Today we wanted to visit slab city the only free place to live without no laws No water and no electricity we wanted to experience how the people lived there is it a dangerous place? We went to Salton Sea from there We went to salvation Mountain and then to the heart of slab city it was a really good experience

Giv I lived in the USA from 1985 to 1995 and I understand a lot of people's nostalgia from the 80s but it was completely different from how it was portrayed in the film's of that time. Yeah it was a great time both personally and culturally but we had a feeling when we where partying it would come to an end at any moment, we all felt we where on enjoying the last days. America was also changing and with every generational shift happening with that came a new technological and social change we also saw the freedoms we had slipping away. With the social, cultural and demographic changes that have happened in that period the 80s seem to capture the last of what America once was and I can see the attraction. I visit America every 5 years or so from the UK as I have children in the US and can see the massive decline from the 80s especially in California, New York and Florida. I hope the US can recapture that liberty we had but I doubt it as American society has moved on so much, with advent of the internet, social media and 24 hour media people have become glued to it ,we had freedom to make mistakes as there was noone to record it also the freedoms we had as a given back then are now seen as a problem by today's society.

I watched videos about Slab City several years ago and I wouldn't stay a night there either. I like that old mailbox for it's just like the one I had as a kid during a much simpler era of American history when houses were cheap and one could have a backyard vegetable garden. $10,000 in 1985 or earlier got you a whole house on a acre lot in a small town and not much more in the suburbs. No internet nor cable TV, but we had a TV with 3 channels exactly like those old broken box TV's, a really cool stereo jambox with 3 rock stations, and that good old mail box standing out front to order Gurney heirloom seeds and things. It had a little red flag you put up to indicate that you put mail in it for the mailman to collect where snail mail was actually a 2 way communication system. It was all snail mail order catalogs and everything including gas itself was rock bottom cheap for America had a happening economic system being the super power of the world once so proud to be the United States of America. The USA thrived awesomely well for many years, but that is all history. Even as a poor kid, I ate well and we had a great spirit going compared to now though there were always mean hateful individuals throughout society just like we have today, but not a constant annoyance and nuissance like today for people had style, culture, hopes, and dreams on fire in their hearts instead of being divided and getting ready for the country to have a big falling out. I'm so thankful I'm not explaining any of it to kids for I don't have kids.

They sure don't breed them like good ol Leonard no more. Leonard himself was too good for this earth. For somebody who spent most of his life in the desert he sure was Aquaman aswell. Leonard at the hot springs held his breath underwater for over 4 minutes. People used to hang around or jump in to check in him make sure he didn't drown. 24k heart of gold with a platinum spirit that man was truly precious. Sure do miss him. I would love to build a pond and attach a pump to bring those waterfalls he painted to life even if it's just for one night Leonard deserves it. I appreciate your kind words.

if you want to see how this area was 25 years ago look up an old Huell Howser Californias Gold 8 Jan 1997. It has an interview with Leonard Knight of Salvation Mountain and the Snowbirds that inhabit Slab City in the winter.
Huell was awesome. I enjoyed watching his episodes, including his Slab adventure.

As for the Salton Sea, it was created in the early 1900's by the failure of a canal being built. When they stopped the flow of water it started to evaporate increasing the salinity which destroyed it, and everything around it.
While liberals do destroy everything they touch, the rich and famous weren't liberals back then, and it wasn't their fault. If the Salton Sea was still a beautiful oasis today, the Liberal Land Of Make Believe residents would surely destroy it though. 😂

I became her full time care taker after being diagnosed with M.S. in 2019 and we soon after began watching your videos. I drove down there once or twice with this vagabond family and found it a desolate place. The places burned out were the tweakers and methheads that caused trouble and robbed folks. There's a bunch of winter old folks who go down there but in a different area. The place gave me the creeps but this dude dragged his wife and kids down there because he liked it. He was a real conman. He had an 18 year old daughter he used as bait to scam guys and he almost got me involved in blackmailing an LA sheriff's lieutenant. I said no thanks and he suddenly turned on me. Weird times back then. I had a big RV I moved around LA while I worked in the limousine industry. LA got too weird so I left finally after 13 years. Looks like the people are all hiding, most are more than strange.

I watched a few videos about Slab City a few years ago, but you showed us this place the best way and in the best light in my opinion. You took your time to show us what you saw and that was pretty cool. I also liked it when you were both interactive with the art. I especially liked the sword fight. And the dancing? OMG! You were both cool and so much fun to watch.
There are so many of us who live to far away visit this lawless place, so I would really like to thank the both of you for making it so much fun for all of us. I remember a few years ago going down a slab city RUclips video rabbit hole. There are some great videos on slab city and it was fun to see your visit! I love graffiti art, upcycled art and dilapidated things so I find it quite interesting. Great dance sequence 🕺
That "Mountain" the core is hay bales, its not all dirt. And Slab City has laws. County Sheriff has full authority and jurisdiction. Also from what I've heard Social Services goes through to check on children who are there. Dude there is nothing "Free" about it. You have to buy water, and create or buy electricity. I've a friend who goes there every winter.

Yep, one is expected to bring their supplies and even contribute though I'm sure lots of people show up without tanks of water and supplies just sponging around like hippies wishing nonstop for socialism. I guess a mass commune can be a socialist system where everyone contribute to the community effort and shared resources, but you are right, it's not free though people are really looking for a place to live. If there was another country or a fresh new deal, half of everyone in the US would be lining up to be first in line.

How would you describe the people and culture of Slab City? I probably won't ever go, but it's just very different though I'm sure we'd have hundreds of such places all across the country if the police allowed it. I see no problem with communes and camps away from the city, schools, and real estate speculators.
