- What are the dominant perceptions of Canadian identity? Riley Yesno questions if they are truly as accurate as we may think they are. She will challenge us to think critically about the identities we create and their ability to be changed. Ultimately, her talk will leave you asking: Is it time to reimagine Canada’s identity? Riley Yesno is an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, a former member of the Prime Minister's Youth Council and an Indigenous Rights advocate. Her talk will reflect on dominant perceptions of Canadian identity, and question if they are truly as accurate as we may think they are. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
Brazil is a very nice country, except by two problems: the government and the people.
This is so sad! I’m with this girl! Canada you are such a disappointment!!! You need to treat your INDIGENOUS PEOPLES BETTER! Protect them at all costs better yet they should come to America!! Natives get treated good here come to California ❤
I'm happy that my school/instructor sent me this video.
thank you for this talk, lots of people don’t realize that canada is a country with a lot of racism too, especially towards indigenous people
I am a woman from Pakistan and when you mentioned the woman that came up to you, it was impossible not to shed a tear.
I’m a Canadian and, we didn’t make the nice identity...other people did.....and I believe we are very polite
How come no one has seen this?
Way to go Riley! I'm so proud of my Anishnabe sister. Keep up your brilliance, light, and energy! 🖤
I was so shocked when I started reading about the Aboriginal Indigenous peoples and horrific cruelty perpetrated against aboriginal children in Residential Schools and the murders of Indegenous young women.Worse even than Apartheid in South Africa. The United Nations called it a genocide. How I didn't know about these horrors when I took my Canadian citizenship in 1973. Thanks for the talk Tecumseh!
In ‘67 i was 12 and naiively proud to be canadian (raised in multicultural dt TO). In 2012, idle no more cracked my shell of ignorance and felt shame ever since. And the injustice continues and seems to get worse, except since may there might be hope that more of us settlers are finally waking up. Thanks for your speaking :)
Thank you. Ppl are waking up.
great talk!
I don’t find Canadians so nice. They are polite but it is fake. Most of them are cold and it is so hard to make friends, it is the North American individualism. They don’t have a lot of hospitality and they culture and curiosity levels are low. If I generalize I would say that they are passive-aggressive.
Depends where you are. I have lived in Alberta, BC and Newfoundland, and the people in Newfoundland ARE nice and awesome and they make the "niceness" out west seem exactly as you say. Newfoundland is the best.
I agree . I had the Canadian citizenship and I came to alberta as in Greece last years we had a huge financial crisis.
But i realized that here things aren't what they say , ,I ll go back ,weather and people there are better ,and maybe less income but less cost of life
someone summarize this
yes please, someone summarize
So 1 quote=A FACT????
Mfw this woman tries to convince me of something I already know
