i just ordered this as an extra to play with and give to my uncle after i program it for our area. i use my SDS200 and its amazing just way to expensive.
With the antennas, take it from a radio nut/truck driver. Unless you want to run power in the hundreds of watts or venture out of the cb frequency range, usually cheap antennas work just fine. I love the performance of fiberglass antennas, but delivering to dairies id be snapping them on a regular basis. But having a good ground plane and minimum obstructions is way more important. Keep that coil above your roof line!!!
Thanks for the feedback, you know this is a scanner review though right. You don't talk on them only recieve, I'm sure having a good ground and no obstructions are essential for improving recieving signals as well. Theres no running power here though for broadcast. I have wondered if one was to put a pre amp inline if it would improve signal on a scanner. I imagine it would though some say they don't really help just add more noise.
@@countryfriedgamer15o yes I know. I thought you were saying something about the antenna on that midland cb. As far as a receive only antenna, I think a lot of the same rules apply like with resonant frequency but I dont know about ground plane. With the amplifier I don't know what to say. They will definitely amplify the noise too. In past experiences the only time I ever saw a receive amp do anything worthwhile was on our cable TV when I was a kid. I think that was because any number of 6 tvs could be on and fighting over the signal. I am a vintage electronics collector and I have been shopping for scanners, but I need a digital scanner that can go in my truck.
@@Littlelewie151 sorry for the late response and thanks for clarifying that you were talking about the cb in the other video. I've added a little extra boost to it, made sure swrs were good beforehand. Everything that is recorded here is strictly factory settings no tunes or added power. What I added later was not much but it helped clear up modulation and expanded range a couple miles. When you mentioned resonant frequency I'm not sure if you meant cb or scanner. The cb for sure has to be resonant, I think that's what using the swr meter and tuning the antenna does. When it comes to a scanner though I imagine youd have to have higher grade equipment to determine without a microphone. I also don't see how it could even be done since it scans various frequency ranges.
Not a problem. With a scanner I don't think resonant frequency is near as big of a deal. I use a cb antenna on both my scanners just because it's what I had laying around.
I would imagine so, you would just have to verify that the area in which you live operates on analog channels. You can program channels manually as long you know the frequency. Being that picking the state is one of the first things you do once turning it on for the first time. I would just pick a location from the list even if it's not yours and go straight to typing in frequencies manually. I would first before even buying the scanner to check the types of frequencies that they operate on in your area.
I need help setting mine up for police freq. Iv never touched this thing before so I have no experience in these crazzy confusing things on it. If any one can help lmk
I sure hope you can help me , a year ago i bought a bct-15x which i had them program for my area , well 2 weeks ago i bought a second one , not programmed thinking i would just clone it.. it looks like a easy straight forward process but i am not having any luck , can you show me how to transfer from my programmed one to the stock bct-15x. these are Identical models. thanks and i sure hope you can
I believe the video shows how to pick the state but as far as programming specific cities, that maybe through hooking up to a computer to program. I don't have any information on how to do that as I have misplaced the manual and never connected mine to a computer. The only thing I can suggest is to write down all the frequencies from the one that is programmed for your area and manually punch them in on the one that isn't and save the list. I'm sorry I couldn't offer more assistance.
well crap.. one of them just all of a sudden started with no audio out of speaker or head phone jack.. did a full reset and then re-cloned it but it didnt help anything.. ever had anything like that happen ??
No i haven't sorry, maybe you accidentally muted it or something. I don't know if a reset would unmute it if it was muted accidentally. I'm sorry to hear that you lost audio, i think these scanners have great sound for how small they are. I only had a handheld scanner for years and if there were any outside noises I couldn't hear anything. Oddly enough with this one i turn the volume to 13 and it seems perfect for most situations.
While i agree, i wasn't sure how to obtain all the ones in my area. I only found so many online but the scanner scanning the entire state i was able to pick up some new ones.

It's been awhile since I've done it but I believe if you go to the frequency you've locked out manually and hit the lockout button again it'll unlock it. What I mean by manually is stopping the scan and turning the big knob until you land on the locked out frequency. You can also go through the menu to your quick save list and change the setting that way. There's three lockout positions, temporary lockout, permanent lockout and unlocked. Temporary lockout just locks it out for the current time the scanner is on. Once you shut off the scanner and turn it back on it'll be unlocked again. Permanent lockout is it's locked out until you manually unlock it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@countryfriedgamer15o thanks for answering, but it should be combination with “hold” and l/o, to unlock all frequencies. If I locked about 15-20 frequencies, I can make unlocks one combination button. Do you know about it? Thanks
