If it weren't for this video with this tool, I wouldn't have installed FLOW because it was conflicting with other addons that I had no idea about. Thanks!
Thank you for that very helpful, (and entertaining), video! I have no doubt that I'm going to replay it because the one thing I'm uncertain of is the actual installation process of Simstaller. I mean, at about 2:23 minutes in the video, it sounded like you were saying that we would select each of the options beginning with the big green “Install MSFS add-on(s)”. Then choose Package Destination, and follow that with Apps Library and finally, New Download Monitoring. I’m certain that I’ve got something wrong but I’m not sure exactly what. In addition, I must ask if Simstaller constantly runs in the background of the system, (either when Windows boots up or only when MSFS is started up). If so, is there a way to disable that? I have MSFS installed on its own dedicated drive, (Drive A). I also have a program “Internet Download Manager”, (IDM), which picks up a download command automatically and places it wherever I choose. Would IDM interfere with Simstaller? I can easily override IDM and have the Windows default downloader pick it up if that’s required. However, would that option then allow Simstaller to grab it? I’m not so sure of how to deal with that, if I must deal with it at all. Anyway, thanks again for the video. I’m not sure that I really need this tool and I can see a possibility of it even creating more work or steps to the add-on installation procedure. As it is, I download the desired program, unzip it, and then drag it into the Community folder. But then, that’s my present understanding of the program and it’s only based on my first and admittingly vague perception at this point. I must stress the fact that I can be entirely wrong about this. I’ll need to investigate it a bit more before I can be sure. Rich
How do you see this working with a tool like MSFS Addons Linker with the library folders fully organized with multiple levels? Do I need to create bookmarks for every single folder I have?
It's right in the video; add a bookmark for each of your directories, and swap as you go thru waves of installs. However, the reality of Addons Linker, is that by going down that path, you have likely accepted the minutia of total management of every single movement. The automation provided by Simstaller may not be in sync with that methodology as it's target is simplification.
This is Great. I have added lots of airport both freeware & payware.. After doing so some of my payware airports are now default airports again.Very upsetting. Will the tool fix my missing payware airports?
This tool isn't going to FIX anything, it may help you identify conflicts. Sounds like you have pretty big sim issues. READ MORE: parallel42.com/blogs/wiki/i-see-potential-conflicts-now-what
Ahhh the underdog, everyone wondered why they needed it, and now they can't live without it ! =) Sign of a great utility !!! Thank you for the kind words.
Can you please do a video to show how Addons Linker integrates with Simstaller? Downloaded it and want to use it - but I don't fully understand the terminology you use in the Setup and unsure of its impact, and I don't want to mess up my system - It's working quite well at the moment.
A feature I wish it had was showing which addons the installer installed into the community folder and the ability to delete that addon if need without going directly into the community folder.
See 3:00 where TTM covers this. You would use the +Add button to add another App Library. The same goes for Package Destination. See 2:15 and 2:45. Again, use the +Add button to add another Package directory (very useful if you use the MSFS Addons Linker application).
Interesting concept and seems fairly well done, but it would be *far* more interesting if it could replace all of the many, many other installers/marketplaces we're expected to run. I already have, I think, four different addon installers and I *really* don't want to have to run/monitor a fifth. Add the ability to use it as an alternative to things like the PMDG, FlyByWire, SimMarket etc. installers and I'll be back in a heartbeat.
That's not really possible due to the fact that those mentioned have their own tools in order to download their products, if you don't use the PMDG installer for their product, you can't update or even initially download your PMDG plane because THEY require it! Would be nice to have all of them centralized but we can't. I always tell my viewers, make sure you keep email notifications on, and just think of that as your notifications for updates!
@@Burstix wouldnt be the marketplace the centralization for the addons? for example the PMDGs are available in the marketplace. not sure about the other big players like the Fenix,... but at least.
@@unclealig marketplace is a preferred store for some to download their add-ons, but for me I'd rather get updates way faster on developers stores, and also, support the developer directly by buying direct from their stores!
@@Parallel42 Yep understood, I'm just making the point that it's yet another installer tool when we already have too many of those to keep up with as-is. At the end of the day, this is a problem Asobo needs to fix or the addon community needs to come together and resolve if they won't. (And the only way for the community to resolve it is to agree on a single installer that everyone defaults to using, something that's unlikely to happen as each organization wants to be the one in control of it, not using someone else's product. I can only see it happening if all the biggest players put their weight behind one single solution, leading the smaller players to follow.) All of that is beyond the scope of your current product, but it would be a huge convenience for end-users who currently have to check installer tool after installer tool on a regular basis or waste system resources running a bunch of them in parallel all the time.
@@Parallel42: how does it behave when installing addons? many addon dev's are recommending to delete the old installation folder, before copying the new files of an update. is simstaller just adding the new installation files into the existing folder of an previously installed addon. example: addon xyz v1 had 3 files within the addon folder (file A, B, and C), addon xyz v2 has now also three files, but partly different ones (file B, C, D). Will Simstaller recognize the difference, so that in the end file A gets deleted (and new files B, C, D are copied)?

Uninstalling/deleting is dangerous territory, especially in Freeware, that's a no-go from us. Additionally, uninstalling isn't always the best choice, you may be well aware of an add-on you have installed, and its requirements to modify certain files.
