Great review Bob. Thanks for the UK Amazon link, this was helpful as I'm in the UK.
Wow…for a little over $100 that’s excellent quality. It’s a tool used often by watchmakers to service mechanical movements as well. Pretty neat!
I particularly like the split screen cursor guided zoom feature - very handy for keeping track of where you are when tracing a copper trace on a circuit board for example.
These are great for old eyes that need bifocals, etc. I have a cheaper brand, but it is very similar. It works great for identifying color bands on resistors and caps. Also looking for bad traces and solder joints.
Now that's geeking out.
Great new item and amazing the new low price and how well it works. Silver mica was nice to see in details. Sure you will have many uses. thanks Mike
I really like using mine your joy looks a lot like mine Andonstar AD246S-M !
This was GREAT Bob! Best home movies I’ve seen in a long time!
Ah,Loved the last clip, wish i seen this back in the 1970s and on acid! What a trip!
My two bits worth:
I think that the corrosion was caused by soldering flux. The flux reacts with the moisture in the air.
It does record audio as well, I'm pretty sure. I have a similar unit by Andonstar and I can record audio on that, so I presume so. I do prefer recording audio separately, though.
Interesting, I always assumed these were continuously wound with clamps fitted where needed
12:00 try finding the tip of a stylus at 40x lol
every time you mention the linearity wirewound power resistor and the problems it has, it makes me worry about mine that still seems to be OK T_T
We meet again here Suz! I’m still frustrated by the RCA. My power resistor was so close to the stated tab values that I just assumed it was fine. Maybe there’s something else going on. Sounds idiotic but maybe I should check continuity too. Unlike Bob, I’ve had dozens of these in TVs and not one has been bad 🧐🧐🧐
LOL last resort, read the instructions :-)
