In the past I never would have considered Lunati for a crankshaft, but after this video you now have much credibility with me, Thank you for the video!
nitromethane222 , They are overpriced . Just a bunch of marketing hype and some guys dream . I would never buy one after seeing this video. A scat or eagle I'm sure is better quality because they make more of them . I'm a machinist and this place is really , really old fashioned !!!!!!! I about puked when I saw them rigid tapping the front snout in a manual lathe just chucked !!!!???? That should be done in a cnc with a single point tool for God sakes especially for what these jokers charge . Overpriced crap !
nitromethane222 , You're write about the 200 mph !!! I know there tough , just the shop in this video is on the low tech side as far as equipment goes . I had the mindset the shop would have some really high tech equipment ! Check out Scats video they have some really nice modern equipment . They all use some manual lathe and mills for good reason but these guys have some dinasore equipment !!!! Just saying for the $ I'd expect more .
libertarian life , Hi , they said 4 ten thousanths , that's .0004" not .004" . .0004 is a realistic industry standard , they probably end up within .0002 - .0003 of spec with polishing probably on the minus / undersize side on purpose . I wouldn't buy one though , place is lower tech than I thought . I know there tough forgings though .
Nice video ,Att : To Lunati General manager. You need to by a new chuck key, looks very bad in the video, plus your operator ,have chance to damage his hand new key not expense ( do not by chinese brand are cheap on material ) not give a long life to used. Detail on top your tool post on Lathe machine , you have a repair nuts (machining nuts with shoulder) welding a handle on side, looks bad in the movie. Please make new nuts to tie tool holder, improve your machine shop , details Thank you
Damn , I guess a bunch of marketing hype !!!! I'm a machinist and this place is actually very old fashioned !!!! I bet they're imported forgings , rough machined then they finish them . I'd rather use scat or eagle , imported as well I'm sure but a hell of alot cheaper ! At the end of the day a crank needs to be made well but it won't make or break an engines performance .Gun drilling the center mains " the big center hole " only weakens a crankshaft !!!!! I would never use one. Drilling the rod throws is the biggest advantage as far as drilling holes goes. I ran a stock small block Chevy cast iron crank at 6600 rpm in a drag car for thousands of runs and it had no issues ! Was over geared and ran 12.5s but it sounded fantastic ! Buy better heads and don't buy crank with your money kids !!!

Lunati, Crower, Callies, I'm sure they're all equally good. Then ya get into the REALLY spendy stuff like Winberg, Bryant, etc.
I wonder how they stack up against Scat and Eagle, two companies a bit lower on the price point.
You guys rocking some real old school CNC machines there
So which engines are they for?
Anything over 1/10000 of an inch to me would be considered a grocery getter engine part.lunati should really consider this video as a oh no moment
Down to .004" of an inch. damn, Didn't know Tajikistan could do that good. I'll keep buying Scat. Listen to your video before posting!
Their used to be a man in Tucson AZ who could take .0003 off a journal if you asked for it! He's still working but closed his shop.
chuck chase uhń
@the machinist Better man than I. Best I do is take 5 tenths off a main or rod.
@the machinist Thought I f--up. Listen at 4:57
It didnt show you how they were made at the foundry are they forged in the USA or the same place eagle cranks are made China

@@bluesbastard81 You never drove anything over 200 MPH These are far better cranks that Eagle Chinese made shit I actually run Bryant crank shafts

P.S , I never heard of Bryant cranks I'll check them out !
THAT WAS THE FIRST THOUGHT THAT POP INTO MY HEAD IF THEY ARE CAST HERE IN AMERICA?
you've got some real state of the art equipment there. For 1975 that is
You look like a child. So if you're not, you're an idiot instead.
Surely this video should be called “How we took somebody else’s crankshaft and cut/ground bits off of it”?
AT 5.48 THE GUY SAYS " THESE ARE CHECKED DOWN TO 4 THOUSANDTHS.".OUCH I'M PRETTY SURE HE MEANT 4 TEN THOUSANDTHS. 4 THOW I CAN DO WITH A HAND GRINDER.

@@bluesbastard81 at like 4:50 or so they said 0.004". It was an error but that is what he said. I have measured many and they are nice quality cranks.

And what pray tell are Scat and Eagle, Manley, Molnar? Hmmm, Can I have offshore for a dollar Alex. Im pilot, I can fly, sir
Ted Gerstenslager Your reply is totally improperly typed and incoherently laid out , similar to a cheap Chinese parts which you probably use alot of !
.004 dont go over 540 rpm.
It could be 1966
Well, no wonder the damn things are so expensive!😕
damn...
Down to four thousands of an inch? Try four ten thousands of an inch.
Pimp my engine!
