Hmm...soil (J Innes-based) or peat-based compost? I try not to use peat-based compost, but Gymnocalyciums, I understand, do like a slightly acidic medium, so I do keep a small bag of peaty or ericaceous compost to hand as an additive to the compost for these.
So true Carol :-D yes I will use a bit of peat sometimes with some of the cacti and I will use peat with most of the Epiphytic cacti too :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you tons of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

Oh my, the more I watch the more concerned I am that my soil is going to hold too much moisture! I am using a pre packaged soil (Miracle Grow for cacti) which doesn’t have nearly the grit that I see you use! I have a lot of learning to do!! 😬 thank you for sharing!
Hi Karen :-D Luckily you should be ok with the Miracle grow cactus soil as it is well draining as I am pretty sure it has sand added to the mix, I know people who have used it with great success, if it dries out quite fast in between waterings you will be ok :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you tons of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX
