Damien trying to act like a victim is so insane to me actually. He literally admits to teasing and annoying Theo ON PURPOSE because he believed that was the only way to get closer to him, essentially blaming Theo for his poor communication skills. He even proceeds to imply that he should be grateful for being teased and harassed as if he’s some sort of high value man. Here’s a crazy thought, if someone doesn’t want to talk to you, either leave them be or BE PATIENT AND DON’T HARASS THEM. That’s not where this ends though. Before this, Damien got offended at the comment Theo made when his dad came to visit, which is slightly more understandable. No one can stop you from feeling your feelings even if the person who hurt you didn’t mean anything by it. However, Damien then tries to claim that Theo is self-centered and doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings because he doesn’t know about his personal trauma surrounding his parents? To Theo, you’re just the weird coworker who gets off on being annoying, not his best friend. Why would he care enough to know about your daddy issues, like get over yourself jfc. We need to stop normalizing toxic male romance tropes. It only teaches society that men can’t control their emotions and that their aggression and harassment is actually a love language. And the fact that Damien never actually apologizes to Theo for being consistently mean to him, yet Theo’s the one who has to coddle him? Once again encouraging the idea that men like Damien shouldn’t be held accountable because they “only meant well.” Theo was absolutely under no obligation to apologize this heavily to Damien and this story sucks.
I was wondering about the same thing. Yes Theo did mess up, but Damien too also did his part in the shenanigans. And Theo genuinely didn’t know. Besides Damien had also messed up with his work earlier that day. It wasn’t unilaterally anyone’s fault. Both of them had messed up.
