How the horizontal growth of the trunks occur when it is tie up tightly

Trunks wont grow vertically much once you cut them. The main objective here is to fuse the trunks together to obtain thicker trunk line at the base tapering towards the tip. After few years all the initial trunks become one and gets covered by auxiliary roots wrapping around it. No one can recognize that there are multiple trunks unless they search for the tips. Even some may say that the trunk has branched out.
