    Great review. Thanks for taking the time to do the comparison. If someone really wants to know what works for them go out and give them a try. Just picked one up myself.

      hello my firend, i have a question (sorry my bad english ) the system centrifugal move inside the spool??? in my case I have this doubt with my abus stx gen4 If they are working well or they broke

    • @RyanSmith-fb8rf
      @RyanSmith-fb8rf Год назад

      @@sebastianmch I’ll try to help you out because I have the reel. If they are snapped down against the spool they are off. If they are loose and you can pull them up without any resistance then they are on. I would recommend putting 4 brakes on (so loose) and 2 off (snapped down)but make sure they are on opposite sides. You can fine tune it with the dial on the outside side of the reel. Hope that helps

    Take the head of the brake and
    Push the head back in the direction of the arm that holds it.
    Thats how it works.

    I have the 3rd gen and think the metal drive side cover is the best change. There's a limit where you just need to use metal, i don't care how a company tries to market plastic stuff. plastic is plastic. There is only so much you can do with plastic to make it stronger and more stiff and a proprietary name isn't one those things. I wanted to add that it looks like the handle and knobs are the same ones too. double bearing supported sponge knobs. call it eva or hypalon or whatever you want, its still a stiff dish sponge.

    • @littlegoobie
      @littlegoobie 7 лет назад +1

      keying the drag discs is a fantastic idea. I've seen quite a few instances where it's obvious that only one side of the carbon disc is being used while the other side is stationary against the metal disc (no wear marks on the metal)

    I am deliberating between the Abu Garcia REVO STX Gen 4 Casting Reel and the Abu Garcia REVO MGX2-HS-L Casting Reel. I like the Gull Wing attached side plate design for the STX Gen 4, but I am worried about what I've read regarding the MGX2 side plates flying off the reel for many users. Do you think the MGX2 has a design flaw? Or, do you feel complaints about the MGX2 side plate is attributable to user error??? Do you think the MGX2 is worth the step up in price?????

    Do you have a social media presence? Looking at a few reels in the $100-150 range and wanted to pick your brain. Based on another video, I'm thinking of getting the Curado I. Do you think that's better than the Daiwa CT Type-r? Seems like the Daiwa was backlash prone during your tests. Also looking at a couple Lew's Tournament models. I'm a bank angler, so I need something versatile that can handle a lot of different baits well without being finicky.

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  7 лет назад

      All reels are backlash prone when Im doing distance tests because I run the brakes right on the limit. I would still pick a Curado I or even a Citica I over the Tat CT R. However the R does cast great and either choice would be good. Id still give the edge in distance to the Curado from my experience

    • @pjl626
      @pjl626 7 лет назад

      THE REEL TEST thanks for the response. Looks like I’ll be going toward Shimano then. Reviews of the Lew’s reels show they’re prone to brake noise and one YT reviewer reported loss of smoothness in the crank after a short term of use in the Pro G model. Also looking forward to your $100 reel comparisons. You have a great channel.

    The braking system I believe was only available to Revo 3 premier and up models. Also the free spool design. It's good to see Abu trinkle down these techs to lower models. But now, it looks just like a lews, probably feels like one, too. If it looks like a lews, feels like a lews.....

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  7 лет назад +1

      well to be fair, Doyo made Revos before they made Lews

    • @xiaoyangzhang
      @xiaoyangzhang 7 лет назад

      Hmm, didn't know that. But IMO, I used to be able to tell the differences in the earlier version of lews and revos, given they're from the same assembling line. But nowadays since rev 4 series, the looks and feels of lews and revo have been so close, it's getting harder and harder to tell, including the new BPS reels.

    • @logicalrationalfishing7481
      @logicalrationalfishing7481 7 лет назад

      Agreed, older Gen 1 and 2 Revo's have a much stronger, heavy, yet old school feel. The Gen 3's and above feel very similar. I am strangely a Revo spinning fan, even though they don't compare to my Stradics, I still like them for sale prices and they aren't bad reels. The spinning revo's feel nothing like lew's spinning reels, but they are identical to another Doyo made spinning reel, higher end Pfluegers.

    Bought this reel on a whim one day. Cant stand it. I always have problems with backlashes, no matter what line/test Im using. No matter what I do with the spool tension or brakes. The bearings seem lesser quality as well. Not a few months in and the smoothness that was there out of the box is gone. Now, Im not the greatest with a baitcaster admittedly, but I have ZERO problems with my Lews reel's. The STX collects dust at this point.
    EDIT: After watching this video, it made me want to look deeper into the issue. After removing the spool, I noticed that where it mates with the spool tension knob, it is chewed up and marred to hell. It looks like someone took a screwdriver and stabbed that housing as much as they could. Shitty QC on Abu's part.

    • @logicalrationalfishing7481
      @logicalrationalfishing7481 7 лет назад +1

      This is a strong statement, even solid Revo's are more "Lew's" feeling, at least to me. They do come from the same factory in Korea so that has a lot to do with it.

    do you find the retrieve to be geary? Like its so easy to retrieve you can't feel the bait as well, unlike with shimano you can feel the bait on each turn.

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  7 лет назад +2

      Funny you should mention that, I was messing with the STX and the X side by side and the X felt smoother turning the handle. I attribute that to the spool shaft supporting the pinion on the X while the STX probably has a free floating pinion. Yeah the STX you can feel the gears more turning the handle.
