Thanks so much for this video, I thought I was the only beginner self-taught artist! I've been teaching myself about naturalist art (flora, fauna, landscapes, etc) since 2017 and I still have so much to learn. It's been a slow sluggish journey but I've made good memories and become fascinated with nature journalling and nature artwork. The turning point for me to improving was realizing and accepting that you don't need talent to do art (although it helps), art can be learnt as there are systematic techniques that anyone can learn to use (shoutout to negative spaces and lines of curvature!). However to this day I still can't draw trees and I have not learnt anything about human anatomy oops (as it doesn't fall into the naturalist art category). Tips 2, 3 and 4 have saved my life in my art learning. Often I couldn't afford to buy artbooks and I had borrowed all the relevant ones in my local libraries, so I would sit for hours at the art section of bookstores and take notes in my sketchpad until an employee chased me out!
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been taking my art serious, but ended up being in a 9 month art block break. Lol but now I’m gonna actually practice my art fundamentals so I can draw some hot anime guys
@@NeddyisNeddy I always wonder how do you practice anatomy while putting color into your illustrations while your studying coloring too how does that even work
@@mave_mave ouu I get that confusion. I still have a hard time sometimes. But personally, I study them one at a time at first and then try to implement what I learned from the studies while creating an artwork. Try not to overwhelm yourself and just take it one step at a time ☺️👍🏾
Thanks for all your great tips! Your study sketchbook idea is great! I would not have thought to do that at all! I think a lot of people don't think to check colleges & university websites for their curriculum due to a lack of familiarity with that world. I have an undergrad degree, so I don't find those places foreign/weird/unapproachable. I know how they work. I definitely checked for publically-available syllabi, course curriculums, and even just course descriptions/titles. Super cool of you to share with others who may feel intimidated by the elite nature of higher ed and the resources they have! Also, you are very funny, lol. Thanks again for sharing so much with us
thank you for leaving such a nice comment! Yeah, I totally understand why people are unfamiliar, I was actually surprised when I found out most of my art pals didn't know about that. I hope this video can help shine a bit of light in that area. I'm also glad you like the idea of having a study sketchbook, I hope it helps 🤗💖
You're awesome girl! I am starting painting at 33 now and I love your videos! I am excited to study more and more ! Thanks for the tips, I really appreciate this content!
Great video! I'm a self-taught artist and I go in and out of phases where I get into art and then don't because I have a full time job not in art. This video is a great reminder for refreshing even for those of us who have dabbled in art before and want to pick it up again :)
You look at art in such a healthy and intelligent way, and you explain it so well. Thank you very much for making this video, and sharing it with us! 🤗
Thank you! I understand it can be scary to start something new, but I say you shouldn’t let age hold you back from what you heart desires, wishing you best of luck 🥰
Thank you for breaking down how you study and approach everything regarding the fundamentals! I will use all of your tips as I’m a beginner artist needing structure haha ✌🏻💫
I've never though about using art school's curriculum to guide how I study art omg you just sparked the start of me living my best artist life thank you. Now I gotta go find the sketchbook I lost a billion years ago so I can keep all my progress hahahah
Your channel is underrated!! I thought you had more subscribers based in the quality of the vid alone. Looking forward to watching more of ur vids:) Thanks for making this and motivating me!!

Thank you, Neddy. This video is explained very well, and am glad you made it. This has re-motivated me to get back to my art studying. Could you please make a video about how you study the books in more detail? If you have already, could you please link it so I can watch it.

The way I learned was buying a few art books Bridgeman, Michael Hampton Andrew loomis and how to draw the marvel way.. I draw everyday including doing the timed poses which I think helped the most it definitely helped speed up my drawings
Have you done abstract paintings? I'm a retired Corrections officer and beginning my journey to decide what kind of art I want to do to keep my interest.
Hey there! sadly I haven't tried abstract painting yet, but it sounds like something fun I could dabble in one day. I recommend you try experimenting with different mediums and styles to see what you like, and you can look up artists online and take note of the type of art that attracts you, then try doing something similar. Don't feel the need to stick to one type of art, have fun and good luck on your art journey 🤗

Tip No. 1:
Don't waste 4 minutes NOT talking about tips
4 minute intro
I have a sketchbook for study, timed poses for Gestures/figure drawing and a personal sketchbook for drawing from my imagination
