This commercial looks like it was made about 1955. $5000 in 1955, adjusted for inflation, equates to $36.218 in 2006--the latest year to calculate. That's still pretty decent money.
Not really. They do the same thing in commercials today.. lol. And it doesn't really look like its made for a 5 year old. You have to remember, they had really limited television technology then.
Many bombers in that era did not stay in service for a long time like the B-36, B-45, B-58, and the B-47, but the B-52 and in comparison the B-1 and even the B-2 have outlasted the prior generations of planes.
$5,000 a year. for the average american is not to bad. average i mean someone who works thier ass off not one of the greedy CEO type people who has people make them money.
Hell yeah on the -52, although I feel inclined to point out that those are B-46 bombers in the video. You can tell by the 6 engines rather than eight, as well as the drastically different canopy. Other clues include the rocket smoke on takeoff and the different fuselage shaping.
Hmmm, I wonder if you still have to be single to join the Air Force as a pilot? I remember when I was in the Marine Corps, there were a few that were married when they joined, might be different for pilots. Personally, I don't think married people should be allowed to join the military at all, and first term military members shouldn't be allowed to get married.
Where do you think Japan got the anime style? IIRC anime was strongly influenced by American animated films that were brought in during the occupation.

yupe... my grandpa was in service for the air force like in late 50s-early 60's (:
The planes that are portrayed in the commercial, B 47 bombers, would have been active during your Grandpa's enlistment.
Awesome advertisement.

@historyvideos101 Is that accounting for inflation of fiat currency due to dropping the gold standard in the 70's or no?
Better dead than Red
the value of the dollar decreased
Why is everyone spamming with chain letters at the USAF replated areas...? Thanks for the honor >
@Xephirox900 back then movies were less then 80 cents

Whopper What do Air force lieutenants get paid now? Probably not 41k/year.

The animated pilot looks Anime style! (13-15 seconds) And man, the B52's are still flying with the USAF going on 60 years already!
They're not B52s heh
Where do you think Japan got the anime style? IIRC anime was strongly influenced by American animated films that were brought in during the occupation.
Man, I wish it was that easy to be a pilot today. No collage and tons of flight spots... New tech every day.
Friggin drones
