzt were always one turn away from killing me, but the dungeon deck needed just a little bit more… something.
@@KingdomsTV How do you then go about discarding and drawing, because the steam kin is only producing enough red to play Ignus continuously, so you can't activate the Merchant of the Vale and you would have been only able to discard to the monument once since you discarded ignus to it? Sorry if I've missed something it just doesn't look right to me

I'm not sure I want to see whats in his book. :)
That tiamat deck is awesome. A bit powerful for the table maybe, but it was awesome to see.
Not really. One boardwipe and a deck full of 8 CMC haymakers cries.
Ya he just had a great game.

Loved the dragon tribal. So glad to see the tribe doing well
I think Tiamat can give Ur Dragon a run for his money!
Was really excited to see this drizzt deck pop off
Can't win em' all!
Very cool prosper lines
Prosper is so fun. So many options.
Are we gonna ignore both of Jason's first hands were the EXACT same??

Was waiting for AFR!! Bloom tender into klauth and then tiamat into hunting grounds. Yowza.

It really is.
I havent seen it in so long!
First time I had ever cast it. 10/10 would recommend!
Around 12:40 why did Jason play steely resolve and then play ugin? He should have done it the other way around lol

I don't quite understand the end of Game 2. What exactly is the loopable draw/discard outlet that's used to find Grapeshot here?
I was able to get infinite mana and then loop a card through the merchant until I found grapeshot!
@@KingdomsTV Ah yes, I didn't see that merchant. Thanks!
I am just wondering how Jason was able to cast Ebon from gy without any creature dying on his turn. It just seems so weird.
