I usually listen to heavy metal. Been watching bigstackd for awhile now started to save for my forge can't wait till I do smelting and casting moving metal. Go Aussie blacksmiths keep making cool shot everyone
When you were knocking everything off of the shelves, I could just HEAR the inner voice going "Oh no, now someone has to resort and stack all this up again, how awful" all super sarcastically.
Another awesome one, thank you! I loved seeing the crucible glowing so bright at 3:30 - that looked amazing. And the colors on the coins when you passed the flame on them were just incredible. I love what you do, and I'm very happy that you share it with us.
That’s a shit ton of work for just over a grand. Luckily for us all the entertainment value is worth a hell of a lot more. Another great video mate. 👍🏼
Cheers matey yeah as it’s just a hobby I don’t mind spending a few $ Here and there but I was quite surprised at the low total value that’s for sure🤔👍🏻
These videos are just yet another bonus of it being Friday! And i love the extra touch of including the values! I like to know the total worth of all you have accumulated, that would be interesting
Cool bro I guarantee you won’t be disappointed have fun and remember safety first😉. be sure to tell Devil Forge you saw their forge on my channel😁. I don’t get nothing for it but it’ll show I’m a good source of advertisement for the future 👍🏻
I agree! For me I use a cheap 20$ 2 Kg crucible I got from amazon.com. To pour/grab from furnace I use some tongs from a grill or someplace in my basement. For me science I don’t have a lot of money for metal I try to scrap what I can or just go to goodwill and get like baseball bats or crutches. Well good luck melting and be safe.😃🤞
Ok thanks!👍😁here’s a little story of me being dumb. A few months ago me and my friends where melting but suddenly we ran out of metal to melt so I just dumb of charcoal into the furnace and set the hair dryer to height. Then we put my slag grabber thing into there. Next thing we knew. It Melted! After he was gone and the furnace cooled I found the brittle Chung of steel at the bottom. Unfortunately the home made furnace was broken but it was really fun.
First time I saw this channel I liked it get done watching to realize that this man always ends with a can of beer than i realize that this man also made of Vanoss silver icon I'm a new subscriber now ☺👍
Yes, copper cools faster than any other metal i reckon. The first time I poured, I didn’t realise how fast it would cool and it actually went hard midpour while it was leaving the crucible it was a very interesting ingot. It’s a shame I didn’t film that one🤔
Damn bro somehow I didn’t get this notification. I think cause I was filming for my next vid 🤷🏻♂️ those coins came out shiny as s*#^! Great job and good to see the value of everything! Well done my friend 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🍺🍺🍺 wish I saw it sooner
The before and after part was so satisfying, keep up mate 👍🏻 also can you please do more of trash to treasure videos? Like turning absolute junk to cool things. these were amazing.
Thanks mate I’m glad you liked it. Yeah they’ll be heaps of trash to treasure next year as people seem to love that and I have a lot of scrap lying around, 👍🏻😁. I have a few ideas I want to try with my scrap I really hope they turn out how I am planning in my head🤞🏻
Another great video sir! It be cool to see you do a mega copper pour. Something like three 10 pound bars. Maybe in the near future. Keep up the great work,I dig your videos.👍👍
Thats so beutiful what you creat its winderful ! And i have a question can you maybe make the melting sound longer in your videos i love the sound when the devil forge melting
wow we see that you like to melt all kinds of metals and I think you too and btw beautiful collection of beautiful treasure I wish you a wonderful continuity
Hey D, I could totally watch you do your thing for days straight! Were you feeling a bit destructive on this particular day? I'm usually tickled by the way you smash what's left of the ice with the ingot or coins you've just casted but this video had it all...literally. I bet if anyone else cleared your shelves the way you just did it would piss you off royally huh? I hope you didn't do any damage to the beautiful mirrored finishes that you work so hard to achieve. As far as I'm concerned, here lately I can't seem to get enough. You are the bomb!!! 👍😅😎😉👍
It’s actually solid stainless steel pipe with the centre removed with a lathe. I really need a whole heap of these so I can just do the poor in one go😉👍🏻
Great video! Last week I had molten aluminium running down my driveway after my crucible failed. Everything is fine now, and I may have a similar video up sometime soon. :-)
"A lot less than I thought", but that is just raw materials value. I'd consider them very high value were you to sell them retail .... And personally Priceless since you put a piece of your soul in each one. Cheers!
Love your videos. Off your recommendation I've ordered the devil forge. One question How do I stop getting so much slag. Can I add something into the copper.
I have to say I find your videos so relaxing, but I was wondering: If you did one pour each time you fired up, about how many would you get from one tank of propane?
One tank of propane normally gets me 3 full copper melts 3 to 4 brass melts and 5 to 6 aluminium melts. Each melt you could do 3 or 4 kg . The furnace i use holds the heat so well that when I refire the furnace it only takes a few minutes till the metal is ready to pour again👍🏻
Oh those coins are so pretty. I really want a furnace of my own. You've definitely inspired me to save up for one. What's your best source of scrap to melt? Any tips on that for a new melter such as myself?
Hey buddy Ive worked on the same industrial site for 20 years and I get all my cables from my electrician friend and out of the scrap bin when I’m allowed to go through it , I started collecting my cables probably two years before I started melting so I have a decent stockpile but unfortunately I cannot get many more cables as often as I would like as the bosses have now stopped allowing us to take them😒but I still get a tiny bit here in there👍🏻 When it comes to all my other Aluminium and brass I just ask around and normally my friend will drop off heaps of scrap for me so I’m quite lucky that I never really had to go look for it 👍🏻. You might need to ask a small scrapping channel for scrapping tips as that’ll give you a better chance for an answer. Tip would be safety first always , do shit loads of research and watch other casting channels as I’m self taught and probably doing thing completely wrong 🤷🏻♂️. Always always preheat your molds 😉
@@bigstackD thanks for the info. I saw the video showing the dangers of not preheating the mold. Expanding steam and molten metal are not a good combo. I'll keep an eye out for metal. Keep the shiny ingots coming.
Make a 2 section quench tank - one section large enough to hold the gas bottle. Dunk your hot metal castings in the other section => instant hot water for the gas bottle.
I blasted Devil Forge guy pretty good for NOT including rigidizer for their ceramic fiber blanket furnaces in the comments for another one of your videos, so it's only fair I send him some love for starting to do so in this one. I still prefer to build my own foundry gear for much cheaper, but this now looks to be a safe option for those who don't have the time for building equipment or who can't find the materials. They ought to regain some goodwill among the hobbyist metal casting community for this. 👍
Yes definitely a good move on their behalf. They were always going to do it but they’re we’re trying to build the business up and obviously got sidetracked. I tell you worldtraveller who I subscribe to who does a lot of lost wax casting tore devil forge to shreds in the comments over no rigidizer 🤭
You should make a 3-coin mold. Like take 3 of those short round coin mold, weld them together in a triangular shape and then weld a handle to one of them so you can pour and tap out 3 faster.
You really need to experience the wonders of acids, my friend. All of the dross you generate, you could recover SO much metal from it with a bit of processing. And acids are safer than burning stuff as long as you take some basic precautions. There's a ton of copper purification videos right here on RUclips that could get you started.
Yeah I love making the coins in copper but I think I need to do a big heap in brass as brass coins sound completely different when you bang em together 👍🏻. And hopefully my personalised stamp gets here soon (and hopefully it’s what I ordered )🤞🏻😁
Yeah mate it works extremely well you won’t be disappointed especially if you got the 10 kg one the burner is phenomenal and so powerful. I live in Australia and my furnace arrived a week before it was due , it only took seven days from Lithuania to Australia which I think is pretty bloody good
Great bud! I can't wait till the rigidizer video come out because my foundry wool is all over the place. And did you find major improvement with the new burner than the MDF one?
Honestly I didn’t notice the difference with the burner. It is just as powerful as one that comes with the furnace I reckon.yeah rigidizer is pretty straight Forward 👍🏻the longest thing is you need to mix it for about 15 minutes before you apply it that’s a lot of mixing😉
bigstackD Casting I did Aluminium bronze this week! I made 6% aluminium and it turned out like 22 kirat gold. It's amazing! Very shiny. I put it as a decoration to the house entrance. Next weekend I will do 4% and will see if it turns out rose gold or just lighter gold colour.
Wow what a nice burner! I think I will order the forge as a christmas present for me this year 🤣 hope I"ll be in business early 2019. I love it when you put it on ice. I'm not drinker or smoker. (I used to be a heavy drinker and even heavier smoker, "NOT CIGS😎") But you do make it look relaxing, taking a drink at the end. This might be a stupid question and I'm going to try and answer it, when you put the propane in the container then put some water in it, was that to keep it stable or warm OR freezing on the outside??? Thanks for the great vid, and the update on the weight of different metals on the shelf!!!
When I use the propane tank really fast it starts to freeze up and the pressure coming out drops off but by putting it in a pool of room temperature water it will stop the tank freezing for a while longer and give me plenty of time to do the rest of my melt👍🏻. Yeah I normally only drink in the warmer months over here so no doubt I’ll take another 4/5 months off the booze but it’s easier said than done 🤔😉🍻🍻🍻🍻
No worries my friend. I have to respond as quick as possible as its 6 PM now I’ll be in bed in a few hours and that’s when everyone will get up and watch my video And if they leave a heap of comments unfortunately I won’t see half of them as I’ll probably have 100 more Comments on top tomorrow
As you where sitting down at beer o'clock I wondered what you stockpile was worth and how much weight of each metal you had and bingo un your usual SILENT way you showed exactly that! It doesnt really matter if you never create anything with the metals at all what you are doing is stockpiling a hobby income that down the track you could cash in MAYBE for some serious money besides and Heaven forbid it is a craft that if you had a fire in house you probably would loose any of the metal apart from the Aluminum ( remember I live in Toodyay and we had some serious fires a few years back and you should have seen the Mag wheels on the cars melt !)
