Last March, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Teton Gravity Research athletes took to the infamous Corbet's Couloir to put on a show of epic proportions.
Skied this several times back in 1973 when hardly anyone knew it (or Jackson) even existed. Worked at the Alpenhoff for Dick Obereit. Roommate and I skied into it. Corbet's is a very different run in March than early season.
@@shonazzoulai1659 Ski patrol closed it the day before I got there :( Then I had a trip booked to go back and try again in 2018, but I shattered my tibial plateau skiing at Snowbird and haven't skied anything big since. Oh, well. C'est le vie.
I've stood at the top of this twice in my life, and I went down it once. Okay, I thought about going down it. I dreamt about going down it. I didn't really go down it. The alternative route I took to get down was plenty steep thank you very much. There is no easy way to get down from the top of this mountain.
I Had the privilege of standing underneath this early in the year. The footage and the angles do not show how badass this actually is. The scale of the mountain and rocks either side are just insane. A truly awesome experience that one day I hope to go back and conquer.
I really need to ski Jackson. I'm from Crested Butte, and I've been told by visiting tourists I'd love it since both mountains have their fair share of steeps.
Been to Jackson once, never got to ski Corbet's, but i did get to ski the Expert and Alta chutes and Tower Three chute. Gotta go back, but my time for Corbet's has passed. Some ropes, you don't sneak under.
Shane McKonkey did a backflip into Corberts in one of his moooovies...... possibly the sweetest thing i ever saw. The world is a worse place without him in it.
"Steepest, knarliest inbound run in the world"? S & S Couloir, which is just a stones throw away, is knarlier than that. Eagles Nest at Squaw makes Corbet's look like an intermediate run. Corbet's is more of a "tourist run", so people from Minnesota will think they skied the most difficult run in the world. But, hey it's pretty cool!
Grizz Kid This makes me laugh so hard, because when I look at this video I just see hell tbh and this is supposedly an "intermediate run". Shows how weak the man made hills in West-Europe are, because I speed through them, yet I would never even considering doing the entrance of this one.
I live in the French alps.. How can I say that.. we got like 1000 corbet couloirs.. And when you see tourists casually attempting a couloir, it probably means that it ain't the most difficult in the world. Especially when a chairlift directly bring you to it
MrPatrickbuit you probably don't know the alps very well. If you stay on regular slopes in ski station, of course and hopefully, it's man made. But even then, if you go on "black" tracks, you better have a good level if you don't want to spend 3h descending the slope on your butt. But then, and that's what most advanced skiers do, you can also go off track.it's highly recommended to hire a guide to do that. And believe me, you gonna do 10 corbet in a day without going 2 times in the Same place
Have you seen Exhilaration in Whistler Blackcomb? Search up "Crazy Straightline on Skis Whistler - Exhilaration" Then you'll see which is one of the hardest.
this is way better than watching the newbs yard sale it thats for sure. over under, side clif drop, 360, just sending it!! dammit now i need to buy some skis.
You haven't done it, JaBananause, and Corbet is only one iconic run at Jackson Hole. Take a look at S&S (next door) and Central. Whistler and the Bugaboos also have have some fine scary runs.
20 years old and I want it down in three. WE WILL BE KINGS

This is during early spring. Try doing it in January when there is more snow and it is a much narrower chute at the top. It's a blind drop as I did it and crashed the first three times but I eventually nailed it. The rest of it opens up just like in the vid.
Having spent my childhood in Switzerland we did similar couloirs as part of standard ski courses in school. To improve style ski instructors would tie our skis together.
They should put a sign that says "No side slipping. If you side slip your pass will be pulled". That would keep the amateurs out who cant actually ski it without skipping the hard part. And preserve the top of the chute for the real skiers. Otherwise it just becomes more dangerous as people are forced to either make a massive leap or side slip into a rut
Its really pretty simple. Take the drop, the easy side is where everyone bits it, they cant make that turn. Seems much higher when your ready to drop in.
You mean like "Cor-bays"? It does not feel right to speak with a french accent for many english speakers. It sounds too soft. Which wars have the french won again?
Exactly, I don't think it's much of a problem when those first few yards are dealt with. The cornice looks pretty bad, but the rest of it is just steep.
Interesting to see all the helmets. Amazing ....how'd we ski Rendezvous every day in the 70's (when it actually was TOUGHER than today), and not wear a helmet ? How did we survive ? Skied Corbets MANY TIMES without a helmet back when I worked out there. BTW....Corbets is easier in mid winter. You can slide in. As snow melts, it's a leap.
I patrolled for my dinner for four years in the 90s. I can't think of more than a couple of the 1000+ rescues I was on where a helmet would help. .... I am being generous when I say even a couple. Cheers!
+GitSomeBtch It is normally open when there is enough snow, but it was closed for a few days leading up to the filming of this video to keep it in good condition for TGR.
Key is not to try to sneak in. Push through that wall of fear and punch it. Stick the landing and you're home free. You see the timid folks bust. Good luck. Next stop,Chamonix!
if you stick to the right and get a good run then huck a big laid out gainer you will have no problems at all.......make sure to keep your body fully extended throughout the gainer...this will ensure a soft landing as you will have plenty of body position to compress on impact.....you got that?
Looks pretty cool. I guess the first drop is the whole deal with that slope? Kinda fun to see the skill diffrence of people :D My self would probably not get down there very good looking haha.
just getting down it without having a yard sale is an accomplishment if you are just an intermediate level skier and it is your first time...you have to crank out some quick turns up top to scrub off some speed...then it gets moderate very quickly
they day they did this it didn't look so bad especially from the right hand side. But I'm sure it's different being there. Still got to stick that first turn
thopkins22 called it. Once you clear the pinch at the top..."all" you have to do is deal with acceleration...but comparing JH, Chamonix, Valdez, or ANY of the top badass runs in the world is useless. They are famous for a reason and each has it's own personality and characteristics depending on conditions. One day a hit might seem cake, and another day you are looking at ice.
hahaha who comes from there? alpine skiing was invented in austria and a real huge percentage of freeskiers and normal skiers come from this little 8 million country.
Skied this several times back in 1973 when hardly anyone knew it (or Jackson) even existed. Worked at the Alpenhoff for Dick Obereit. Roommate and I skied into it. Corbet's is a very different run in March than early season.
Stop being racist
I'm getting the whiff of sex. You and your roommate were hard at it.
Kudos to the ski patrollers - I wouldn't want to try rescuing someone who crashed on that!
You dont need to. It is only steep at the very top. You can walk right in. Anyone who falls is gona get spat out the bottom anyway
I've wanted to ski that since I was 11. Finally going to get the chance this year! Can't wait.
How was it?

@Jennings Reams Still not, I'm afraid. At my age, broke parts take longer to heal. I'm finally skiing without pain though, so maybe next season ;)
All those wipe outs towards the end is my plan of skiing this.

Shit is way intense!! Been to Jackson once I stood on the rocky cliff to the right of the drop. Looks way more intimidating in person.
Agreed. This looks crazy on camera, which never does justice to what it looks like in person.
bucket list

yea Daniel Tisi! and company! quite a day!

Indeed. Definitely doable! But I was really impressed by the skiers who launched out of it in full speed, the airtime was just insane.
Having spent my childhood in Switzerland we did similar couloirs as part of standard ski courses in school.

Huck and straight run - no one was actually skiing it. And what of SS Couloir next door? Plenty of runs in the US way harder than Corbets.
Man now at kings and queens they sending some insane stuff evolution baby
so is this run not usually open to the public?
+GitSomeBtch It is normally open when there is enough snow, but it was closed for a few days leading up to the filming of this video to keep it in good condition for TGR.
What’s funny is the run right next to it (S&S) makes Corbet’s look like a cakewalk.
dropping in is much much easier than walking in and catching an edge. fear is the killer here
Great video, everyone gets an A + for effort.
Its a cliff. Just call it a cliff. J Hole is an old mining spot, blown to bits and turned into runs.
some call it hardest INBOUNDS trailer in north america, there are many in the backcountry or even hike to's that are much, much harder
Key is not to try to sneak in. Push through that wall of fear and punch it. Stick the landing and you're home free. You see the timid folks bust. Good luck. Next stop,Chamonix!
Great video. What is the name of the music track>?
My legs go all wobbly and my stomach gets butterflies just standing at the top of this place....
the equivalent of Jaws-Mavs-Chops for solid iron balls
the landing is so steep really isn't a big deal dropping into it...really safe as the run out is huge
depends what angle you approach from
if you stick to the right and get a good run then huck a big laid out gainer you will have no problems at all.......make sure to keep your body fully extended throughout the gainer...this will ensure a soft landing as you will have plenty of body position to compress on impact.....you got that?

I'd be scared of going too near the edge because of fear of the cornices suddenly giving way.
riding the jump out is hard, its not a trail by any means, step trails with trees everywhere is more difficult
looks pretty gnar but I know some in bound runs at mt baker that make this look smallish.
they day they did this it didn't look so bad especially from the right hand side. But I'm sure it's different being there. Still got to stick that first turn
It's one of the hardest inbound runs in the world. It's hard.
Of course it's nothing compared to backcountry, but you can't compare the two.
If I go here I'm going where the guy in the green in the second clip went.
Wish you guys showed at least one person ski all of Corbet's… Just the drop in? Need a bit more...
The drop in is the tough part. The rest could be rated a blue or something, it's really easy once you're through the drop in.
SONG AT 0:54 PLEASE
daniel tisi is soooo good
Many a core shot were made this day....

You can 1:27 Corbetts or you can 1:34 Corbets; Both will say they dropped in
Its not, maybe the backcountry here is, but not corbets, its just for tourists.
"I heard its the hardest run in north america..." So i am just going to do a front flip off it
It isnt the hardest run. Just a weird entry point made difficult by unskilled skiers side slipping in
some of these people are in way over their heads...
upload some footy bro talk is cheap
he's not saying he can do it, just that some of the people in the video shouldnt be
Bucket List Item #12. Corbet's Couloir.
Okay if you walk down the top your didn’t ride it
Why is ski patrol doing worse than other people when they go ._.
well they aren't JHMR athletes just saying
True
Do you ski at jhmr???
Mt rose ski tahoe
oh big sky
Check out "Blaine Gallivan gopro line of the winter", in which he demonstrates how to properly enter this run.
If you start between the rocks it's really not that hard
Chimney at Squaws FTW!
its the fear factor mr.europe
The people they didn’t show the landing of probably just sorta died when they fell in lol
Corbets commands respect come correct or get spit out
My mate Ting Tong did this on a skateboard wearing flip flops
According to ski magazine a few years ago, its the number 6 hardest run in America. Palisades at squaw and s&s at Jackson are lower on the list
I wana go there so bad -_-
I did the first trail lol and got a concussion
Like this it doesn't look that scary, but in reality it's probably different shit
If i can just get here.
I had the chance to do this run and I didn't take it.
+Ben Mynatt Skateboarding I took it when I was there.
That's because you've been skiing Chamonix
There's no way that's the hardest run in North America... and I happen to live in Whistler, so I do know what I'm talking about...
That thing scares me
0:34 Steepest and gnarliest.. maybe among resorts not in the world dude..
That's what he means by 'inbounds run'
duuuude thats my name XD
East coast ice glades are harder. (Half joking)
Try bikiing down in the summer
Looks like no fun unless you jump the ridge
Skiied this before not as hard or scary as people say. Not even close...
haha, ski up to it an look down. tell us what you think then swartsagaper.
Haha wir österreicher denken uns:" Das geht eh locker" :P
well you go to austria and ski down some alps haha
wow... nice video.. have a good night.. i hope all is well. take care.
I pulled a back flip off cornets with my friend Gus, it helps in my opinion to have fatter skiis
Yeeeeeah!
steeps!
you srsly think this is hard? this is like a normal slope in austria
i think this run is pretty over rated. if you want something harder go to revelstoke and ski mania
Have you skied it?
lol. lets see you do it
yes i have, it is one big feature at the top and after that it is like every other line in the world
Seen this imposable
thats because they are... :)
hahaha who comes from there? alpine skiing was invented in austria and a real huge percentage of freeskiers and normal skiers come from this little 8 million country.
gnarliest couloir? yeaah... don't think so
inbounds
me to
No you didn't.
Serioulsy? This is like a France's green slope!
holy hach attack!
