It's kinda crazy how a rather clearly superior solution such as this (per-frame dynamic tone mapping) hasn't been done before. The only issue I can see though is that if in one scene a bright object appears/disappears it's going to look like an ABL kicks in due to the EOTF changing
IMO the whole way HDR works is utterly unsuitable for consumer use. I hope in the future it will get a lot more plug and play with standardized communication between devices so that the whole manual setup and changing of tonemapping settings becomes a thing of the past, and back to working the way SDR did where you decide your own brightness instead of the content deciding it for you. I mean, HDR movies are all made to be viewed in a dark room, so when the consumer in their bright livingroom opens netflix to watch a movie, they are left with a terrible experience. Sure there may be some workarounds on some TVs to make it viewable, but that messes up the tonemapping and you can't expect your average person to fiddle with the settings every day.
@@JorisKeijser It's exactly what bothers me about HDR. Sometimes it was so dark I had to "sail the high seas" for the bluray SDR versions which preserved a lot more detail and were overall brighter, highlights aside.

Agreed. I got mine a year ago for a reasonable price, two weeks later disappeared from webshops, only models left on the market were 40% more expensive. I use it as a monitor and I very much notice the pixel shifting that I would turn off if it would be possible. But I won't have the funds to upgrade to this one, unfortunately.
Didn't the Panasonic OLEDs also do the dynamic tone mapping right? IIRC they also do not try to revision the image by over brightening everything, they just try to tone map the bright details down to fit the TV's capabilities. There is basically no reason to ever disable it.
i wasn't impressed by qdOLED when shopping for monitors. QD panels seem to glow a little, reducing the impressive black details compared to normal OLED.
@@RadblockerAddict3000 It's more grey like a plasma unless you have it in direct sunlight.
