Dirge of Cerberus is absolutely not getting a remake… please don’t say nonsense. You really think that square is going to make a 3rd person shooter? No dude…
I think if it weren't for FF14, SE would be going the way of Ubisoft these days. I can't say for certain as I'm not part of their demographic anymore.
@ unfortunately that statement has a lot of truth to it. Square is a lot more famous and been around longer than Ubisoft so they have more money and good faith to bleed. But yes if not for them making the worlds most successful mmos of the last two decades next to wow has kept them afloat they’d be in a very different situation
The 7th Saga.
Loved this game. I know this game came out in 1993, but the first time I played it was right after I was done with FFVI (FFIII US)... around early 1995. And I enjoyed it more than FFVI.
This game deserves a full-fledged remake IMO.
The concept of this game is good. 7 characters looking for the same thing, even willing to kill each other for it. If they do make a remake, they should adopt a "Souls-like" real-time combat. That way, grinding for levels wouldn't be so necessary, it would depend a bit more on skills.
I think it’s time for a Final Fantasy where you can create your main character and explore an open-world. I would love to see a FF modeled after say Dragon Age: Inquistion.
its called ffxi and ffxiv, you even get to join other players
@ Well, FFs current direction isn’t working anymore. Either they have to be perfect which they haven’t been since the FFIX/X era or they need to let go of the reins a little and let the player create their own connection with the content.
That’s the secret to western RPGs. After you’ve made your own selections about your character you’re automatically more engaged because you’re enjoying something you created.
I’m not saying they need to change everything. They can still have their own secondary characters (give us more of them at least 5-6) and a strong story which Dragon Age games does really well but opening up to main character creation would definitely draw some attention back to the series and get people excited.
@@xorrior4438you just copy pasted the same thing you said in the main thread.
Also, I disagree with almost everything you said. Final Fantasy as a whole has been in an overall better position the past four years than the 2010-2019 era.
And the above user is correct; the thing you claim to want is something that has existed since 2002 with FFXI. And while FFXIV’s launch was a disaster, S-E relatively quickly fixed it and it’s still being supported with new content to this day.
I personally feel that Final Fantasy settings wise would do well in high fantasy settings like I-VI, IX, XI, XII, XIV, and XVI while gameplay wise should follow Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy. M rating should also be a must as that would be less restrictions on the worlds, story, and content being created. This is what I feel the future of Final Fantasy should be.
Just give me action atb, with gambits, no mashing, remake summon mechanics, a proper party with character embedded classes and a medieval/renaissance fantasy setting.
You can include steam punk elements if you have to.
It's not hard
HD-2D remakes of 5 and 6 won’t happen either. Recently Square said that they don’t want to oversaturate the market with HD-2D games and 5 and 6 got recently rereleased in Pixel Remaster collection.
IMO FF17 announcement will take 2 years.
Instead I think Square will announce totally new FF spinoff IP first half of next year.
2:18 What is her name?
Yuffie
@@Jamer2809 She's so darn cute, Thank you!
I stand by what I said, I just like the traditional turn based, I'm not saying that I'd want every final Fantasy game to be turn based, but ffx was the last of its kind and I would like to see a more modern turn based final Fantasy game. And just because it's turn based doesn't mean that it doesn't take brains.. You still have to strategize and grind to have the appropriate armor sets etc, but again not everyone is going to agree. FFX is my favorite and I'd love to play something like it again. A remake would be amazing in my opinion.
Hot take:
I don't think FF has an identity crisis per se, I think the entire JRPG genre is having a AAA crisis.
When you factor how high expectations are for AAA games these days (not to mention the GaaS infestation), how would you expect a genre known for static/slow gameplay to rise and compete against the big boys? Their sad attempts to pivot the main series into action is not a coincidence. These recent years many different genres have been 'filtered' out from the AAA space because of how ludicrous the budgets and production values have become. FF has become a victim of its own success because now they have to juggle the sky high expectations of being *the* JRPG series with the crushing reality of the modern AAA scene.
And before anyone mentions Persona 5 and Dragon Quest 11, let me remind you that these games came out in 2017, around the same time Fortnite did. Persona 5 is half JRPG with the other half being a VN dating sim, and DQ11 pretty much rode the waves of nostalgia; it's basically a PS2 game with modern graphics. Neither one is considered a meaningful step forward to the genre. I'm sure Yuji Horii, being the smart man that he is, has seen the writing on the wall for the genre, which is probably why DQ12 has been teased to be a huge departure to what came before and also why it's taking so long to come out. I think the future AAA JRPGs will rest on DQ12's success. Godspeed, Horii-san.
Just give us true turn based combat back. Nothing has been as good as X since X came out. 12 was good, but we havent had a real gem in ages
I can agree with this, Ffx is my favorite. I wish ffx either gets a remake, continuation or prequel
but turn based is so damn boring, it only dignifies those gamers bad at any other game.
@@mikeduff2070 meh kinda miss it, it's how Final Fantasy first started out. I miss the sphere grid leveling up system and learning new abilities and being able to summon on command. Some people will also probably think turn bases easy, but let me tell you go face Penance in ffx. Besides it's 2024 I'm sure they can spice up a turn-based game.
@@MatthewDavidson-i2n I've beaten penance back on the ps2 and on the ps4 remasters, hes not really that hard just time consuming. Most Rpg's are not hard just time consuming, i dont know how many turn based rpg's follow most of the same element, melee your enimies reserving magic points for bosses, items are not much needed cause healing spells are basically all youll need, magic healing items are rare so conserve them, get to a boss and blast the hell out of him while making sure your characters dont die. Now sure there are turnbased rpgs that dont follow these rules to a T but thats basically the formula of turn based rpg's, doesnt take no brain.
As much as i hate mobile games, Ever crisis is pretty decent. Never feel like i need to spend any money, and i can just play and enjoy it
Og FF7 remade being a 1:1
Crisis core
And a new story of sephiroths past? Hell yeah
My only gripe with it is i wish i could just download it on my xbox or ps5
FFs current direction isn’t working anymore. Either they have to be perfect which they haven’t been since the FFIX/X era or they need to let go of the reins a little and let the player create their own connection with the content. Let us create our main character and choose their role a little bit more in the next installment.

I really don't think it has a future.
It’s absolutely embarrassing that the most famous game in the world is a turn based rpg and triple a turn based rpgs are making bagillions of dollars like baldurs gate 3 and like a dragon but square is too stupid to make FF a turn based rpg anymore
THANK YOU! Especially considering the HUGE success of Octopath Traveller and Dragon quest 11. It's because the director at squareenix right now is the same guy who does Devil May Cry. So that's why Final Fantasy feels like a Devil May Cry clone in the last couple of installments
@@shvelgudImo ff16 should've been a hybrid like Rebirth or Metaphor. There was no need to go the DmC route. I love KH and like DmC, but I don't want FF to become a full ARPG.
@ what? No dude the guy from Dmc is absolutely not the director of square enix. The dmc guy just helped them with the combat in 16
FF hasn’t made an actual main line turn based rpg in over 2 decades so it has nothing to do with his recent involvement
But yes I completely agree with you. They’re the father of modern turn based rpgs but completely turned against making the some of the worlds best turn based games to now making some of the worlds most okay action games
Idk why they can’t make both. Mainline games can keep being these action games, but they can make more games like Octopath, but maybe bring back the whole “Ivalice Alliance” idea they had, starting with a FFT remake and then making either a prequel about Ramza’s father, or at least the 50 Years war. It could even be just a regular turn based game, but they would have to get some top writers, or at least try and get Matsuno involved again, maybe not so much as to being the head of development, but at least get some input from him on where the story comes, goes, how to tell it, dude is amazing and Square is only hurting themselves by not having him around for at least some guidance.
square is trying to make fun games, not reward players bad at video games.
Im not a fan of the pixel remasters, and i think square should have just invested in 2dhd remakes for ff1 to 6. The pixel remasters are expensive for my poor pockets
Just make a Final Fantasy game with a fun turn-based battle system, a great cast of characters to build your party around and a colourful world with personality.
FFXVI was so dull that I had difficulties to complete the main story. I love Final Fantasy, but the series has gone too far from what made it great. FFXV at least felt like an adventure with the boys, but otherwise the game was a mess. I still liked it more than FFXVI. It had that Final Fantasy magic FFXVI didn't have.
I think FFIX is the perfect FF game. Follow that formula and make Final Fantasy fun again.
omg you think 9 is the perfect ff game?, the most glitchy game. Honestly i never really cared for 9. 8 was better then 9 and 8 had issues, alot of issues, but not half the glitches of 9.
@mikeduff2070 I have never, ever seen a single glitch in FFIX and I have played that game multiple times over the years. I really don't know what you are talking about. Saying that FFVIII is better thab FFIX is funny. I like that game, but it's definitely not as great as FFIX. Boring cast, broken junction system and plot holes everywhere. Gunblades are awesome and music is just as good as in FFIX in my opinion, but other than that it's the weakest game of that incredible run Squaresoft had starting from FFIV going until FFX.
@-locke-6051 its ok not everyones brain runs at normal rate, some of you slow people exist, and cant see glitches that are just about through out the whole game.
Remakes, remakes and more remakes
how can something that died in 2001 have"a future"
My thought exactly. Its been frustrating to see Square Enix fail again and again for well over a decade...
Okay grandpa
😂 Gamers and melodrama, name a more tiresome duo
I pray they dont listen to the poor gamers who cry for turn based to come back, they are doing really well making action combat thats really fun, i loved 16s combat i thought it was amazing.
