its called in ear monitor..he uses it to listen to his fellow musician so as to play on beat and timing.. he also uses it to listen his drums(feedback fr him) since he does not have the traditional feedback speakers.. in ear monitor also help to reduce the amount of speakers you have on stage so that it helps you have a cleaner stage and Front of house mix..less speaker on stage also means less stage mix bleeding with that if the front of house mix..
