'No': Dutch prime minister awkwardly interrupts President Trump

- The Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte, disagreed with the US president, Donald Trump, in a White House photo-op on Monday. The president referred to upcoming discussions between the US and the EU around trade deals and tried to joke that if the discussions failed it could be positive. Rutte quickly injected with a strong "No" and a smile.
Trump replied with a comment about the car industry, but Rutte followed up quickly with: "It's not positive. We have to work something out."

There was nothing awkward about PM Rutte's interuption, he sounded very confident and assured that he was correct in what he was saying.

It's an English viewpoint (as seen by me, a Dutchwoman in England who's previously lived in the US). Because they were on a public stage and in the US. Rutte was the "guest" who "misbehaved" in the eyes of the Guardian, I assume.

The Dutch PM then speaks out, very out of protocol, to state that NO only a cooperative agreement will be a positive result. So he corrects the US president in front of running cameras, pretty savage to me.

I'm from Belgium and absolutely love the Dutch. Trustworthy, to the point, very honest but at the same time so nice and helpful. Everytime I go to the Netherlands is like coming home. They're like the Germans in terms of efficiency, but much friendlier. Germans in my opinion lack the friendliness. So glad I live so close to the Dutch and so glad I speak the language too. No One the special shops are coffeeshops. There is weed and hasj and they have different effects (most of the time). Most people feel more stoned/chilled out by using weed and more high/tripy when using hasj but that can vary depending on the plant. Just ask for pre-rolled weed and you'll be fine.
First time can be shitty tho, some people take on way too much, some don't feel a thing (me). Oh and the most fun is to make spacecake with friends and chill out for the day. But that can really go wrong so you'll probably need someone with experience.

As a Dutchman, I have to say what we see as direct communication is often seen as rude international. On the other hand we perceive sugarcoating as a waste of valuable time and that is rude in the Netherlands. In this case: mr. Trump,as usual, was blabbing on and our prime minister was not impressed, at all. Like most of the world.
As a German, I totally get it. Faked friendliness are such a waste of time.

Both the Dutch King and the Prime Minister have had jobs outside of the Dutch Government during their time in government. The King was an airline pilot until 2018 and the PM is a teacher at a high school. Both also get really bored at UN meetings. He is by far the most popular politician in The Netherlands, even though - as a prime minister - he gets a lot of criticism. Still his party is the largest by far, and that is what counts when push comes to shove.
