I got into Anime in about '95. In two months I watched ghost in the shell, cyber city oedo 808, akira, legend of the overfiend, doomed megalopolis, ninja scroll, Gyver, fist of the North Star etc. Needless to say, I was hooked.
I got into anime 1995 to when i just started 1st grade elementary elementary school i started watching sailor moon i went from small time to big fish and i had to get up early sometimes to watch it
Wow anime in 90"s was so awesome I was born in 1989 with autism I started to watch anime in 1st grade elementary school after i outgrow barney and friends i started to watch sailor moon i watched more anime like dragon ball z and worked my way up to big fish and big ones before 2000"s like pokemon digimon dragon ball z monster rancher

Thank you so much for producing these videos! As a teen I avoided anime for quite some time, because I only knew of Dragon Ball, Pokemon and Sailor Moon and the likes and felt too old for this ... but with 16 I saw Serial Experiments Lain the first time and it blew me away! That opened the door to the more adult and artistic anime out there. It was incredibly inspiring. Anime is such a powerful medium ... :)
Wow, so many popular, influential and successful anime came out in the 1990s. It would make me think that the 90s were the most important decade for Anime so far. To think that Cowboy Bebop wasn't that successful in Japan, I'm happy that Adultswim picked. I liked The End of Evangelion more than Neon Genesis.
Didn't know Ghost in the shell had such a big effect. Love that Film, I'm surprised serial experiments Lain was mentioned, not many people have seen it.
aaron Gregor Agreed, I knew that GitS and NGE had a big influence, but not THAT much. Even taking away the hard sci-fi/symbolism aspect, the animation is just mind-blowing compared to what came before. Another reason to love both forever I guess.
Anime in the 90s was pretty much Hollywood in the 70s-80s it seems. It will probably never be that good again, although anime still seems to be going well despite the doomsday whispers everyone has. Anime will probably not have that kind of activity again though in terms of influence and success, it would be like having another Star Wars and Star Trek happen. Also no mention of Utena? I'd say it rivals Lain in terms of experimentation and risk taking even if its not on the same technical level of quality and has little popularity compared to the other golden children of the 90s.
No mention of Tenchi Muyo or Love Hina in the 90's, seriously? Tenchi being the primary starting point of the Harem / ecchi style, to be followed up in the late 90's with Love Hina which really set up the current standard of all Type B series. Love Hina Again, the 3 part OVA in 2002 which was the first to introduce the Oniichan trope from a character named Kanako Urashima, who also was the first Goth Loli style character. All to be super popular in the 2007 - 2012 timeframe.
The 90s when anime in America became huge. Dragon Ball Z,Sailor Moon,Pokémon etc. Became mildly big. And then the birth of Toonami everything changed forever.
I like how now that you've reached the point in time where people have actually watched some of these shows have caused to complain about you not mentioning them. 2000s are gonna be rough.
The coming of cable TV in the US and it's insatiable demand for content also spread American appreciation of anime. Multiple cable networks aired anime in the early 90's. Movie networks like Showtime airing anime movies and the Sci-Fi network having a Sunday morning anime block long before Cartoon Network started Toonami and Adult Swim.
Toonami came out on March 1997, and it took anime by storm including Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and so much more that boosted into popularity during the boom period iin the late 1990s. Pokémon came out in April 1997 in Japan after one year when the videogames was released in February 1996 (Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green versions). The series made its debut in North America on September 1998, and the franchise grew into massive success of selling a lot of merchandise (videogames, trading card games, toys, DVD, VHS tapes, etc; the same thing with Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon as those two were phenomenally successful in the '90s as well), the anime series moved from syndication to Kids' WB on February 1999 on Saturday mornings. On March 1999, Digimon Adventure came out on Japanese television after Toei Animation released an short Digimon film (from "Digimon The Movie" when Tai and Kari were toddlers and they met a Digimon named Botamon) soon after 5 months, Digimon Adventure (dubbed as "Digimon: Digital Monsters" in North America) was debuted on Fox Kids on August 1999 on Saturday mornings in the United States.
AnimeEveryday Thanks for making such great content. As someone who's only seen anime for about 2 - 3 months I'm wondering if you could make a video explaining the genres of anime. I've searched it up but it confuses me.
Why you didn't mention conan case closed which aired from 96 till date !! Which has a tremendous and huge sucess world wide and huge effect on detective worlds
His Scottish dialect is awesome. Even more awesome than the video. hahah It's weird he didn't mention One Piece or Detective Conan two of the most popular anime series, especially OP. This has the most sold manga copies in the world. It's strange it's not mentioned. ^^
there's a lot of misinformation in this video. Along with missing One Piece, although its anime started in 1999, misplacing DBZ in 93, not 89, and calling G Gundam real robot. It's a super robot anime, even though it's Gundam.
Jesus, get your dates right AnimeEveryday. Dragon Ball Z aired in 1989, and started airing in America in 1996. Sailor Moon started airing in 1992, not 1996. I don't know where the hell you got this information from, but you need to fact check.
Being butt-hurt about a few technical errors is pathetic. You don't think he figured any of this out? That you'd be the ass to point It out?? Really???
You need to get you facts right about the year dates these anime were released like dragon ball the anime was not released in 1984 the manga started that year the anime did not start until 1986 and dragon ball Z started in 1989 you need to do some more research on these anime
The series is great, but I`m still thinking this fails on showing some important pieces. There is no Ninja Scroll or Rurouni Kenshin here, and that`s a shame.
I'm disappointed that u did not mention shows other than pokemon like digimon and yu-gi-oh, these shows set up a massive merchandising roleplaying, trading card games and the tamagotchi-like gaming industries.
Aside from GITM, Why is there no mention of Dirty Pair, D Vampire Hunter, Battle Angel Alita and Fist of the North Star among many others in the 90's? Those were THE titles to watch here in the U.S. since every video store like Blockbuster carried them. Anime wouldn't have the popularity that it has today without those titles pushing the genre further.
I'm very sorry but this series of videos gives a completely distorted view about anime in specific periods. Putting out some bestsellers (stuff everybody knows, even people who doesn't know anything about Japanese animation) is not going to explain how specific trends emerged, developed, stabilized. It's not going to explain why some titles were popular and how they evolved and changed the artistic landscape.
God. The 90s rocked.
1995 evanglion
Nypro evangelion episode 1 aired October 4th 1995 in Japan...

I got into Anime in about '95. In two months I watched ghost in the shell, cyber city oedo 808, akira, legend of the overfiend, doomed megalopolis, ninja scroll, Gyver, fist of the North Star etc.

Thanks for the list lol.
I will start looking for them right now. 😁

I love 90s anime. So nostalgic. I'm glad I'm a 90s kid.

Anime is such a powerful medium ... :)
ukmevy Very true! Thanks for watching my series :)
Dragon Ball Z started in 1989!
Christian Kai WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

*All the bold, all the time!*
you know it
I can’t believe he forgot yu yu hakusho
Revolutionary Girl Utena snubbed! Jokes aside, really thought you were leading up to it after talking about Evangelion and Sailor Moon.
This is one of my favourite decades. It had Eva, Bebop, Mononoke. I hope they can make those types of animes in the future.
Great work as usual man. This series has been both entertaining and informative, eagerly awaiting the final part. Keep up the quality content :)
SushiDesu Thanks buddy! Glad you're enjoying them :)
Good to know. Sorry, what was your point? It seems a bit random replying to a post I made 2 years ago :) .
Nothing but love dude
GOTTA LOVE THIS ERA!!!
Great work dude!
But I should also point out (as many others here) that the Sailor moon anime started in 1992.
Anime in the 90s was pretty much Hollywood in the 70s-80s it seems. It will probably never be that good again, although anime still seems to be going well despite the doomsday whispers everyone has. yeah everything felt so original back then--some my favorites are still those from the 90's.
Interestingly enough, though, studios have been bringing older manga series into the animated spotlight. (I.e Parasyte and Ushio no tora)
Thanatos388 Utena
Clebardman Hell yeah.
Was looking for the Utena comment!

didn't DBZ air in 89 and SM in 92
my first animes were dragon ball z, sailor moon & pokemon
Didn't Dragon Ball Z first come out in 1989? And Sailor Moon in 1992? I'm getting quite confused here..
"Things talked about in order: Coming soon"
Me comparing the dates of when this video was made and when I'm watching: "Sure it will"
No mention of Utena?
Came for Evangelion xD
Dragon Ball Z came out in 1989 not 1993
Me too. From rob landed right
Yeah he mentioned it in the last part it was the sequel he mentioned
Where's One Piece? It's the biggest anime franchise of all time in Japan. Whether you like it or not, it should be discussed.
One Piece Helloo?
Dragon Ball Z was 1989 right? If I'm not mistaken.
And Sailor Moon in 1992.
Randall Cadet your correct
the golden age of anime imo
Nice video. It was very informative.
This is a really great series and channel. Thank you very much!
When did Ninja Scroll come out?

If the 80's were the Golden Age, the 90's and early 2000's were the Silver Age.
Dbz began In 1989
Wait, you forgot YU-GI-OH!
yugioh was in 2005

Princess Mononoke was distributed by Miramax in the US. Disney picked up the film later.
What about Onepiece ?
What about it
yeah I'm surprised there was no mention of One Piece or Hunter x Hunter, which, despite being "old" are still popular today.
glacierkn the original HxH wasn't that well notice
Persona Simon

Suppose add 1995 iconic series is Gundam Wing. It is nearly #1 1995 anime series.
I don't know why but I started crying right at the moment when you mentioned Pokemon ... reason ? ... feels , Feels , FEELS !!!!!
Dragon Ball Z came out in Japan in April 1989 and the series came out in September 1996 in North America.
I was born in 1989 myself and i started watching anime in 1st grade elementary school

DBZ started airing in Japan in 1989 and didn’t appear in North America on syndication until 1996.

Thanks for making such great content. As someone who's only seen anime for about 2 - 3 months I'm wondering if you could make a video explaining the genres of anime. I've searched it up but it confuses me.

The series is great, but I`m still thinking this fails on showing some important pieces. There is no Ninja Scroll or Rurouni Kenshin here, and that`s a shame.
G Gundam is not a real robot genre. It's the only show that belongs on the super robot genre.
can you tell me the contents you have used for this part and for 6th part like last 4 episodes
Mentions Neo Genesis controversy 3 times
Does not explain what it actually was...
You missed Yu Yu Hakusho
