6:30. It's not the fluids I think. It's the lack of electrolytes in your fluid. Under those warm conditions you really need to keep replenishing your electrolytes to keep feeling well. I just did a multi day race where my teammate was also not feeling well on the second day, after drinking only water. So we filled him up on sports drink with electrolytes and within an hour he was feeling well again. So next trip considering carrying sports drink powder or tablets, or alternatively bring electrolyte tablets
I think that the old guy was under the impression that you were offering him water or something. However, he declined, saying, ‘I don’t want it.’ I think he misunderstood you.
This has been a great series Ed, thank you...I really don't want it to end but it sounds like you do, even though you're loving the country. I wonder what your next adventure will be for us?
Because you mentioned your beginner unicycle course: in 1987 we stayed at a camping site and there was a unicycle that caught my attention. I got on and fell off, and got back up again and fell off again... For about 2 hours, until I finally managed to tear the ligaments in my right foot. And that was that... Which brings me to commenting on you complaining about riding in the wind. I ride a velomobile, a fully faired recumbent trike. With head or tail wind you barely notice the wind at all, but with side wind you might swerve a bit on the road, or if a lorry is overtaking you, you may encounter a sudden displacement when the wind catches you again. It all has its upsides and downsides. Always looking forward to your content, especially the unicycle content. 👍
11:26 can't quite tell if he said the Latvian phrase nevajag "(I) don't need", meaning he thought you were offering, or the Russian давай (Davai) which mean's "let's go/come on" like he was gonna show you.
When it rains, how do you not get the inside of the tent wet. Especially on your ride across the world when there’s not always a place to get dry before getting in the tent
quick question: what shoes do you wear for unicycling...? Ive recently worn out my current pair an looking at getting some new ones that'll last a good few miles out on the road! loving the videos, keep them coming!!!
I wear fiveten impact boots. Honestly pretty heavy and a bit sweaty, but I like the ankle support they provide. A shoe with a similar grip pattern and flat sole would probably work just as well
On the world tour I managed to produce a heap of vids while out on the road. But since then I’ve much preferred heading out on trips, doing my best to capture what I can, and then, once home, focusing on creating something watchable
@@EdPratt I think that's the best way to go, but that must be an assload of material to check and sort once starting production....... And I assume you gather terrabytes of material on your way. Every shot in 4K I guess. For fun I'd like to know, what is the highest bitrate that any of your cameras records? In my case, my trusty old Panasonic GH4 records at 90mbit/s. The thing is 10 years old but still produces flawless motion picture. Recording usable stuff with my phone would be a stretch though, my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is another old but very usable device, which is even modern enough to record in h.265 - but 25mbit/s in 4K already contains quite the perceivable compression.........
What's with all these clowns feeling like you supposedly owe someone something for wanting some tap water? It's rather the exact opposite, that it's rude and entitled to expect someone to buy something before offering them some tap water that's effectively limitless and worth a fraction of a cent
oh it starts to rain - hurry up - I need to take the camera out, place it, record it and then put a raincoat on ... how often during a day to you get of the unicycle to record yourself?
Supposedly many times, which is a big reason why he doesn't make that much of distance. I assume half of the entire time he's out he is busy with some aspect of doing something for the videos. I have produced such videos too in the past, and it easily burns away the time. Especially when he does drone shots, imagine that. For a few nice seconds, you need to unpack all that stuff, set up the drone, fly around a couple minutes, extract the footage, get it all back together and pack it back into the bags. I believe, each drone shot would at least take 15 to 30 minutes to make. An addition to that is managing your power. Drones can only fly so long on a battery and recharging them is a tricky process, since you need to stay at the power source for many hours when recharging.
@@Marc_Fuchs_1985 ...and if he didn't do all that then we wouldn't have any footage to watch, just a long recap to camera of all the stuff that happened that he didnt film as he wanted to get more miles into the day
@@ManWalksDogs Your reply sounds like I was complaining about anything. I was certainly not. =) Just explaining how things go on such trips, when you want to produce appealing videos. The more stops with more views to be recorded, the better. Making a lot of distance means nothing, when the experiences along the way didn't get captured.
I admire how you interact with the locals Ed, always have but I don't agree with entering a store that sells water and expecting them to top you up free of charge. That's rude in my opinion
Buying water in single use bottles is rude to the world. I do think it would be good if he bought something else, but happy to see he is not politing the world with more single use plastic.
@@ManWalksDogs walking into a store and asking for something they sell for free is rude. I don't care WHY you do it, it's rude. The fact you can't see that is irrelevant.
without fail someone asks this under every video of his, typically as they have an issue with it; it's his body, he can refuel how he sees fit and he's under no obligation to expressly put a label on his diet or a draw a hard & fast line in the sand from which he can never step over, hence why he never responds to these 'questions'/criticisms.
I'm surprised you don't speak simpler and slower English when talking to strangers in another country instead of running off long fluid sentences. There's a higher chance they will understand you.
They more or less get the jist, they just don't get the context/cultural norms. Like the woman in Topp knew he wanted water, she just didn't realise he'd want it from the tap as most Latvians drink bottled or filtered due to it being hard-water. Not 100% as it was quite low volume, but the dude in the village either said "come on" in russian like he was gonna show him where the water was or " I don't need" in Latvian thinking Ed was offering him a drink.
Ed, please stop forcing the vocal fry in your videos. I noticed when you were talking to Sylvan you dont have any natural vocal fry but as soon as you start talking to the camera you switch it on. Its really bad for your vocal cords and it doesnt sound good either. Just use your normal voice, which is a good clean sounding and perfect for narrating instead of the Joe Cocker-i-smoke-cigar-and-drink-whiskey-voice you try to use! Stay clean and keep making these awesome video's!
Lol I don't think he "forces it for the video", he just speaks differently alone (to himself or the camera) than when he talks to other people. Same for me xD
Lmao he's not forcing it. When he speaks to Sylvan, he speaks in his full volume and enunciates well. When he's alone and speaking to the camera, he speaks quieter with less enunciation, which causes vocal fry. He's not forcing it, he's just speaking quieter and his voice naturally gets vocal fry
