Even more than the lyrics, I love the slow pace of the start and the almost echoe-y bit at the start. It makes the sentences said word by word feel like it's our internal voice, like we are really alone and vulnerable. These harsh words we say to ourselves all the time said in this slow pace make it so harsh (if that makes any sense). It also made me feel like the story about the whale singing, that she is lonely and sings in the sea and no one can hear...it felt the beginning was stripped and lonely, going with the rhythm of the waves, each word so hurtful said in a slow inner voice...and then, having more energy, being surrounded and gaining more courage and determination with music, with more instruments etc...I don't know if you see what I mean but I especially appreciate the slow/quiet intro and outro, and the "why am I so insecure". So soft, slow, both feeling defeated and tired or pleading and asking so innocently what we can have done wrong? It's pure, raw emotions there. it hits me and all the voices in my head trying to make me fit in, scolding me for not being normal, but also pleading to be similar to others or to love myself as I am...
I've never felt as comforted by music as I feel like when I listen to The Rose. I can finally let out all My feelings and just let the tears pour. Usually I'm a cold person that doesn't get to cry often, but The Rose songs act as a switch for my tearduckts to just begin pouring and I'm so thankful that they help all of us so much, even if they'll never know.
