Umm, about the "The last of his kind" line, thats a total inaccuracy. As three Spartan II's from his old squad are confirmed to be alive, and not to mention the fact that at least one Spartan III is alive, the only confirmed one that i know how being Jun from Halo Reach, and its possible that the four Spartan II's from Halo War's Red Team are alive as well, though the last thing i saw of them was them getting their asses handed to them in the Halo Wars 2 trailer by Brutes. But anyway, the point of this rant is that saying that the Chief is the last of his kind, meaning the last Spartan II or the last spartan in general, is inaccurate on all fronts.
Jake Walky ...Unlikely as hes already known other Spartans for decades before now. The Spartans on his team in Halo 5 are the Spartans from the original Blue Team he led, he also led two additional Spartan teams at the same time as the beloved Blue Team. Now you would never know this if you had not read the books. Also, why would It be about meeting other Spartans? 343 Seems to be going the route of a big, almost space opera story kinda like what Bungie did, so little things like that, which already happened in the books, would never be the focus.

In the book the Fall of Reach doctor Haulsey stated that Jon is not the best Spartan, Sam was the strongest spartan, Kelly was the fastest, And I don't think it's ever said who was the smartest. Master Chief was just the luckiest of all 33 Spartans.

Funny you sit here praising the books and talking shit about Halo 4. Halo 4 brought enough of the Kilo-5 trilogy into the game that I've had to replay it while reading each one. And don't lie, Spartan Ops was a brilliant extension of the campaign, instead of relying on 14 year olds teabagging each other while they talk about how they did your mom last night to extend the life of the game. I wish the previous ones had included such a thing for the Spartan-IIIs. I have to admit, though, Halo 4's depiction of the Didact doesn't jive so well with what I've gotten from the first book of the Forerunner trilogy. I also hope that Halo 5 will directly address the Precursors. It'll be a big disappointment if they don't. :\

For those who haven't been keeping with Halo 5 at all, Fred, Kelly, and Linda are to accompany Chief throughout the entire game.

Can I just say this is one of my favorite videos of The Story You Never Knew series. Cheesy, but that's the way I like it. It's corny and I love the Treesicle team for it.
He's not the last of his kind though, even in Combat Evolved. He was just the only one mentioned. But other than the small details that are incorrect, it was a relatively fantastic video.
Also when he flips the coin, he watches it spin, catching it on the side that he called. It wasn't luck, he intentionally caught it on that side so he would be correct.

There are some finite details here that are incorrect but whatever, they are the kind of details that hardcore halo fans like myself and so many others notice. I saw that comment correcting your pronunciation of 117. Did it really piss him off that much. I have played every halo game multiple times and your pronunciation did not eve slightly anger me
I don't mean to nitpick, but the video fucks up a ton of info. First they got his height/weight with and without the suit wrong (7 foot, 1000 pounds in suit, 6'7" 287 pounds without suit), they claim he is the last Spartan II remaining (there are at least a dozen others left plus some Spartan IIIs and a ton of Spartan IVs), and he was not the tallest or biggest or strongest or fastest or even the smartest of the Spartan II's, he was just the best all around, the best leader, and the luckiest of them. Some other basic info is not presented correctly, for instance; the Covenent high prophets don't think that they will be killed by the rings, they think that they as true believers will reach "transcendence" with the forerunners, their entire religion is based on a gross misunderstanding of forerunner records. The only part that they are knowingly being "false" about is their war on humanity and that is because when they find out that the forerunner tech was meant for future humans to operate, they fear that such a revelation would destroy their religion based society that assumes that the prophet's own species is destined to operate the forerunner made rings, which would break their religious mandated control over the other species in the covenant.
Thanks for your comment/concern! His height/weight stats vary depending on the sources. We went with the more conservative numbers to keep from exaggerating. You can find the stats we used directly from the John-117 Halo Wiki as well as other sources. When we say he was the tallest/fastest in his class we are referring to his classmates on Eridanus II (just normal children). We made no comparisons between John and the other Spartans. You're right in saying the Covenant believe they will ascend to The Great Journey, but that will only happen when their material body is killed. They will be killed in this life, however they plan to survive in an "afterlife". When we mention the Covenant as false prophets, we make no mention of whether they are knowingly being false. We only say that they are wrong and the reasons for that were not discussed because we felt it was not relevant to the content of the video. As for Master Chief being the last spartan, it was said in Halo CE and Halo 3 that he was the last Spartan II. However according to later releases (mostly books from what I recall) the story was changed to have other surviving Spartan II's. Like many "facts" in video game series, the validity of certain things depend on where you look and what you believe. Perhaps we shouldn't have been so certain about it. Thanks for laying out your concern instead of leaving a generic, negative comment.

I can see where it might be going.
Treesicle OK cool. The basis is that each of the prophets had a history of acting counter to their title and then died in such an ironic way. Regret was the most impulsive and reckless of the Prophets and he showed little to no regret for any of his actions (such as blackmail of the previous prophets, screwing up Truth's plan to use insurrectionist humans from "the rubble" to locate Earth in 2535, and his ill fated expedition to Earth that obviously was not properly scouted for beforehand, along with allowing "the demon" Master Chief to reach Halo installation 05. Even before master chief punchasized his face into oblivion, it was clear that the other prophets wanted him dead, calling back their horde of phantoms with troops on their way to save Regret and opting to glass the structure instead. His two closes friends and peers not only did not regret his death, they used it to make a move against the Elites. Truth was the most vocal speaker (and liar) for the Prophets, lying to and manipulating virtually all those around him including the other prophets (overall he displays many sociopath like tendencies), even allowing both of his fellow prophets to die very preventable deaths and lying to cover for the fact that he was simply consolidating power. His ironic death was what the Arbiter said when dispatching him, that he was "silencing" Truth's lies. Mercy showed no mercy for either humanity who he knew were not guilty of the heresy that they were charged with (even with his dying statement to MC) or for Thel Vadamee during his trial, being the most vocal in condemning Thel, and he likewise showed no mercy to Thel in ordering his betrayal by Tartarus despite the great works he had done for the Covenent as Arbiter. His Ironic death was in the fact that when attacked by a flood spore, Truth ordered him to be left be when he could have been saved, not even ordering Tartarus to deliver him a death blow to prevent his being slowly eaten and turned into a flood organism. Master Chief was the one who showed mercy by instantly killing both the flood spore and the Prophet when he ripped it out of the prophet's throat. Also on a related note, Noble team's deaths were ironic. --Kat, the brilliant one who thinks of the ops and is their intel specialist gets shot in her head --Jorge who was sentimental and protective of the planet Reach, dies thinking he had just saved the planet from destruction --Emile who is repeatedly seen playing with his knife, is stabbed to death and uses his knife to kill the Elite who mortally wounded him --Carter the team leader, sacrifices himself for his remaining men by flying his pelican into a Scarab to clear the way for them ----Spartan B312 the new guy who used to operate "as a lone wolf" in his last assignment, dies alone and surrounded, as a lone, cornered wolf.

Simeon Overbo Really? I guess I missed something. Because as far as I know, the only Spartans still active are the handful of Spartan IIs and Spartan IIIs, along with Infinity's Spartan IVs. I'd assume that the Third batch was shut down completely since they'd have to go back to enlisting children, but with the war technically 'over' and Halsey no longer working for the UNSC, that would unnecessary. To my knowledge, the Fourth program is the only active Spartan Program that's still pumping out more recruits. The surviving Spartans from older programs were offered a chance to be integrated into the Spartan IV program, however.
I'll have to reread Ghosts of Onyx, but I'm fairly sure they referenced a tertiary phase of recruits for the III's after the one on Onyx proper. If I'm wrong, my apologies for wasting anyone's time.

This is a brilliant video and after thinking about it for a while I realized that halo has more religious parallels. In the book of revelations (a book from the bible.) there are seven Angels and one angels blows into a horn when something bad happens. Eg. The first horn is sounded at world war 1 and the second at world war 2. So far 6 of the 7 horns have been sounded with the sixth one being blown when the trouble in the Middle East started. I thought to myself "could the covenant trying to activate halo in the games be representing the seventh horn being blown?" Because the seventh horn being blown is supposed to signal the end of the world and the halo ring destroys all sentient life in the universe which is almost the same thing. It is also said that when the final horn is sounded gods army will fight the Devils army and halo represents this by having the humans fight the covenant. It's very interesting when you think about it.

Also when he flips the coin, he watches it spin, catching it on the side that he called. It wasn't luck, he intentionally caught it on that side so he would be correct.

There are some finite details here that are incorrect but whatever, they are the kind of details that hardcore halo fans like myself and so many others notice. I don't mean to nitpick, but the video fucks up a ton of info. First they got his height/weight with and without the suit wrong (7 foot, 1000 pounds in suit, 6'7" 287 pounds without suit), they claim he is the last Spartan II remaining (there are at least a dozen others left plus some Spartan IIIs and a ton of Spartan IVs), and he was not the tallest or biggest or strongest or fastest or even the smartest of the Spartan II's, he was just the best all around, the best leader, and the luckiest of them. Some other basic info is not presented correctly, for instance; the Covenent high prophets don't think that they will be killed by the rings, they think that they as true believers will reach "transcendence" with the forerunners, their entire religion is based on a gross misunderstanding of forerunner records. The only part that they are knowingly being "false" about is their war on humanity and that is because when they find out that the forerunner tech was meant for future humans to operate, they fear that such a revelation would destroy their religion based society that assumes that the prophet's own species is destined to operate the forerunner made rings, which would break their religious mandated control over the other species in the covenant.

His height/weight stats vary depending on the sources. We went with the more conservative numbers to keep from exaggerating. You can find the stats we used directly from the John-117 Halo Wiki as well as other sources. When we say he was the tallest/fastest in his class we are referring to his classmates on Eridanus II (just normal children). We made no comparisons between John and the other Spartans. You're right in saying the Covenant believe they will ascend to The Great Journey, but that will only happen when their material body is killed. They will be killed in this life, however they plan to survive in an "afterlife".
When we mention the Covenant as false prophets, we make no mention of whether they are knowingly being false. We only say that they are wrong and the reasons for that were not discussed because we felt it was not relevant to the content of the video.
As for Master Chief being the last spartan, it was said in Halo CE and Halo 3 that he was the last Spartan II. However according to later releases (mostly books from what I recall) the story was changed to have other surviving Spartan II's. Like many "facts" in video game series, the validity of certain things depend on where you look and what you believe. Perhaps we shouldn't have been so certain about it.

We are planning to release other content besides The Story You Never Knew at some point, and things like that are what we're considering. Care to elaborate on how the death of each prophet is ironic? I can see where it might be going.
Treesicle OK cool. The basis is that each of the prophets had a history of acting counter to their title and then died in such an ironic way.
Regret was the most impulsive and reckless of the Prophets and he showed little to no regret for any of his actions (such as blackmail of the previous prophets, screwing up Truth's plan to use insurrectionist humans from "the rubble" to locate Earth in 2535, and his ill fated expedition to Earth that obviously was not properly scouted for beforehand, along with allowing "the demon" Master Chief to reach Halo installation 05. Even before master chief punchasized his face into oblivion, it was clear that the other prophets wanted him dead, calling back their horde of phantoms with troops on their way to save Regret and opting to glass the structure instead. His two closes friends and peers not only did not regret his death, they used it to make a move against the Elites.
Truth was the most vocal speaker (and liar) for the Prophets, lying to and manipulating virtually all those around him including the other prophets (overall he displays many sociopath like tendencies), even allowing both of his fellow prophets to die very preventable deaths and lying to cover for the fact that he was simply consolidating power. His ironic death was what the Arbiter said when dispatching him, that he was "silencing" Truth's lies.
Mercy showed no mercy for either humanity who he knew were not guilty of the heresy that they were charged with (even with his dying statement to MC) or for Thel Vadamee during his trial, being the most vocal in condemning Thel, and he likewise showed no mercy to Thel in ordering his betrayal by Tartarus despite the great works he had done for the Covenent as Arbiter. His Ironic death was in the fact that when attacked by a flood spore, Truth ordered him to be left be when he could have been saved, not even ordering Tartarus to deliver him a death blow to prevent his being slowly eaten and turned into a flood organism. Master Chief was the one who showed mercy by instantly killing both the flood spore and the Prophet when he ripped it out of the prophet's throat.
Also on a related note, Noble team's deaths were ironic.

--Jorge who was sentimental and protective of the planet Reach, dies thinking he had just saved the planet from destruction
--Emile who is repeatedly seen playing with his knife, is stabbed to death and uses his knife to kill the Elite who mortally wounded him
--Carter the team leader, sacrifices himself for his remaining men by flying his pelican into a Scarab to clear the way for them
----Spartan B312 the new guy who used to operate "as a lone wolf" in his last assignment, dies alone and surrounded, as a lone, cornered wolf.

Simeon Overbo Really? I guess I missed something. Because as far as I know, the only Spartans still active are the handful of Spartan IIs and Spartan IIIs, along with Infinity's Spartan IVs. I'd assume that the Third batch was shut down completely since they'd have to go back to enlisting children, but with the war technically 'over' and Halsey no longer working for the UNSC, that would unnecessary.
To my knowledge, the Fourth program is the only active Spartan Program that's still pumping out more recruits. The surviving Spartans from older programs were offered a chance to be integrated into the Spartan IV program, however.
I'll have to reread Ghosts of Onyx, but I'm fairly sure they referenced a tertiary phase of recruits for the III's after the one on Onyx proper. If I'm wrong, my apologies for wasting anyone's time.

This is a brilliant video and after thinking about it for a while I realized that halo has more religious parallels. In the book of revelations (a book from the bible.) there are seven Angels and one angels blows into a horn when something bad happens. Eg. The first horn is sounded at world war 1 and the second at world war 2. So far 6 of the 7 horns have been sounded with the sixth one being blown when the trouble in the Middle East started. I thought to myself "could the covenant trying to activate halo in the games be representing the seventh horn being blown?" Because the seventh horn being blown is supposed to signal the end of the world and the halo ring destroys all sentient life in the universe which is almost the same thing. It is also said that when the final horn is sounded gods army will fight the Devils army and halo represents this by having the humans fight the covenant. It's very interesting when you think about it.
