      I agree! For me I use a cheap 20$ 2 Kg crucible I got from amazon.com. To pour/grab from furnace I use some tongs from a grill or someplace in my basement. For me science I don’t have a lot of money for metal I try to scrap what I can or just go to goodwill and get like baseball bats or crutches. Well good luck melting and be safe.😃🤞

      Ok thanks!👍😁here’s a little story of me being dumb. A few months ago me and my friends where melting but suddenly we ran out of metal to melt so I just dumb of charcoal into the furnace and set the hair dryer to height. Then we put my slag grabber thing into there. Next thing we knew. It Melted! After he was gone and the furnace cooled I found the brittle Chung of steel at the bottom. Unfortunately the home made furnace was broken but it was really fun.

    • @bigstackD
      @bigstackD  6 лет назад

      One tank of propane normally gets me 3 full copper melts 3 to 4 brass melts and 5 to 6 aluminium melts. Each melt you could do 3 or 4 kg . The furnace i use holds the heat so well that when I refire the furnace it only takes a few minutes till the metal is ready to pour again👍🏻

    @jaykay3784 6 лет назад +1

    Oh those coins are so pretty. I really want a furnace of my own. You've definitely inspired me to save up for one. What's your best source of scrap to melt? Any tips on that for a new melter such as myself?

    • @bigstackD
      @bigstackD  6 лет назад +1

      Hey buddy Ive worked on the same industrial site for 20 years and I get all my cables from my electrician friend and out of the scrap bin when I’m allowed to go through it , I started collecting my cables probably two years before I started melting so I have a decent stockpile but unfortunately I cannot get many more cables as often as I would like as the bosses have now stopped allowing us to take them😒but I still get a tiny bit here in there👍🏻
      When it comes to all my other Aluminium and brass I just ask around and normally my friend will drop off heaps of scrap for me so I’m quite lucky that I never really had to go look for it 👍🏻. You might need to ask a small scrapping channel for scrapping tips as that’ll give you a better chance for an answer. Tip would be safety first always , do shit loads of research and watch other casting channels as I’m self taught and probably doing thing completely wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️. Always always preheat your molds 😉

    • @jaykay3784
      @jaykay3784 6 лет назад +1

    I blasted Devil Forge guy pretty good for NOT including rigidizer for their ceramic fiber blanket furnaces in the comments for another one of your videos, so it's only fair I send him some love for starting to do so in this one. I still prefer to build my own foundry gear for much cheaper, but this now looks to be a safe option for those who don't have the time for building equipment or who can't find the materials. They ought to regain some goodwill among the hobbyist metal casting community for this. 👍

    Seems like a lot of work for a bit of money! Hey, money is money but if I'm going to sell it, I sure ain't polishing it too.

      Yeah I love making the coins in copper but I think I need to do a big heap in brass as brass coins sound completely different when you bang em together 👍🏻. And hopefully my personalised stamp gets here soon (and hopefully it’s what I ordered )🤞🏻😁

    I just ordered one the other day waiting for it to arrive I am wondering how well it works

    • @bigstackD
      @bigstackD  6 лет назад

      Yeah mate it works extremely well you won’t be disappointed especially if you got the 10 kg one the burner is phenomenal and so powerful. I live in Australia and my furnace arrived a week before it was due , it only took seven days from Lithuania to Australia which I think is pretty bloody good

    Is it worth it to melt silver or other metals beside what you melt constantly?????

    Great bud! I can't wait till the rigidizer video come out because my foundry wool is all over the place. And did you find major improvement with the new burner than the MDF one?

    • @bigstackD
      @bigstackD  6 лет назад

      Honestly I didn’t notice the difference with the burner. It is just as powerful as one that comes with the furnace I reckon.yeah rigidizer is pretty straight Forward 👍🏻the longest thing is you need to mix it for about 15 minutes before you apply it that’s a lot of mixing😉

      bigstackD Casting I did Aluminium bronze this week! I made 6% aluminium and it turned out like 22 kirat gold. It's amazing! Very shiny. I put it as a decoration to the house entrance. Next weekend I will do 4% and will see if it turns out rose gold or just lighter gold colour.

    • @bigstackD
      @bigstackD  6 лет назад

      Cool bro I normally do 10% but I hear 6% is an awesome golden colour I have done it before and it’s great😁👍🏻

    I love it when you put it on ice.
    I'm not drinker or smoker. (I used to be a heavy drinker and even heavier smoker, "NOT CIGS😎") But you do make it look relaxing, taking a drink at the end. This might be a stupid question and I'm going to try and answer it, when you put the propane in the container then put some water in it, was that to keep it stable or warm OR freezing on the outside???
    Thanks for the great vid, and the update on the weight of different metals on the shelf!!!

    • @bigstackD
      @bigstackD  6 лет назад

      When I use the propane tank really fast it starts to freeze up and the pressure coming out drops off but by putting it in a pool of room temperature water it will stop the tank freezing for a while longer and give me plenty of time to do the rest of my melt👍🏻. Yeah I normally only drink in the warmer months over here so no doubt I’ll take another 4/5 months off the booze but it’s easier said than done 🤔😉🍻🍻🍻🍻

      No worries my friend. I have to respond as quick as possible as its 6 PM now I’ll be in bed in a few hours and that’s when everyone will get up and watch my video And if they leave a heap of comments unfortunately I won’t see half of them as I’ll probably have 100 more Comments on top tomorrow

    As you where sitting down at beer o'clock I wondered what you stockpile was worth and how much weight of each metal you had and bingo un your usual SILENT way you showed exactly that!
    It doesnt really matter if you never create anything with the metals at all what you are doing is stockpiling a hobby income that down the track you could cash in MAYBE for some serious money besides and Heaven forbid it is a craft that if you had a fire in house you probably would loose any of the metal apart from the Aluminum ( remember I live in Toodyay and we had some serious fires a few years back and you should have seen the Mag wheels on the cars melt !)
    So Keep finding the scrap and getting strangely looked at,t maybe from friends But in the end you are the one making a tidy income (:
