We are so lucky these days ! It used to take me hours of resetting the needle on my record player in just the right spot to learn the licks that I wanted. I really appreciate the time saved by having great players like you just lay it all out so clearly. Thank you so much for taking the time.!
Thats why I felt like a spoiled brat all the time. You had guys like BB King, Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, Dimebag...all of them learned like that and then you have me with all of things technology has given to us and I'm still lazy to learn few cool new riffs while those guys would chop off their leg just to have the same access to information like we do.
Joe you are still the greatest versatile finger style guitarist. Thank you for sharing this fantastic arrangement & take good care of those hands. They are the tools in the future advancement of guitar playing. Your Friend, Vince James (Ajello)
Since I started listening to your arrangements the last few months I’ve been enjoying guitar so much more! Already done the Adele one, just about finished with landslide, and now starting this one! Thank you joe!
How lucky I feel we are to have someone of your caliber that is in to teaching it and is as good at teaching as you are at playing. That's an amazing combo to have and I for one am grateful. I took your fingerstyle courses on Udemy and loved them. Literally a lifetime worth of study in that course really. It's awesome that you add stuff like this every once in a while just for the love of it. Awesome work. Much appreciated.
“If you spend thirty minutes on one, that’s not unusual “ These are the types of comments that help me to keep learning. I really appreciate your overall message of the importance of hard work, and discipline, and how talent is a flawed concept or “misconception”. Thanks Joe.
Really really good. I love its clear connection to the Ray Charles version. I also love how much you just dig playing. Love for the craft makes for a player worth seeing in concert!
I watch one guitar video and I’m getting tons recommended to me everyday for the past three days, I watch 10 bass videos every day and haven’t got one recommended to me in months
Well once again a really outstanding tutorial! Thank you so much for these thorough descriptions of how you approach each phrase. And Thanks for giving me a seveeral months study to get it close to what you have played here; because it's going to take all of that and more, and yet somehow you make it all look so easy! Superb playing Joe!
wish i had a longer thumb like that man. i can barely get mine out in front of my fingers. not essential, but helpful to get the extra mobility on palm.
Thank you man, very nice arrangement. Btw, for me it's almost impossible to play with an extended thumb over like you and Tommy play. My fingers are not that long, so it's very uncomfortable, but the Barre chords are coming natural and easy for me so I'll stick to that. I'm following you since you won that talent show and I appreciate that you are interacting with your audience in this way, please keep it up...
Its not easy it takes a lot and I mean a lot of practice, practice which takes dedication and determination and hours and hours of work and study the reward speaks for itself. How do I know? I studied Classic Guitar at a university level. And Joe has a great natural technique and a great teaching style.
Nobody is better than you at showing how to play various tunes. Thom Bresh does a fine job too but you do one after the other. Even though most of your subscribers will not play these tunes they get a lot out of seeing them deconstructed musically and technically. I, included. I content my self to playing this almost like I play Merle Travis’s Sixteen Tons.
This is a great arrangement. I'm able to follow along. Can't use my thumb as you do but I'm OK just using a bar-chord where needed, One thing, though. In the chorus, you mention the F-A-C-E-C (that you say is "a tricky chord to hold for very long" ... I agree) followed by what I think you call an A-power chord (? if I heard you correctly) with a low E in the bass. For me, it helps me to follow along in the tab to see what's going on. The problem I'm having is, I don't see this A-power chord, for example, in the 12th measure of the tab (that I downloaded from musicnotes. Can you clarify this for me?
Hi there, for the A5/E chord, in the TAB I’m just playing a low E note and the high A melody note. You can add the other notes of the chord if you’d like, or you can keep it to just the bass & melody notes. Hope that helps and all the best with your playing!
Thank you. Digging into this. Very good presentation and playing!! Q: At 20:00 mark you refer to the chord as a A sus......but it is E sus 4 ....right?
Great lesson and I did manage to learn it, i would have liked the lesson a bit more had you covered the first verse a little slower and went just a little more into detail about all the strings you’re hitting and stuff. Otherwise I love all of your lessons and you’re a fantastic guitar player. I look forward to seeing you grow.
