    I think you are forgetting that with a time turner, you can't actually change the past, it's already happened that way.

    • @dannylagangonzalez6832
      @dannylagangonzalez6832 2 дня назад

      No, you can, because Hermione said to Harry in POA that people have killed their past or future selves accidentally before. In any case, it makes sense for them not to have been used in wars etc, because the potential to accidentally make things worse is just too high, there's too much risk involved in it.

      @@MaidenheadPkno it’s possible to change what happens, though if you follow the guidelines of keeping out of sight and ensuring not to interfere (unless you realise that you had already interfered) then it should maintain a constant loop in time.
      However breaking the loop causes all manner of issues.
      That’s the main plot point in Cursed Child (yes it IS canon regardless how much you don’t like it)

  • @topsyturvygirl
    @topsyturvygirl 2 дня назад +5

    In POA (spoilers ahead) The time turner works in a different way. What has happened has already happened. There is only one arrow of time. You can only change things that have not happened yet and have not been observed by others. So yes studying for a test, you can re learn as many times before the test to get a better mark but once you have taken it, there is no point going back, you were always going to get that mark. If you redo the test, you will get that mark again. So when the trio observe buckbeak being executed- in both the timelines they experience, he wasn’t actually executed (they misinterpreted the sounds they heard the first time). If serious had have been kissed before they went back, there is nothing they could have done to change it.

    I do not perceive the pencieve the same way as stated in the video. As a person who OFTEN has SO MANY thoughts running through my head, the idea of being able to sort out my thoughts, remove the intrusive or unhelpful ones, seems almost peaceful. The pensieve is my absolute favorite magical object from the HP universe 😊

  • @chiefeddy9793

    You’ve opened up a whole argument about the pensieve I’ve never thought about before. Sure the morality question was known to me but I’ve never considered the implications of living in the past. It’s so obvious once you’ve pointed it out but I’ve always thought it’d be cool to have one… now I’m not so sure.
    I suppose it’s similar to Dumbledores addage “it does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live”.
    Fascinating take.

    Your pencive argument kinda defeated itself. You said people are so focused on capturing the memory for others to see that they don’t truly get to enjoy the present… but that’s exactly what the pencive does. It allows the person to fully enjoy the moment and not have to worry about “capturing” it because they can show the memory later.

    the thing about robbing a bank with the invisibility cloak is that you cant just walk in the back and take money you need codes and much more planning. but say you have robbed the bank, you talked about flying first class for free but if you can rob any bank easily then why even bother to sneak into first class when you can just buy your ticket with all that bank money?

    In terms of the marauders map magic, there's a reason it wasn't used more often, because if you think about it, the Marauders wanted to use it to their advantage, they didn't want anyone else knowing they had it, it was their secret, unless it was obvious that the purpose was just to cause mischief. So when Fred and George found it, it knew that they wanted to only cause mischief, and therefore, it let them work out the password etc. After that, Harry clearly thought it was best for him to keep it for his advantage, and not allow it to be public knowledge, for the exact reason you said, because it would mean people can track anyone else just like that, and in the wrong hands, that could be awful.
    I'm pretty sure Dumbledore didn't even know about the map until Harry had it anyway, and by that point, he'd think it's best not to mess with that kind of magic, because the fewer people that know, the better, and he knew how useful it was to Harry.
    Let's all be glad Barty Crouch Jr got his soul sucked out, so that he couldn't suggest the idea of using this magic to Voldemort, because he had the map temporarily. And in terms of Peter Pettigrew, well, I imagine his role in making the map was only really the actual mapping itself, which he could do as a rat. He was the least talented of the 4, so I doubt he really understood the other aspects of the magic, that was probably the job of the other 3.

    - The Pensive is just al hard drive for mind videos. Isn't it?
    - I think Voldemort was a little occupied after Lily died with other stuff than looking at a map.

    My understanding is that the sword wasn't actually stolen and was paid for by Godrick Grythindoor. The Goblins feel however that after Godrick's death the sword should've been returned, but that is not how humans/wizards perceive possesion

  • @MapleSimmer
    @MapleSimmer День назад

    Interesting ideas. That said, I don't think that Gryffindor stole the sword. He bought it. The issue, as described by Bill in the Deathly Hallows is that goblins treat the 'sales' of the objects they create as if it was rented to the person who bought it and therefore when they die they think they should get it back, so if anyone 'stole it' it was Hogwarts for not giving it back after Gryffindor died, however, wizards consider it as being purchased and therefore they can pass it down. So it's just a matter of whose opinion you agree with, the goblins or the wizards. I am more inclined to agree with wizards' point of view unless the goblins were up front that it was a 'rental' vs a sale (it almost seems like all the companies today who won't sell anything and want to have people pay a subscription fee for everything, which I'm not a fan of).
    Also with the two way mirror, Harry never opened the gift so he never knew what it was until after Sirius died. I can see why he forgot about it, I know I did when I read the book. I never held it against Harry for forgetting about the unopened gift, it was just a sad thing that happened (also very convenient for the plot). Plus Sirius could also have reminded Harry to use his Christmas gift the first time Harry talks to him from Umbridge's office (which I also can understand why he didn't as Harry's appearance was sudden and he also has to leave suddenly).

  • @joshuamoyer3327
    @joshuamoyer3327 День назад

    The way you describe time turners they absolutely would be God tier, but they don't work that way in Harry Potter. You can't use them to redo events over and over, every time you go back your past self is still there. In other words, if you make a bad first impression on a first date, your past self will still be there and still make a bad first impression when you go back.
    Second, you still age with the time turner, it doesn't give you any extra time to accomplish anything. If you use the time turner to give yourself decades of practice at everything in your 20s, you won't have the skills of a 70 year old when you turn 30. You'll actually be 70.
