    I love that you watch all the Oscar movies. Such a cool hobby. Out of all Bens categories it’s the one I feel the least confident on but I think I have found one from my shelf.
    Hamnet is wonderful I hope you also love it.
    The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida is one of my faves!!
    I hope you enjoy all of your picks ☺️

    I love your "Book of Shame" challenge! The problem is, I have too many. I'm also a member of The Hardcore Literature Club...which means I read some of Ben's recommendations and love his lectures. I'm so pleased to "meet you" on your channel!

      Lovely to meet you as well and I love that you are in the club, too. Which book are you reading for the club at the moment? I am on Les Mis and I am loving it. I told myself I would read a chapter a day starting on 1/1/24 and I have already exceed that. I just can't stop!

    Oh how fun, Gretchen! I’m glad you’re having fun with it. That Ben! I loved learning that you’ve got the Oscar’s film project. How interesting!! Ah, I wonder if you’d think about doing a video about some of the things you’re watching around Oscar season…maybe the less popular categories that get less attention. Regardless, I love how Ben’s prompts are encouraging you to get to books you already have, right! Jane Eyre: I LOVE that copy! Is that a Vintage edition? I just read Jane Eyre last year!! I was blown away. Also, the one and only Julian Barnes I read was that one! Last year. Subtle. Great writing as you would expect. 😊

      Thanks, Renee! I definitely like the idea of some movie videos. Especially, for the ones that are based on movies!
      Also, it is a Penguin Vintage Heroines edition. They came out a few years ago and they highlight books with strong and fierce female leads. They had some of the most beautiful covers and I’m not ashamed to admit that I bought way more than I needed. 😂🤣😂

    Literally finished Hamnet today. A solid 4 stars. I used it as the feveruary promo, given the plauge themes.
    Hope you enjoy it.

    Watching movies may be one of the few things I enjoy as much or more than reading! You could start dropping movie reviews as well--they'd be great as well. Thanks for sharing this reading challenge, and I'm curious what your favorite film from last year was!

    • @madeubook
      @madeubook  11 месяцев назад +1

      I adore movies and they are even better if they are based on a book I’ve read. Last year my favorite for Best Picture was Everything, Everywhere All at Once. I loved it. One of the most unique movies I’ve seen in a long time. And the fact that the actor that played Data in The Goonies was in it out it over the top for me.

    • @scothatfield
      @scothatfield 11 месяцев назад

      @@madeubook that was my fav from last year as well. Such a unique, funny, sweet story. A24 releases are almost always quality, even if I don't love them all. Happy reading and viewing!

    I’m impressed with how organised you are, and you’ve got some wonderful books on your list. I’ve read The Wren, the Wren for January and have got Day lined up for February. but haven’t decided on the rest yet. Who do you want to win best picture in the Oscars this year??

    • @madeubook
      @madeubook  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks, Sharon! The Wren, the Wren and Day are both books I want to get to this year. I hope you like them!
      As for best picture, I haven’t seen them all yet, but I’m pretty sure that Oppenheimer is going to take it. I enjoyed that movie but it was a little too commercial for me. The last one I watched was American Fiction and I LOVED it!!! It’s based on a Percival Everett book called Erasure and it’s satire at its finest. I know it won’t win but it’s up for a couple awards and maybe it will take one of them.

    • @Showmeyourshelfie
      @Showmeyourshelfie 11 месяцев назад

      I also read The Wren, The Wren for the Read Good January challenge. It was an Irish delight! The book is full of fantastic little rants!
      I also love to watch all the Oscar nominated movies but typically only commit to Best Pic and Best Acto/Actress. So many of the foreign language films are hard to find in advance. Big kudos Gretchen for being such a cinephile. Poor Things is my favorite and I'm just missing the Zone of Interest.

    I'm reading Tender is the Flesh for @benreadsgood challenge this month. I've wanted to read it since you recommended it for spooky season. It's intense. And our May books are the same! :)

      Tender is the Flesh is definitely intense but a great choice for the prompt! And that’s so funny we picked the same book for May! I can’t believe I’ve waited so long to get to it.
