A thought-provoking review. This car is for a family man or woman, who is a petrol-head at heart, wants a special one-car-garage, who needs to be able to carry the kids, the dog the bikes on the roof to holiday on the various places in the UK. Someone who, when they have done all their errands and finds themselves alone on a B-road notices that they have massive grin on their face!
Coming from an X5M, it's even more practical to put the Retriever in a M3 Touring. So you somehow had the right clue. ;-) You could ask then the question: "For whom is the X5M?" - but that seems to be another story...
When it’s time to consolidate cars, when the need is for one car only, this is what I’ll get. Currently have a G22 M440i and a G21 320d Touring. What do I use my Touring for? My dogs, in their crate (two Jack Russells), my grandkids and the back seats also used for luggage when we holiday with the dogs in their crate. The M440i is for a bit of performance, love 2 door coupe’s and, yes, a M340i could give me all I need. However, this is an icon, trans European trips, with the dogs, loads of luggage and blistering performance. Consolidating means saving around £1200 a year on VED and insurance with one car instead of two. It’s a no brainer
Great review to me the B3 by Alpina a better car more comfortable but has the power .. now I am not sure what Alpina will do in the future with BMW increased influence we shall see … sadly the state of British roads landrover and other suvs makes them the best cars for the rubbishy uk roads
What do you think? Would you choose the touring over the saloon? Or, should an M3 should have stayed exclusively as a coupe??
Agree, I personally switched from M340i touring to a M3 touring, 340 was a perfect daily but i went for the extra specialness of the M.
I couldn't get a M340i Touring in my market, so M3 Touring it has to be.

Absolutely spot on. The perfect 'everything car' (with even more added convenience)

Now there's an interesting idea. Watch this space...
Buy a touring if you need a touring.. I have an order in for one to replace my M340i (touring), dogs, mountain bikes etc, just gets used.
